Meanwhile every year the canucks try to get the 8th spot in playoffs only to lose in R1

Detroit is no further in their development/rebuild than Vancouver, actually their quite a bit behind and they are building through the draft. Unfortunately for them there top picks havent exactly projected well. Draft picks are no guarantee with anyone even with Bedard.

No one tries to get to 8th spot but would be happy if thats where they ended up when the season ended as they still have the opportunity to play playoff games.

I get the frustration with past management teams/front office but none of that past BS is on them. Theyve said what they wanted to do and are doing what they said they would. Theres no surprises. We arent mortgaging the future for quick fixes, we havent abandoned our farm team/system. The future for the first time in 8 years looks to be promising but there is lots of work to do. Lets see what happens over the next 1-2 years if PA and JR can build this team into a contender.

Would be a similar situation as last year with Lekkermaki (same with Kemell), where an almost unanimous top 10 rated pick fell to 15 due to stature and position played. They are hard to pass on as they are BPA but for the Canucks who are bursting at the seem with top 6 wingers, you have to wonder if they are forced to make a hard decision and pass in favour of a potential center seeing as they took the safe bet last year.

I feel like management gets approached if Benson is on the board at 11 to potentially trade down. I wouldnt go past 14 but depends on who is available. If we can get a late 1st or early 2nd to move down a few spots and still get one of our guys, im thinking it has to be done.

Hard pass on Benson despite what he brings to the table. Canucks should only be focusing on C and D this draft. Reinbacher, ASP, Dvorsky, Moore, etc

Its good when you have a wise GM who knows when it is a good idea to tank on purpose. DET were near the playoffs iirc and just blew it up.

I think Yzerman saw the schedule and realized it wasnt happening this year for his team. Proactive GM's are much better than reactionary ones especially the patient ones like Stevie Y

Michkov at 8 is bold, but I understand the logic.  If Michkov is available to Montreal, I don't see how they pass that up.  They have the 17th pick as well to land a solid prospect.  And if Montreal skips, the same goes for Arizona.  I'd take the chance, especially if I had another top 20 pick in this years draft.

I think with Montreal and Arizona, they arent looking to continue rebuilding for the next 3-4 years and thats likely how long it take for Michkov to get to the league. I think after next season both teams will be pushing for the playoffs and likely become playoff contenders the year after that. I could see San Jose or Chicago picking him up but I think they are more in need of high ceiling centers. Washington will likely begin its rebuild in 2024 and they have enough assets to trade for a ton of draft picks and prospects - Michkov would be thier new Ovechkin.

  5. This year's draft seems different than years past. It seems that every team in the league 1-32 is going to have a shot a potential impact player as I have been impressed with a lot of these prospects over the last few weeks. I'm hoping we can package Rathbone, McDonaugh and some others that likely wont get a shot with the big club anytime soon and our 3rd and 4th round picks this year to move into the mid to late 2nd round. If PA can work some Burkie magic and make a few trades to move into the 1st and 2nd rounds we could see our prospect cupboard become respectable again.

Now onto the rankings...i effin give up. 1 week I want to move Moore up, next its Wood and Barlow is dropping, then the following week Barlow and Perrault are showcasing themselves as top 10 potential picks and Benson falls a few spots. Safe to say we're likely getting a good one and every draft list leading to the draft is going to bust.

I'd like to put a list down but i have 16 guys that could all realistically go top 10.

Here's a lame attempt at the list nonetheless (mock draft style)

    Anaheim - Bedard

    Columbus - Fantilli

    Chicago - Calsson

    San Jose - Will Smith

    Montreal - Reinbacher

    Arizona -  Leonard

    Philadelphia - Benson

    Washington - Michkov

    Detroit - Moore

    St. Louis - Barlow

    Vancouver - Sandin-Pellika

    Ottawa - Wood

    Buffalo - Sale

    Pittsburgh - Dvorsky

    Nashville - Danielson

    Calgary - Yager

    Montreal - Honzek

  6. Trade Myers Sept 15 to cap floor team for 3rd round pick in 2024

Trade Garland in the offseason to Pitts for 2 3rds in 2024/2025

Trade Beauvillier at the deadline to highest bidder for a 2nd and 3rd in 2024/2025

    Sign Mayfield 3years/14 million

    Sign Graves 6years/32 million

    Re-sign Hronek 6 years/40 million

    Resign Burroughs 2 years/1.9 million

    Let Bear, Dermott Walk

Bring up Hoglander, Podkolzin, and Karlsson

Resign Hirose, Hoglander, and Kravtsov to show me contracts whilst we still have control

Draft: Anyone at this point, rankings all over the place but Reinbacher and ASP are preferred and will come in as Mayfield's contract expires.

