Wetcoaster
Frank Luba of the Vancouver Province with a report from this morning's OV press conference. Members of Occupy Vancouver who spoke at a press conference Monday refused to answer questions about what will happen at 2 pm, when residents of the art gallery grounds have been ordered by an injunction to move out. A march will also be held at noon but that is unlikely to be the last act of the 'OV' movement, who say they will continue to hold daily General Assembly meetings as the move into what they called Phase Two of their action. But they intend to continue direct action to bring attention to their cause of highlighting the plight of the 99 per cent. Among the actions could be temporary occupations of the SkyTrain, shopping malls and coffee shops. by Frank Luba via email edited by Erik Rolfsen 10:58 AM Tweet by David Carrigg - Print/web assignment editor at The Province: @DavidCarrigg Dave #occupyvancouver Word protesters are going to occupy skytrain 1 hour ago via web Yup, that should really get the 99% on side, eh? Wetcoaster
Tents coming down at the VAG following the press conference. The dismantling of Occupy Vancouver's encampment at the art gallery has started. At 11 a.m., roughly three hours ahead of a court-sanctioned camp shut down, occupiers began to pull tents toward the front of the gallery steps. Others broke apart wooden pallets, used as tent stands, and threw them into the back of a moving-truck parked at the southeast corner of the site. Gone already were the Elders tent, most of the library, a canopy in front the kitchen and one of the larger framed domes, formerly located along the western side of the camp. Earlier in the day at the first aid station, camp medic Triage Jones (Triage is her middle name), said she's prepared for whatever happens today. "Our [medics'] job is one of the most important ... it's a support role," she said, getting out of her chair to get cough syrup for a visitor. "We don't know 100 per cent what's going to happen." Jones said the first aid station isn't entirely packed yet, but "jump kits" are ready to go in case of emergencies during the eviction. Jones' own jump kit includes a respirator, bandanas, vinegar, vitamin c, goggles, bandages and latex gloves. "Let's go," someone yelled from near the centre of the camp, attempting to rouse occupiers. "We've got work to do." Jones said she hopes that the first aid station remains standing by the end of the day, but she didn't expect it to be. A volunteer in the camp kitchen smeared peanut butter on sliced buns, stuffing them into a large plastic bag. At 10 a.m. occupiers hosted a press conference next to the ice rink at Robson Square. With a large contingent of media in attendance, David Beattie, Eric Hamilton-Smith, and Suresh Fernando, recapped the occupation and explained what could come next for the occupation in the long-term, though they sidestepped questions about may transpire today at 2 p.m. and where occupiers may go. "The future is bright, and we're excited," said Fernando. With the camp gone, the movement will shift to "external occupations," he said, suggesting SkyTrains, malls, coffee shops, and other public spaces could be possible targets for "roving occupations." The general assembly — the decision making forum which happens every night at 7 p.m. at the art gallery — will continue. The movement will continue to take direct action to draw attention to financial interference in politics, environmental damage, corporate irresponsibility, homelessness and other social issues, Fernando said. Hamilton-Smith said the site has filled a gap in social service provision in Vancouver, serving over a hundred meals a day, providing shelter and round the clock basic health care for around 30 otherwise homeless people, as well social justice education and community-building. "Occupy Vancouver is a non-violent movement," Hamilton-Smith emphasized, when asked if the eviction could get turbulent, but added that "people are free to act as they please." At the general assembly meeting Sunday evening, occupiers decided to create a secret committee that would reveal the new location at the very last minute to avoid preventive action by the city. http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Protesters+begin+dismantling+Occupy+Vancouver+tent+city/5741759/story.html#ixzz1eNAvFx2U

aGENT
Do they have specific issues particular to each said corporation/business, or do you paint them all with the same broad brush and protest for the sake of protesting?
Wetcoaster
It is being reported that police are on duty at SkyTrain stations checking tickets before allowing anyone to proceed to the fare zone areas. If OV protesters want to enter and remain I guess the will need to buy a ticket every 90 minutes.

Wetcoaster
So what's that going to accomplish, other than to be a public nuisance to that 99%?

DonLever
Most of the tents are coming down. Organized labour have given the protestors storage space for their tents and have provided moving vans. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/bc-politics/union-body-gives-occupy-vancouver-storage-space/article2243719/?utm_medium=Feeds%3A%20RSS%2FAtom&utm_source=Home&utm_content=2243719 So this protest is organized to some extent, contrary to popular belief. These are not nutcases as protrayed on the media.
