Does Burke know what a quality goaltender is anymore?

71 posts in this topic

He won a Stanley Cup walking into Job that had Con-Smyth winning Goalie in Giguere and had a young Bryzgalov in the wings to push him...and then he brought him back to Toronto were he was like a fine glass of two week old milk, not horrible but obviously bad. With us he brought in Cloutier who just didn't have the mental game to take a team deep and proved that

His Gustavsson signing wasn't the worst, but the team could have handled his transition from Sweden to the NHL a little better

Other than that he just keeps going through what ever goalie is in the Leafs system and failing (Pogge Reimer etc)

I must admit i do kinda miss Danny boy

Yes, Burke knows whats a quality goalie. He has one stanley cup ring, one more than you'll ever have. He is a gm, a profession you will never have a chance of being. Quit questioning a professional, they are called professionals for a reason

Is this for real guys? Burke has been in the business for SO LONG, he probably knows more than all of us combined. Sure he might be saying that he's comfortable moving forward with Reimer/Scrivens, but that is all mind games. We all know he needs Luongo. He's not gonna come out and say, "Hell yea we are getting Luongo". You guys need to understand that both GM's want the best for their team, and sometimes, it takes a while for two GM's to come to an equal offer. This IS a big deal involving a quality player, it won't happen so fast. Burke knows what he is getting in Luongo.

I see that a lot of people here are talking about how Mike has an upper hand. well he might, but you need to realize that keeping both goalies till December can cause issues between cory and loungo.

Simmer down folks. So what if MG hasn't dealt Luongo on YOUR timetable. You should be happy he's holding out for the best possible return for this hockey club.

Rumours of Florida only getting serious after the draft (which ended yesterday) should tell you MG has plenty of negotiating to do yet.

he's covering his tracks in case his lowball offers were the last ones he makes because Florida swoops in and offers a reasonable, timely deal. His claim that he is not going to "stripmine" his team is classic Burke hyperbole.

MG is over his head....it's a good thing however but sooner or later he (Luongo) has to go (before October).

So wind bag Burke comes out and says Gillis is asking for 15 first round draft picks for for Bobby Lu. If they can get between 1 and 15 then something may happen, but he will not over pay.

Yet, in the Schenn trade he states in order to get a quality player you need to give up a quality player.

Seriously WTF does he think Bobby Lu is, some chump that is only going to play 20 games for him or pretty much the only guy that can get his joke of a team anywhere close to making the play-offs?

Burke should be happy Gillis is entertaining any Leaf coming back. My hope is Lu goes to Winnipeg and gets them into the play-offs and blowfish Burke gets canned next year.

Burke idea of quality goaltenders duing his Toronto stint

Gerber, Joseph,Pogge, Toskala, Giguere, MacDonald, Gustavsson, Reimer.

In Vancouver he had

Hirsh, Weekes, Potvin, Schwab, Snow, Cloutier, Essensa, Auld,Skrudra, Hedberg

Not a list of goalies that really stand out at being elite. So to question his idea of quality, I believe the point has just been made. Even thou I do not have a stanley Cup ring.

It seems a lot of people love to bash Bobby Lou but as soon as it comes time to trade him all of a sudden he's the best goalie in the world.
