It was a difficult decision but we felt that we had to wait for GM @Gator to retire as he has secured the next 3 Stanley Cups. His outside of the box thinking is simply too much to compete with. We will turn our attention to winning in 2027 and we will ride off into the sunset with our heads held high in 2030. 2

Popular Post Mike Vanderhoek
FRIENDLY REMINDER TO OUR MEMBERS: Hey guys, so a week into free agency and a need to remind everyone here this is a game, its supposed to be a challenge, fun, and a part of a group of 30+ people here. There is NO rule or scenario where anyone here should expect a player that is an unrestricted free agent or a pending unrestricted free agent will sign with their team. It doesn't exist, its not written in stone and to expect off the bat that this is the case will lead you to disappointment. NO agent here is obligated or fulfilling their duties to ensure a team is happy or a GM feels heard during this process. Players will sign without notice to teams, some will engage in much back and forth, a front runner or assumed front runner is only just that. If you don't get a reply that is free agency. If you feel you were the number one destination and missed on a player or if you felt that all seven of your pending UFAs should have resigned but didn't then listen carefully. Pull up your socks, try again. There is a team of volunteers helping move this game forward and they do not have to put in THEIR TIME in but they do, and during free agency that can be a lot of time. You are allowed to be upset or mad that you didn't sign a player or thought the price was too high, maybe you felt ignored. Be bothered, then move on. You can always reach out to any member here to discuss, chat, or inquire about thins 110%. There is no GM here getting preferential treatment, no old boys club and nobody is personally going out of their way to slight someone or raise someone and being here since day one I will just flat out say the suggestion is extremely insulting and is pure crap. Agents discuss their offers, they stack up offers they receive and use many variables including Player Relations, role, fit, salary, term, contract clause, age, etc to find the best deal. Sometimes sure, maybe three clubs could all have been good fits, only one can sign the player. They being your fellow GMs and members here are fully cognizant that some tough decisions have to be made and some members may be mad at them or react poorly, they feel like crap when they are called out or given scathing PMs for not signing a player to a specific team and yet have tough enough skin to get back into it and keep helping the game move forward. I don't understand why this process has to be a negative to some here, I missed on all my primary Free Agent targets this offseason, didn't get a reply on a couple either. You just keep researching and putting the time in and trying to find players that you like. Being aggressive in researching, scouting and subsequently offering on different players sounds more constructive and enjoyable a process then putting that time into writing PMs or complaining passive aggressively here or on discord about what you did not get. Because I can assure being a long time agent I know these guys are fully aware team A is upset and team B is finger pointing, they are just helping move this game along and bring fun to it. Just remember, its a game. Thank you. 1 5

Gator
I will say I have been 1 of those GMs frustrated with the agents in my first couple of seasons. So I can definitely see where the frustration comes from in that regard... But when you actually sit back and put yourselves in their shoes I'm sure you'll see they're doing the best they can to make everyone happy.. Trust me I have probably annoyed every single agent there is over my 3 year tenure. I'm probably the last team they'd "rig" it for lol. And if you do feel shafted let them know, and explain why.. I do, and as long as your not a raging loon about it I'm sure they'll give you a solid explanation why they decided to go the other way. I got a bit upset over 1 guy I missed out on this offseason, but the agent gave me a solid explanation for it and I moved on. I know coming from a team that signed 5+ UFAs it might may seem a bit bias, but honestly the agents system has been better this year than years past imo. The real issue seems to be on lack of interest in signing guys, or lack of interest in entering a bidding war. If you're at an auction and only 4 people are bidding, items are going to go cheap, and to those same 4 people over and over again.

Mike Vanderhoek
DISCORD: There are some members here not on discord and not wanting that avenue of communication, fair enough. However I would recommend using discord when in this league to keep up on real time discussion, real time trade talk and in general keeping up with the group. If you have chosen not to use the discord option that is fine, but anyone wanting to join simply PM myself and I will send you an invite to join the group. Thank guys.