    Kuzmenko Pettersson Hoglander (Scoring Line)

    Mikhayev Miller Boeser (Scoring Line)

Joshua Aman Podkolzin (Match up Line)

    PDG Karlsson Kravtsov (Energry Line)

Hughes Hronek (24-26 min TOI) (Offensive pair)

Graves Mayfield (22 min TOI) (Shutdown pair)

OEL Burroughs (12-14 min TOI) (dont fk it up pair)

    Demko

    Delia

    Myers contract replaced with Graves

    Garland contract replaced with Mayfield

I dont see Pearson and Poolman returning.

Ferland is off the books this year I believe, along with Luongo recapture penalty but correct me if im wrong.

Buyout OEL in 2024 and allocate money to Petey. Replace with Hirose

Eventually Kravtsov or PDG get replaced by Raty to play 3c whilst Aman goes back down to 4c and Karlsson moves to the wing. I expect a big year from both Aman and Joshua.

Best of Brock will be 65 pts. He has yet to even put up 60...

After the trade deadline, he had a really good month in march where he put up 14 pts in 15 games. He tailed off in April where he put up 3 pts in 7 games to end the year. I feel he could have put up more. He had some great chances and set up his teammates on a few really good chances.

At the end of the day, that's 17 pts in 22 games which is 0.77 pts/game or 63 game pt pace.

This is the stretch where Brock himself felt he was playing much better. So how bad was the rest of the season when he was grieving the loss of his dad?

Well, actually pretty similar as his season avg is 0.74 pts / game or 61 pt pace

Also we are talking "on pace". Brock has never played a full season as he is often injured. As a result, I feel confident when I say a really good number for him is 65 pts. That's shattering his previous best by 9 pts.

    Is that worth 6.7?

    Debatable...

If he was a physical power forward that can hit and play a strong 2 way game, then yes.  6.7 is worth it.

Is it worth it for a one dimensional forward who has decent size but isn't physical?

Brock's likeability factor always clouds my judgment

Combination of his good personality, timing (arriving when team was devoid of talent and putting up great numbers in rookie and sophomore year). and great work of his agent had produced earnings that far exceeds his play.

He should really be making AB or Connor Garland money but at 6.7m, you have to wonder whether we can have a player replace Brock and have similar production for much less money (Garland, Hogs, AB) OR we spend a bit more and upgrade at that position to roll 2 really strong top 2 lines while we shed capspace by trading Boeser, Garland and AB (16m) and Myers (6m)

    Kuz Petey Mik

    Hogz Miller UFA (8m)

    Kravy UFA (4.5m) Podz

    Joshua Aman PDG

    Hughes UFA (7M)

    OEL Hronek

    Brisbois Burroughs

    Demko

Probably need to upgrade at 3rd pairing D and move one of Brisbois or Burroughs to 7D.

Brock would have to be a reliable 2 way player that puts up 67 pts to be worth it.

He's yet to do that in his life and as a result, the current contract he is on is not looking too great.

I dont agree that he has to hit but youre right on the money with his two way play. Whilst hes an average two way player, in order for his contract to provide value he needs to have a strong two way game whilst putting up 25G and 60-70 points. At those numbers he would be well worth his contact.

I think if we are able to move Garland and Myers at the deadline and Beauvillier at the deadline we will in be a decent position to pick up a stay at home RHD to play alongside Hughes on the top pair and a big body LHD to play with Hronek. Hirose spends 1 year in the AHL until we can buyout OEL. Id be going hard after both Graves and Mayfield this offseason. In 2024 we could potentially ice the following team but still think we need a top 6 RHS winger to play on the top line (maybe someone from this years draft if we dont get a defenseman):

    Kuzmenko Petey ????

    Hoglander Miller Boeser

    Mikhayev Raty Podkolzin

    PDG Aman Joshua

    Hughes Mayfield

    Graves Hronek

    Hirose  Burroughs

Yes, clearly! Whens your next hockey 101 class? Would love to learn how you shit on a “.74” ppg player who cant, shoot, skate, or play defense according to you - especially with such ease and nothing to back it up. Its quite graceful at times, almost like an alcoholic marry poppins.

thank you for the compliment. @Alflives and I are the same, fans of this team, glass half full, enjoying life kind of guys win or lose. God cut him from a very special cloth. Thought it was lost for all eternity and then god found it and cut me from it too. What exactly is the point.

Kucherov or Shea Theodore, i think you if you take the D, you dont run...you walk away slowly constantly looking back and thinking to yourself "damn did i eff this up"

    Michkov AINEC in my opinion.

yes, it was an issue.  all the scouting pointed out that it was an issue.  the guy has zero motor, he lacks footspeed, and the fact that hes going to be 26 years old and his skating has regressed is a glaring red flag.

hes a stationery player that has relied on his shot which has been non existent for almost 3 years.  you cant have players like that in your top 6 and expect to win anything.

so no shot, no skating, no compete level yet manages to produce at a .78 ppg clip throughout his career despite the argument hes regressed every season since his rookie campaign. Please help make it make sense.

no money, no job, no hardwork...and im more and more broke every year, can i still become wealthy?

