Signing: The Vancouver Canucks have signed Steven Whitney to a two-year deal.

Steven Whitney - Two-year contract worth $1.8 million dollars ($700k base + $200k bonus = $900k per season).

Glad to bring in a prospect of Whitney's talents. He may be small, but his offensive potential was just too much to pass up and feel like he can be a nice sleeper in terms of having the potential to make an impact down the road.

Marek Hrivik - Chris Wagner - Stefan Noesen

Chris Terry - Justin Dowling - Marek Tvrdon

Steven Whitney - Luke Glendening - Jared Knight

Rumour Mill

small.png - Sources claim the Bruins have a substantial offer on the table to bring in some scoring help.

small.png - It seems unthinkable but Kris Letang's name keeps coming up in talks out of Buffalo.

small.png - With the Canes surplus of goalies, it looks like Ben Scrivens or Josh Harding could be on the move.

small.png - The Mile High City is buzzing with rumors that the Avs are looking at trade options as well as a few more UFAs.

small.png- With his tenure in Florida nearing 24 hours long, rumor has it Oscar Lindberg could be moved for picks.

small.png - Word out of the Big Apple is Ryan Malone may no longer fit into the teams cap structure and could be moved.

small.png - With Blake Wheeler finally locked up, look for the Sens to push for some help down the middle.

small.png - Up against the cap, the Coyotes may look at moving a high priced defenceman for some youth.

small.png - The Leafs may be looking at trading a top end player provided the return meshes well with their system.

small.png - The Canucks could be looking at moving Matt Duchene.

small.png - Despite Jets management claiming otherwise, rumors persist that Mason Raymond is available.

Florida Panthers Off-Season Review and Season Preview

The big transition period for the Panthers took place two summers ago, when GM OurTimeToShine took over a squad that was coming off of a 28th place finish, and he immediately went to work on putting his stamp on the club, acquiring core players James Neal, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Alex Burmistrov and Brandon Saad shortly after taking over the club. Very early in the season, the Panthers made more bold moves acquiring two players who lead the Panthers to this day, Selke trophy winner and team captain Jonathan Toews, and Norris Trophy Winning (11/12) defenseman Erik Karlsson. With these additions along with a few others, the Panthers vaulted up 22 places in the standings in one season, an amount that is almost unheard-of without having stockpiled multiple top-2 draft picks. The team unfortunately fell short in its first round match-up with the ultra-strong New Jersey Devils.

The club continued to improve the club the following summer, focusing greatly on improving the depth throughout the organization, adding key players Gregory Campbell, Chris Neil, Matt Martin, David Perron and Justin Schultz. With the lockout to begin the 2012-13 season, a lot of the anticipation for another improved season for the Panthers was put on hold for a few months. When the puck finally dropped for the 2013 season, it became a year to remember for the club, being in the top-3 of the league standings since puck dropped, it had felt like the club was ready to make a serious run at the CDC Fantasy Cup. The Panthers went on to win its first Presidents trophy in franchise history, and hopes were very high heading into the playoffs. The Panthers manage to conquer the Nordiques in round one, and beat the Bruins in a hard fought second round match-up. The third round proved to be another monster, up against the resident CDCGML dynasty, the Panthers met the Islanders in a much anticipated conference finals match-up. Through stellar play from Corey Crawford, Brandon Saad, Adam McQuaid and Jonathan Toews, Florida put up a big time fight, but with the loss of Gregory Campbell early in the round, and Tuukka Rask shutting the door on anything that James Neal and Matt Niskanen could throw at him, it proved to be not enough to take down an Islanders team that was filled with depth and on a mission to win it's first CDC Fantasy Cup.

Coming off by far the most successful season in the franchise's history, GM OTTS was set on continuing to improve his club for the coming season, which proved to be a tough task with the salary cap going down by nearly six million dollars with raises needing to be paid to Corey Crawford and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. A move that proved to be the toughest the GM has had to make in his 5 year CDCGML career, David Backes was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for young skilled forward Tyler Toffoli and the 20th overall selection, which turned out to be much coveted prospect Josh Morrissey. Both Josh and Tyler have a huge future ahead of them with the Panthers in this league, and it lessened the blow on the organization and its fans on losing David. The Panthers also added Jean-Gabriel Pageau with the 40th selection in the draft, a player who showed that he can already play at the NHL level with a tremendous showing in the 2013 playoffs with the Senators. Later on, came the opportunity to add Patrick Kane to the organization, a player that is in elite company in the league, and also one who has strong ties in the organization with a number of its players in Jonathan Toews, Brandon Saad, and Corey Crawford, though moving young talent was needed to get the deal done, having Patrick at a lowered salary was too good to pass up considering what he brings to the table and the ties he already had with many of the Panthers players. Cody Ceci was also acquired by the Panthers in the trade for Patrick Kane, one who the organization thinks of very highly, a big, offensive defenseman with great skating ability, Cody has a very bright future ahead of him.

