Florida Panthers news and notes

Resurgence of Corey

The organization has been thrilled with the bounceback of starting goalie Corey Crawford. After a very up and down season in 2011-12, Corey took the time from the lockout and worked hard on his game throughout the summer and it has showed - he has been the backbone of the team to start the season and showed everyone why we were so confident and stuck with him through his struggles.

Defensive woes

Aside from the stellar play of top-pairing Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Erik Karlsson as well as solid contributions from rookie Justin Schultz, the rest of the Panthers blueline have struggled to start the year. Tyler Myers has struggled and has saw his ice time dip to the 16 minute range the past few games, Adam McQuaid has missed time, Dmitri Orlov seems to be a ways away from returning, along with Mike Lundin, and it seems like Stu Bickel has struggled to get more than 5 minuets of ice as of late. Thus rumor has it that the Panthers are exploring options to add to their defensive core.

Emergence of Brandon Saad

Though the youngster has yet to record a point, he has been playing with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, and has not looked out of place at all, his ability to protect the puck and create space has been invaluable to his line's and team's success. We are sure he will get over this slump as he has been all over the ice and creating chances, once he buries one, we are sure many more are to come.

MSG NEWS 2013:

Waive Goodbye : The Rangers system was dealt a blow earlier this week as Colorado's GM, Nuxrule420, made good use of the waiver wire and snagged recent signings Chad Johnson and Mike Santorelli. Primal Optimist had this to say, "We put a lot of work into signing Mike Santorelli because we believe in him as a hockey player, unfortunately he couldn't secure a full time roster spot and we had to send him down. It was hoped that the prohibitive length of recently signed Chad Johnson, would have protected him through the waiver process that we knew he would face repeatedly as the emergency callup guy in our system. It is a real shame to lose either of them but this process is meant to help both the teams and the players who are involved in the waiver system."

Overcompensation in Net: As if on que, the Rangers were pleased to see 30 goaltending points last night as Mike Smith returned to form and completed a shut out performance at the same time as Steve Mason secured his first win for the GML Rangers. We don't know what the speech in the locker room was exactly from coach John Tortorella, but it is safe to assume we couldn't print it here anyway. Congrats to Mike and Steve on their well timed victories, which clearly help make up for the loss of emergency call up Chad Johnson to waivers earlier in the week.

Should mention for the newer GM's that we sim'd a season on xbox day by day waiting for the lockout to end, and that is what C2X is posting about now...decided to follow it throught he playoffs for fun..the sim included all of our rosters from this fantasy league and was going to determine our real season if there was no hockey this year. Okay, all caught up.
