Israel launches airstrikes in Syria violating international law; May be planning more

Report: IAF strike in Syria hit Iranian Guards

Iraqi paper quotes source as saying alleged Israeli strike caused heavy casualties among Iranian Guards stationed at Syrian facility.

Iraqi daily Azzaman quoted a Western diplomatic source as saying Thursday that the alleged Israeli attack on Syria reported on Wednesday caused heavy casualties among special Iranian Guards stationed at the Syrian facility. The source also said that the attack took place more than 48 hours before it was reported, eventually being leaked by Israel.

The source for the story, who was interviewed by the paper in London, said that the report about a strike on a convoy to Lebanon was probably meant to divert attention away from the main objective of the operation, which used F-16 aircraft to fire at least eight guided missiles at the facility.....

Israel hits Syria arms convoy going to Lebanon

Israeli planes bombed a convoy near Syria's border with Lebanon, sources told Reuters, apparently targeting weapons destined for Hezbollah in what some called a warning to Damascus not to arm the Lebanese enemy.

Syrian state television accused Israel of bombing a military research centre at Jamraya, between Damascus and the nearby border, but Syrian rebels disputed that, saying their forces had attacked the site. No source spoke of a second Israeli strike.

The raid followed warnings from Israel that it was ready to act to prevent the revolt against President Bashar al-Assad leading to Syria's chemical weapons and modern rockets reaching either his Hezbollah allies or his Islamist enemies.

We live in a global lawless society. There is no "international law" that applies to Israel or any other country with it's hand in a majority of pies.

"Law" applies only to those without the political or economic clout to deter prosecution.

And what the US needs to do in this situation...is back the **** off. This isn't our problem, keep us the hell out of it. Israel is big enough to take care of itself now...they don't need anyone holding their hand. If they piss off Syria and Iran and get annihilated, so be it.

But you are aware that United States is going to stick their nose into this right? There's no way they are backing off. If they do bakc off Israel is pretty much done. Even if Syria rightfully retaliates and or defend themselves, they will alter the story that, their air fighters were shot down in their air space or something. Which then the United States will side with their story and attack Syria, Or Iran. It's a crap hole situation right now.

If the US wants to get involved, let them put John "Prisoner of War Hero" McCain and Linsday "Have I Pee'd My Pants Yet" Graham into an old bomber and send them into the abyss ..

Weren't people clamouring for the international community to do something about Syria? Now Israel decides to do a little (albeit for their own purpose as well) and now people are complaining that the uprising is a domestic issue, thus no outside interference is required.

oh yeah the "genocide". the ignorance of the syrian war is extreme

by most estimates after 2 years of war 40-60k have died. Of those 1/3 were syrian soldiers, 1/3 were armed rebel combatants, and 1/3 were civilians. Of those civilians a large numbers in the majorities were "pro government civilians" directly targeted by the same terrorists in direct suicide car bombings, mass killings, executions in allawite/christians/druze neighbourhoods.

The most succesfull rebel group Jabhat al-nusra 10 000+ strong has been designated even by the US as terrorists. they are already imposing violent sharia in conquered terrritory

Tens of thousands of parasite jihadi's (exact same ones US was fighting in iraq/afghanistan) have poured into syria seeking jihad and an "islamic state" Their numbers have swelled by local syrians because syria itself is a major source of islamic extremists (a large number of al qaeda insurgents in iraq were from syria)

The syrian government has large numbers of supporters. almost universal support among allawites, christians, druze and significant numbers of liberal/secular sunni's. The kurds are neutral but hate the rebels more. The rebels are predominantly made up of conservative sunnis/EXtremist al qaeda linked militants.

Personally speaking, because i have personally followed the syrian civil war from day one detail by detail. I started out strongly cheering for what i thought were democracy seekers. Undoubtly assad has opponents (he has supporters too). But that phase is loooooooooooooooooong gone. Anyone with even remote knowledge of that conflict knows that.

At this point, i am cheering on assad to eradicate the the Jihadi's, Al nusra brigade, and all their allies to the last man. the syrian people just want this conflict to stop and get on with their lives. No real syrian citizen has any interest in endless conflict, blowing up their own houses, neighbourhoods, universities, churches, mosques, infastructure, electrical grids to achieve a supposed political goal. Only hearltess jihadi animals engage in this behaviour.

But dont let a dose of reality ever distract you (general israeli apologists) from ever trying to immidiatly change a subject and take focus away from your wrongdoings. Like grossly violating any international law known to humanbeings and blatantly attacking sovereign states and crying why they become radicalized afterwards.

If only there were some political means for Assad to stop all this...oh yeah, just call an election. When the protests broke out, he decided to use military force. This militirized the population. The country has been infiltrated by islamists, but the biggest component of the rebels remains former soldiers in the Syrian army.

The truth of the mattter is that Syria has lost control over large parts of its country. There is no police or even organized government in many parts. It's now become a hub for smuggling weapons from Iran. Nothing will come of this strike by Israel, becuase everyone knows exactly what is going on.

now it's just getting embarassing. Please man do everyone a favour, and do 10 minutes of research before posting strong opinions.

you really think that salafi sunni extremist (the ideology that gave birth to al qaeda, taliban, and just about every other al qaeda linked terrorist group) can be negotiated with? you think al nusra brigade can be negotiated with?

the west has tried every incentive to unite the so called "rebels" into a semi cohesive barely tolerable fighting unit. They tried every incentive like paying them salaries, promising them weapons, and internationally recognizing them.

"the syrian national council" was the first attempt. the "syrian national coalition" was the second attempt. All has failed misreably because the actual fighters doing the fighint are jihadi's hell bent on islamic states. They just mock the western "hotel warriors" sitting in 5 star turkish hotels, besides western diplomats in suits, and telling a jihadi engaged in street fights what to do. They are literally laughing at these people.

what you propose is unrealistic and has been ttried to death,

the rebels are not a united entity to negotiate with. assad has tried negotiating with the moderate elements, but the extremist elements that call the shots will never allow it.

There is a reason why syria (iran's number one ally) is all but being ignored by the west, except token occaisional media condemnations.

As russia said " the west quietly is praying we veto their un security council votes"

the 2 realistic options that remain for syria are:

1. a secular socially mild dictator who has widespread support of virtually all minortiies and secular syrians.

2. A fanatical jihadi uprising spearheadd by the most vile, disgusting animals known to mankind. they have vowed to wipe syria clean of all alawites and are already doing exactly that in conquered territory.

no other fantasy scenario of people holding hands, singing kumbaya and rejoicing at "democracy" will come out of this. That is reality my friend.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that syria is far far far faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr better off under dr. assad, then the unimaginable alternative

lets stop distracting from the actual subject of the post please. Blatant israeli aggression

I am very much aware. I said that's what they NEED to do. Israel is not our problem...and it's time we let them fight their own battles.

who cares?? hmmm the syrian nation perhaps? having gangs of armed men running around with no centralized command and mass looting all over the place is not a desirable scenario. (daily syrian life)

You are absolutely correct. Assad has the power to stop this by using brute force the smash the jihadi's into oblivion, and protect the syrian people from these vile animals.
