People, the BIG BOYS will be the BIG BOYS in the playoffs.....San Jose, Detroit, Vancouver and Chicago are the BIG BOYS and unless something crazy happens, these 4 are the true elite in the West.
Young pretenders like the Preds, Blues, LA etc.....They will learn very quickly that that PLAYOFFS are no regular season....The BIG BOYS will treat them seriously. To say teams like the Blues or the Preds are contenders is kind of a disrespect to the traditional power houses like Detroit, San Jose etc...

hmmm... let's see...

take first place in west = we're in the playoffs
take second place in west = we're in the playoffs

seems like order of finish is less important than being healthy and at the top of our game going into the playoffs. right now we're only healthy.

I really hate it when the media acts like they are oracles about what's going to happen to the Canucks.

Early in the season, they were declaring there was no way Vancouver could win the President's Trophy because they would never be able to match their run from last season. Really, you turkeys? They've done it for 3 straight years so why the hell couldn't they? There was a loss to the Red Wings a while ago that was supposed to make it "incredibly difficult to catch Detroit". Morons.

The Canucks have been stuck in neutral for a few weeks but that should change as they see the playoffs on the horizon. Once they stop making all the stupid mistakes they are now and shift into the next gear, all this crap about them being in danger of going out in the first round or being unable to catch St. Louis will be yet another stupid statement spewed out by the half-wit media in this city.

true dat.
what people here don't realize is that nobody is scared of the canucks, especially when lu is in net.
they know that their keeper will have stopped more pucks than lu by the end of the game.

Agreed,
We do definitely have a chance to catch them, I'm sure they will slow down a bit in the last 10 games or so.

We just need a nice little 5 or 6 game win streak to right the ship! Easy peezy!

But STL is a good team, very big, fairly skilled, dynamic defenceman, hot goaltending..

Whenever you have Datsyuk AND Zetterberg you have a scary team. Those 2 guys can wina series by themselves. Detroit is scary but I don't think St. Louis is very scary we seemed to handle them pretty well the last game we played them.

By your logic, Luongo should have lost every single game this season.

San Jose isn't even in the top 8.

San Jose isn't even in the top 8.

That's exactly what I am talking about though....they are not in the top 8 NOW, but you know they will be there once the playoffs starts. For teams like San Joese, Detroit, Vancouver and Hawks, what happened in the regular season does not matter. Conversely, for teams like the Preds, Blues, Kings, regular seaons mean EVERYTHING to them becuase once the playoff starts, the BIG BOYS will school them in 5 or 6 games. Please don't give respect to teams like the Blues or Preds like respect is free. Let's wait until the end of playoffs and see how many games these so call good teams in the regular season last.....

Here's St. Louis's schedule for the remainder of the season:

Anaheim Ducks (away)
LA Kings (away)
Phoenix Coyotes (away)
Nashville Predators (home)
Chicago Blackhawks (away)
Columbus Blue Jackets (home)
Detroit Red Wings (home)
Phoenix Coyotes (home)
Dallas Stars (away)

Here's Vancouver's remaining games (keep in mind we have 2 games in hand on St. Louis and 6 points behind):

Minnesota Wild (away)
Chicago Blackhawks (away)
Dallas Stars (away)
Colorado Avalanche (away)
LA Kings (home)
Colorado Avalanche (home)
Dallas Stars (home)
Calgary Flames (home)
Anaheim Ducks (home)
Calgary Flames (away)
Edmonton Oilers (home)

Should be a close one. As long as we win those 2 games in hand, we are in a good position to challenge for that #1 spot. St. Louis does have the tougher opponents down the road because it's in the toughest division in the league. I think we have a shot at being #1 if St. Louis gets complacent after having clenched the playoffs last night.

May I suggest that the Canucks want to reduce the chance they play a game 7 round 4 home game, and so are putting on the breaks in order to allow the top eastern team to be ahead in points?

It could happen, with our idiot fans from last year and the moron brigade that came out to be morons: i wouldn't doubt the team wants to be behind the Easts best team simply in case we play them in the finals.

I may not be a fan of Hitchcock's style, but it gets results. There will be a lot of questions in the post-season, but right now you'd have to look at giving him coach of the year.

Hitch knows defense wins cups.
