Calvin's Dog
I like the Stralman option too. I think Florida saves a bit of money and Vancouver could even buy out Stralman at 2.5m cap hit for two years and less than 1m(?) for two more years. I am sure there would be other pieces going to Florida, maybe back and forth, but I don't know what those would be. A less popular option would be to see if NJ would part with ... (lowers head) ... P.K. Subban for Eriksson and Baertchi. Vancouver actually gains cap space and NJ saves $$. Vancouver jettisons two unused wingers for a useable RHD who elevates in the playoffs. I think he still has fire in the belly and with Van's leadership group, I honestly think he would fit in despite all the rumours. khay
No to Dusty Brown. As for Stralman trade, we aren't getting hardly any cap saving (0.5 mil). Then, why are we losing Rafferty for? I'd say no to both. Eriksson is owed only 5 mil in real money. If we are including Rafferty or any decent prospect in a cap dump, I hope we get as little salary back as possible. kloubek
On 9/19/2020 at 2:27 PM, NewbieCanuckFan said: Stralman was more than a PP specialist though. Before his offensive numbers took a nosedive, he was a top 4 D. Probably no better than a #5 now but imho still more valuable than an older 4th line winger. Well, if we opt to let Stecher walk Stralman could fit in for that 3rd pairing right side guy. At least he is still a servicable player half of who's salary would have previously been Stechers. So we effectively add 3m cap there but lose 6m in LE's salary, who we weren't gonna play anyway. This does nothing to help our team be harder to play against, but it does ease the cap woes a bit. Ilya Mikheyev
I was about to make a thread for an Eriksson-Stralman swap. I actually think it makes sense, FLA sheds real $ and Van uses the cap space toward a position that actually needs to be filled (3rd pairing RHD). Stralman can actually still play top-pairing minutes so he may be a surprisingly good player for the Canucks - and if Tanev walks, he will b especially good insurance. I wasn't sure how likely FLA would be to move him, but Mirtle speculates he's a buyout candidate: Quote 15. Anton Stralman, Florida The Panthers need to shed payroll and Stralman, while still dependable, is overpriced. They can also afford to shed a defenseman and still have a solid top four, given the rise of MacKenzie Weegar. Existing cap hit: $5.5 million for the next two seasonsBuyout cap hit: $2.5 million for the next two seasons and $1.5 million for two seasons after that They only pay Eriksson directly 1M more than a buyout total, and they can plug him into any wing position they need to (which would cost league minimum+ anyway). Other bits: - Eriksson obviously likes $$ so in FLA he would more, a good reason to waive his NTC - Stralman was former teammates with Miller on two separate teams, maybe that familiarity would help him waive his M-NTC too - Stralman has had many deep playoff runs, incl. 2 SCF appearances, but never won a cup. IMaybe he would waive to play for a contender Anyway, I think it's a good idea 1
Whalespray
Still think Stralman is a great idea. Our right side is so weak he would easily make top 4 and his experience would be highly valuable. Doesn't clear much cap but makes way more sense to have Stralman over Eriksson.