Early in the free agency period, the team was thrown a big time curve ball, as GM favorite Alex Burmistrov chose to continue his development in the KHL, signing a 2 year contract with AK Bars Kazan, this created another unexpected hole in the lineup. The club immediately contacted UFA veteran center Michal Handzus to fill the void, the sides eventually came to terms on a one year contract worth $1.75M, a welcome addition to the teams center ice position, Michal brings a strong veteran presence, something that was felt the club lacked last season. Manny Malhotra was also brought in to provide leadership and depth for the organization, signing a one year deal with the club. Arguably the team's biggest UFA addition, was that of former Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun, who signed a two year contract worth two million per season, a player that the organization felt is one of the best veteran goaltenders in the league, he provided Corey Crawford with a very stable backup to lean on for advice and be able to step into the lineup when Corey runs into struggles. The rest of the Panthers off-season moves were geared toward improving the teams minors league system. Michael Chaput, Dylan DeMelo, Andy Andreoff were all added to the club through free agency, and Shane Prince, Oscar Lindberg, and Chris Brown were acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks in a prospect swap.

The Club has announced that it's NHL roster is set and will not be tinkered heading into the season, allowing for it's players to prepare for training camp and get ready to compete for jobs.

Expected Panthers 2013/14 Roster:

Line One: James Neal, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane... James and Jonathan are both entering their 3rd full seasons with the Panthers, two players who are huge threats any time they are on the ice, adding a player of Patrick's caliber to their right wing.. it has management, the coaching staff and the fans salivating at seeing these three fine young men on the ice together.

Line Two:David Perron, Charlie Coyle, Chris Stewart... Stewart has been a mainstay in a top-6 of any team that GM OTTS has managed, Chris is entering his 3rd season with the Panthers, and his 5th season under GM OTTS. After a great bounceback season Chris is expected to continue to be a huge part of the Panthers forward group. David, following a move to the Oilers earlier in the summer, is set to begin a fresh start for the ultra-skilled winger. The line will be pivoted by big, young and improving Charlie Coyle, this will be a line that should be very interesting and fun to watch this coming season, two big and skilled bodies with an ultra-skilled play-making winger!

Line Three: Brandon Saad, Michal Handzus, Tyler Toffoli... Brandon is coming off a tremendous rookie season, where he showed he can be an impact player all over the ice, along with highly touted youngster Tyler Toffoli and veteran center Michal Handzus centering the pair, should help both youngsters with their development and hopefully bring out the best in Michal.

Line Four: Matt Martin, Gregory Campbell, Chris Neil... the Panthers 4th line for the entire 2013 season, it's a line that's hell to play against, one that will get after you on the fore-check, hit you hard, while still having the ability to make plays and chip in some goals, always a very fun line to watch play.

Spare Forwards: Manny Malhotra, Jean-Gabriel Pageau... Manny provides the club with a coach like prespective, bringing a lot of experience to the table, Manny will help the club tremendously on the ice when he gets the opportunity, and off of it. Jean-Gabriel is expected to be battling for playing time throughout the year, he is a tremendous young talent that has a huge future ahead of him.

Forwards Recap: There are four new faces in the Panthers forward group this season in Patrick Kane, Michal Handzus, Tyler Toffoli and Manny Malhotra, the new additions are expected to provide a lot of skill, experience and help the team tremendously. All in all, the Panthers have four lines that have the ability to play any given shift, a great luxury for the coaching staff, the forward group should be a very fun group to watch.

Defensive Pair One: Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Erik Karlsson... Oliver and Erik are set to be the Panthers top-pair for the third consecutive season, two young Swedes that have showed they are both among the leagues elite at both ends of the ice, both players are really a treat to watch any time they are on the ice.

Defensive Pair Two: Justin Schultz, Matt Niskanen... Both entering their second seasons with the club, Justin is coming off a tremendous rookie campaign and the club will look for Justin to continue improving at both ends of the ice, Matt is a smooth skating puck moving defenseman that will provide a nice partner for Justin.

Defensive Pair Three: Mark Fraser, Adam McQuaid... Good luck playing against these two mean, physical and in your face defensemen, Mark and Adam both provide a tremendous physical presence and bring a whole lot of nasty to play against.

Spare Defenseman: David Rundblad... coming off signing a contract extension, David will be battling for ice time and we hope to see him continue to develop his defensive game, as with his insane skill-set, David should be a tremendous NHL defenseman with a little more seasoning.

Defense Recap: All 7 members of the Panthers defensive core are returning to the Panthers from last season, already knowing the system and what is expected of them, expect to see improvement from each pair.

Starting Goaltender: Corey Crawford... coming off a Jennings Trophy winning season, a Stanley Cup Championship and a lot of tremendous hockey, Corey is expected to continue his strong play throughout the season.

Backup Goaltender: Tomas Vokoun... with Corey going from backup to backup last season, the Panthers went out and made sure they had a steady #2 for Corey this season, Tomas provides just that.

Goaltending Recap: With two tremendous goaltenders, the Panthers are set in the pipes for the coming season!

Florida Panthers Captains 2013/14:

Captain - Jonathan Toews

Alternates - Erik Karlsson & Manny Malhotra (Home) Patrick Kane & Chris Stewart (Away)
