canucks#01fan
The Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday announced they have signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one-year, one-way contract worth $1 million. Gustafsson, 24, played 27 games for the Flyers in 2012-13, scoring three goals and adding five assists. He averaged more than 20 minutes per game. Gustafsson played for his native Sweden in the World Championship and had a goal and an assist in 10 games for the gold-medal winners. In 60 games over parts of three seasons with the Flyers, Gustafsson has four goals and nine assists. He was signed by the Flyers as an undrafted free agent in March 2010 after completing his collegiate career at Northern Michigan University. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=677373

Dion Phaneuf
Brock's point is although they can be over in the offseason, on day one of the actual season they have to be cap compliant. They can't actually put Pronger on LTI until after that first day, so they'd have to find someone (or multiple people) with enough cap hit they can send down to the AHL for a day to fit in Pronger then put him on LTI. We did the same when Salo was injured to start he season, putting Lack and (I think) Hodgson for a day on the day 1 roster due to their cheaper contracts at the time than some other players. We then sent Lack and Hodgson to the AHL once we'd put Salo on LTI and used the proper roster for our first game.
Baka
Even though it's 1 year that is a really good deal considering how well he played to end the season. Keep in mind though expected retaining Erik gives Philadelphia 7 defensemen. Timonen - Schenn Streit - Coburn Meszaros - Grossmann Gustafsson They could still be pushing one of Meszaros or Coburn out the door. But even so Brayden Schenn will likely start in the AHL under or over the cap because it should cut his bonuses a bit and lower his 3.1 mill cap hit. Mike Vanderhoek
Good signing, he will be a top four defenseman when it's all said and done, he has played key minutes and is very good on the powerplay. An underrated player for now but would not be surprised if he surpasses another defender at Training Camp to get into the top six to play regular. elvis15
Correct. Holmgren will simply "send down" Couturier, B. Schenn, and Laughton (if he makes the jump this year) to the AHL. He will "call up" a few AHLers on two-way deals and promptly "send them down" after he has placed Pronger on the LTIR and the "call up" the trio. I'm pretty sure that all this can happen before the Flyers play their first game as well...meaning that Couts and company can all play in Game 1 of 82.