Gator
Ben Hutton 1yr $1m available for free. We are happy to keep him for playoff depth, but because he's a great kid (30 or not, he's still a kid) and we feel he deserves what we can't give him. An NHL spot. we want to send him to a team with the roster spot available on their NHL squad. *insert Ben Hutton wink GIF* Why would CDC not have that 1? Gator
Can we loan out Ben Hutton? Like allow a team to use him but not allow them to store in their system and flip if he becomes a mainstay? Cuz ya know... It'd be cool if you could Anyone wanting Hutton for free must sell me on the idea he has a spot on your main roster. You need to sell me like I'm his agent! Gator
That is a picture of my very first GML trade where I acquired Sidney Crosby. We then flipped Crosby a little bit later and that was the kickstart of our rebuild. Lets take a look at how that trade affected us today. After working out a trade tree this is the results we came up with. We have acquired a lot of solid pieces for our future. We definitely gave up the most pieces, but feel happy with the quality we have got back over the 3 years stemming from that one deal. On paper it may look like we lost a lot for what we gave up, but we bring in guys we feel will all play a huge part in our success over the next several seasons. Here is a look at the trade tree... Popular Post Canuck Surfer
On 7/8/2023 at 10:17 AM, Canuck Surfer said: Edmonton GM Canuck Surfer spoke late Thursday night! ''I'll have to keep this brief fella's,'' 'It's been a really good off season so far. Hopefully it finishes great!'' So far this off season; * We have added Brandon Carlo, a 250 to 350 point 2knd pair defender. * Added two excellent forwards. 'Rugged' is how I would describe William Carrier, 'Tenascious' Nick Carrier * Anticipate the return to action of lottery forward Oliver Wahlstrom. * Have a roster spot for one of the wrlds top prospects Simon Edvinsson. * Have numerous other good prospects including Nolan Foote & Ville Heinola that also look poised to make an impact. * Were a 1st place team last year, want to be a contender this. * Hopefully have not lost anyone of significance? Old Newsbeat jumped up on her high chair horse; WAIT ! My old keyboard just jammed when I was typing announcing my transition BC Sports Hall of Fame induction reply. I need to zoom out and buy a new laptop. My thumbnails got stuck on all the exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This sounds like my last report. And I have to flutter my skirt! ''You said not lost anyone of significance?'' What about Patrick Frickin Kane you moron Surfer! We are going to have a party Saturday night. An announcement one way or the other. We don't usually talk about negotiations ongoing. ''What I can tell you is this!'' * Its been tough * Even on Patrick > he seems to have fired his agent? * Maybe he's just been getting some extra help. * We are down to the wire and still in on it * Working hard for our fans & team But regardless Patrick has been a great player for Edmonton. We'd like to invite everybody Saturday night down to the Rexall West Edmonton Wave pool. Free surfing, submarine rides and a chance for fans to honor Patrick Kane; Dublin Drops & Irish Car Bombs, shot glasses & all for anyone who shows up! Oii; we woke up late. Yes partly drowning in sorrow. I was actually at the police station for obvious reasons. And I'll need to respond, fighting my inner ''Brian Burke!'' On 7/8/2023 at 11:44 AM, Relyt Krets said: SIGNING: The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Patrick Kane to a three year deal - Patrick Kane - 3 years x $31,500,000 ($10,500,000 AAV) - Deal includes a NMC in years 1/2 and a NTC in year 3 -------------------------- Before start any real festivities, which have had to be postponed till next week. And require some issues to be settled, some time for our community to heal? Some things get discussed. I'll let our Captain Sid Crosby speak! I brought my gold medal, to remind myself of times past & goals. I'd like to remind Edmonton fans this is our goal. Not a gold medal, a Stanley Cup. I have spoken to our admin, team & of course Surfer before and after Patrick decided to take his talents elsewhere. Also Patrick, which was why I encouraged CS not to pursue Patrick this summer. I know Surfer