Hairy Kneel
Since 'the trade' and moves ever since the 2011 playoff exit, we have been floating downward, only thing keeping us from a pure free fall is the Sedin's and our goaltending. we've needed to add a top flight forward for a few years now and it doesn't look like we're getting one anytime soon. The bulk of our additions are from the waiver wire type with no influx from our farm team. Until our prospects come in to create a new 1st line in the next few years we will live and die by what the Sedin's do or don't do in the playoffs. so If the 'window' is still open we will need a ladder to get to it. Tortorella's Rant
A big fat F for Gillis. Glad someone brought up Doan and Clowe saying its not his fault they signed elsewhere. We'd be in even worse shape if we were able to sign them because that would of meant we overpaid. And the verdict has been in on the CoHo/Kass trade for quite some time now, we lost. People like to brag about these efficient signings in Richardson and Santo, and yes they have been great, the only reason we signed them was because Gillis handcuffed himself with too many NTC's he had little cap space that he had to target these players. You think if we had 20mil in space that these 2 would of got a call, hell no. Yeah, that still bothers me. If Cody doesn't want to play here then that's fine. Move him. But why Gillis moved him for Kassian is beyond me. It really seems like a desperate, last minute move before the deadline.
viking mama
Gillis gets a F because his vision for this team was/is wrong! We had a team built around speed and skill. Thanks to some injuries to our key players and a wake-up hit by Rome; the Bruins got extra motivated and took over the last 4/5 games in the 2011 finals. Gillis and Co. decided that we lost because we weren't strong or big enough, and decided to move in that direction instead of adding even more skill and speed that our core is obviously built for and made us very successful to that point. Teams feared us not because we intimidated them physically but because they played a chase game against us, forcing them to take penalties and waste more energy trying to get the puck from us Subsequently we no longer have an identity, our core is much older, and now we're the team that seems to be always chasing the puck! THIS ^ Sigh.....not making Cody happy as a Canuck was also a major failing. Although the execution of that trade was probably ill-timed. CoHo was NOT gonna re-sign with VAN in the future & malcontents don't help a team along. Only wished he had stuck around for the 2012 play-offs ....& been available to help-out until Danny was up to speed. If "ifs" & "buts" were candies & nuts....ah hell - it's hard not looking back. Not a CoHo fan any more...& yes - I'm blaming his entourage for some of the drama that derailed yet another potential op at the dream. Movin ON. hsedin33
From what I can see, the trades and pickups made by GIllis have been largely a bust or had minimal impact over the long term except for his steal in picking up Ehrhoff. (Credit to Robthehockeyguy.com for the trades list) White for Ehrhoff and Lukowich - good except that we then lost Ehrhoff later 3rd round draft pick for Higgins - Higgins is good,,,,but not top 6 3rd round draft pick for Lapierre - good grit and faceoffs, then we lost him 2nd and 3rd round draft pick for Bernier - ok, then we traded him anyways and lost picks 3rd round draft pick for Alberts - depth defenseman only - too slow and inconsistent Samuelsson and Sturm for Booth - do I need to go there Connauton and a 2nd round draft pick for Roy - another pick and prospect lost on a rental Grabner, Bernier and a 1st round draft pick for Ballard - pice de resistance.... what a waste Hodgson and Sulzer for Kassian and Gragnani - still to be determined (see David Booth trade) Mats Sundin? Average Joe
We should hire Scotty Bowman or better yet make him part owner of Vancouver Canucks.