Thats my hope. It's always so frustrating because we have seen when Brock get's fired up he's a completely different player. Though most of the time he's just going through the motions.

I think we downplay the back injury and the death of his father and the affect it had on him mentally and physically. Losing a loved one, let alone your father/coach, is something that cant be expected to go away after 1 season. Here's hoping for a resurgent year this coming season.

Exactly!   He is "a Shooter"  end of story - plain & simple. All he is - All he ever will be.  It's in his DNA!

He can't skate, is slow, makes terrible passes, never carries the puck into the "o" zone - rather always dumps it in like L.E. always did, is soft, never checks, doesn't play well in the " D" Zone", mishandles the puck very often, has low hockey I.Q., doesn't back check, would never fight and would likely fold up like a house of cards in a rough Playoff game.   Not sure if I missed anything but we all know him well by now after 5 years of promise after promise.  BB6 was unfortunately damaged beyond repair after that brutal hit a few years back and never recovered to what he could of/should have become.    I'll believe his improvement - when I see it as he makes the same commitment to improve every year!

Hope he can do it this year - but I highly doubt it and he should be considered trade-chip #1 this summer.  We could do a whole lot more with the cap room he takes up.

Way to pile it on. Seems you just listed everything you could that could be formed into coherent sentences using your limited vocabulary. He's an average skater, has above average vision and passing ability, engages into board battles with his stick more than his body but still engages, his 200 ft game has improved quite a bit since his rookie year, average to above average hockey IQ, and more than half the guys on the current roster wouldnt be fighting so thats a ridiculous argument. In the bubble playoff he was 5th in team scoring behind Miller, Hughes, Petey and Horvat with 11 points in 17 games. He produces at just under a .80 ppg clip since he came into the NHL and was on pace for 60 points in a full season despite having an obvious off year as seen with the eye test.

Take it easy mi hermano, youre trying to paint an ugly ass picture when it isnt warranted.

I'm not glancing over it. It's terrible and I feel for him. He's a great human being and great team mate. But we've been making excuses for him going on 5 years now.

He's a finess guy, it's not his style, he doesn't have to engage physically, he's not floating he's finding open ice, on and on.

At some point spade is a spade.

Love Brock desperately wan't him to evolve though.

Is Brock a guy who's gonna step up in the playoffs? Lord I hope so 6.65m is a lot of dough.

I'm very sorry for your loss Deb.

you do realize him evolving from magikarp means he turns into gyrados right? Cancuks win the cup if he turns into gyrados lol

If he was making $4 million I bet there'd be very little said about him. Other than his footspeed.

He really needs to make a commitment to improving his skating in the offseason. Get into camp the best shape of his career and see what happens.

When he came into the league, his foot speed wasnt really an issue. Most felt it needed to be improved but I dont feel it was something that was holding him back. I think the lack of off-season training coupled with the personal issues and injuries he dealt with left him as a shell of his former self. I fully agree that next season, we see the old Boeser and have high hopes of him hitting 30 maybe even 35 goals.

Exactly why I hope he has a good tourney and goes in the top 10. You never know with Yzerman

Just read the final NHL Scouting central final rankings. Matthew Wood has jumped to 4th among NA skaters only behind Bedard, Fantili and Smith and ahead of Benson. Came as a little surprise but truthfully didnt know much about him up until an hour or so ago. Big kid, great hands, excellent shot and definitely has the IQ to be a regular NHL'r. Concerns are his mobility/skating and two way ability. Safe to say, despite being a winger, he just jumped into my top 5 (based on having the 11th OA). Would be ecstatic with any of the 5-6 guy below. Just wish we had an extra mid 1st to draft Sam Honzek somehow.

    Moore

    Wood

    Sandin-Pellika

    Danielson/Leonard

  17. Bedard eventually ends up in Vancouver at some point in his career a la John Tavares. We should be hoping for the 2nd OA pick to draft Fanitli so we can have both the 1OA and 2nd OA a few years down the road LMAO. Lord Stanley, nice to meet you, give me a hug!

    7 years down the road

is their actually a possibility Cristall goes in the top 10 ? Hopefully he has a good showing at upcoming U18”s

Cristall seems 1 dimensional to me. I personally have him on my DND along with Yager and Heidt. I would prefer Moore, Wood, Dvorsky, Sale, Danielson and Barlow all ahead of those 3. Yager may be the only one able to play himself off that list.

Waiver exemption may be part of it but I think Conner Garland will be moved to make room for Hoglander.

Hoglander is 5 years younger; can fill basically the same roll on the team and also save the team ~ 3.5 to 4 mil in Cap space.Just my opinion of course but I think that is how it will play out this summer

Couldnt agree more. I see Hoglander playing a very similar game to Garlands which makes Garland expendable.  Trade Beau, Garland, Myers (15m in cap savings).
