Ilya Mikheyev
To Las Vegas: Jack Rathbone, Winnipeg Jets' 3rd rounder 2021, cond. 4th round pick 2024 if McNabb re-signs, a 5th round pick 2024 To Vancouver: Brayden McNabb, Ivan Morozov Send down: Bowey, waive one of Dowling/Chiasson - Vegas needs to clear cap to get Eichel and Patches in the line-up in the next 3-3.5 months - They get an almost NHL-ready defenseman who will get games in this year but is waiver ineligible depth, who they can then rely on as depth in the playoffs but can clear off the books to fit their top players in - Canucks get a reliable, physical, big-bodied 3rd pairing LHD defenseman - McNabb has been Vegas' biggest PK time eater - and they had the best PK in the league last year. Clearly, the Canucks' PK this year is a laughingstock (and that's generous) - To be cap compliant, the Canucks will have to travel with one less extra player - The defense that was iced last game and will be iced next game is an embarrassment, the Canucks' need better players that can move up in this type of situation - Former teammate of Tanner Pearson, Tyler Myers - Benning may have a relationship with McCrimmon for helping him clear cap before via Nate Schmidt - Morozov is a throw-in as the Canucks' are giving up a couple future pieces. His KHL contract ends this year and he may come over at that point. He's a former teammate/sometimes linemate of Podkolzin last year - While Rathbone looks to have a high ceiling, the Canucks already have two PP QB/OFD LHD types in Hughes and OEL, and it's unlikely he will displace them anytime soon. While it's a loss, it's a manageable one - Fire Green, King and Baumer Miller - Petey - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Garland Hogs - Dickie - Podz Dowling (eventually Motte) - Lammikko - Bailey Hughes - Hamonic OEL - Myers McNabb - Poolman Hunt (can play FWD too), Burroughs (eventually Schenn) Demmer Halak Edited November 14, 2021 by Teemu Selänne
qwijibo
You can’t have a pick conditional on a player re-signing anymore

Elias Pettersson
He's a UFA in the summer so this would be a short term fix. No point in throwing away another young asset and draft pick...

It's a fair critique I'm assuming Benning wants to stop the bleeding right now and this would give them negotiating rights as well - Canucks might not have an easy time attracting UFAs this off season if things don't change. McNabb will be sought after if he makes it to the FA market
Phil_314
Those are assets that we could use (shutdown LD, young prospect C with two-way play and FO ability). If Morozov did come over and they wanted Rathbone I'd probably make that trade, and we can probably pluck a defensive depth LHD off waivers sometime, and then sign McNabb in the offseason.