was just doing what he thought kept great talent; which Patrick was. And he tried hard to sign Patrick Kane! We have to stay grounded. Patrick wasn't trouble in the room. But he was not there either. Who brings 57 points to a contract year; then holds his team randsome? It's troubling to me because I wanted Patrick to be our friend. To be a winner, to back check. To play defense. It seems he did not care? Wants the party life, to hang out where the towers & poles are biggest for him to climb, ride. Golden showers in the back of taxi cabs with Evander Kane to the new ''Great Canadian Casino'' North of the airport where they get free sponsorship. They'll be ambassadors for Ontario Lottery & Gaming corp. I heard? It's more troubling to me because it's Toronto! I cannot believe anyone would sign a contract with Crabby. Who had to have his claws clipped, a new ID to hide his unsavory past. Who personally lied and jerked me, Sidney Crosby, around when I waived to come to Toronto. Made my first chance to play at home in Canada a dissapointment. Made it so ugly I had to agree to leave! I am happy to now have my home in Edmonton! Hopefully those others? All who signed contracts for less than their value in Toronto! Realize, its Evander & Patrick Kane Crabby pandered to. ''I won't say more!'' Surfer returned to the podium. Thanks Sid, and our apologies! Of course the violence and riots that happened last night were unwarranted. We want to appeal for calm. We condemn those who hung life size effigies of commissioner Buttman. Burned those of Patrick, his agents Sergei & RelyT! Burned police cars & claimed collusion on Wayne Gretzky drive. People who showed up at my residence, tried to break in & asked why we were not serious in Edmonton? Turned over cars, burned garbage in the park across the street. People's behaviour is disappointing sometimes! I repeat a third call for calm. Patrick, he has right to sign where he chooses, negotiate how he wants to negotiate. Yes we tendered offers that were consistent with other MVP's who came to market in recent years. Yes, we even tendered an offer with higher AAV than Sid Crosby, than he signed for with Toronto. We just did not offer the same term. His agent never engaged in-between aside from saying, as they all do, he wanted to be in Edmonton. Wanted more money than we were offering. No counter proposals, no dialogue, substance. Four months after we contacted Patrick a new super agent surfaced; saying he had a deal in place he wanted us to deal with. There had to be to and fro? Because that offer was barely 1/2 demands from us. It was less annual AAV than we had on the table. And it was make or break. So I have to report to Edmonton fans that IMO Patrick did not want to be here. Or maybe he did deserve it, term and big dollars were offered! Maybe we just got out GM'd? We are going to be transparent because our fans are upset. We had dollars that honored his MVP past, but only 1 year to cover risk as he was also a 57 point forward at 34. That will be their cross to bear in Toronto. We did what we felt was best for our team, are sorry Patrick has moved on. So Brian Burke Surfer added; lets honor Patrick as suggested. But have fun with the fact we 'tot it were fishy!' Lets have a Flounder festival at the surf wave rider at the Rexall West Edmonton mall. Free pre-season game tickets to anyone who gets ''Screeched In!'' Wish Patrick luck, that the wind be in his sails! Free tickets to any kids dressed as a Flake, or Flatfish! Free fish N Chups to anyone who can throw a Codfish at the dunk tank bulls eye! We invite @Sergei Bobrovsky to sit in the tank. We will also donate $5000 per bullseye to a charity of Patrick's choice. $10,000 for commissioner @Mike Vanderhoek. Please, no codfish on the ice every time Patrick comes back to town. Fish & chips will be half price at our vendor food sales! We will monitor & install security screens for people with Crabs at all Rexall Gate entries. Return tickets to Toronto a consideration the best fan in a crab suit costume! Bronx Jeers welcome! And three slaps wit a codfish fer Patrick!

I am expected to miss half of the season. As much as I love Edmonton, they just didn't have the same belief in me as Toronto showed, and it truly shows in the deal. Oh, and as for the 57pts..
