:towel:

Exactly. If he's willing to correct mistakes that's a good thing.

Torres for a 4th or 5th rounder? That's an easy trade. Those picks can be re-acquired.

Raffi was a great 3rd liner.

Also a one time 5th overall pick. There is some skill behind his game; maybe not a FT promotion to 2knd line, but a pretty adequate depth guy who can step up. When Chara was manhandling the Twins, I always thought we should have sent Torres in fore-checking for them...

My god, the last thing we need is more 3rd liners...

Torres would be great for our 4th or even 3rd line right now. We lack depth and Torres can be decent offensively while dishing out those big hits. Sure he has a few 'incidents' but when you play with an edge you are bound to get that. He had a solid 30 point season (with 7 in the playoffs) when he played for us. Everyone loved what he brought, and at this point he is an upgrade from players like Weise, Ebbett, Sestitio, Pinizzotto, etc.

Definitely need more than him to make a good run at the cup this year though.

And I never heard about the rumours regarding him and Higgins, hopefully it isn't true and we can get him but definitely rather keep Higgins than replace him with Torres ---- if that is the case.

it's funny how people here only seem to remember the energy level, momentum changing hits, and the odd timely goal that raffi brought to the table, and not the 20 game stretches of utter invisibility that came in between or the brutal penalties that came with his reckless style and lazy defensive play.

raffi torres sucked as a canuck and bringing him back would be laughable.

But some games we need to release the Kraken on some guys for cheapshoting the Sedins

I never got the sense that Torres was anything like the Kraken. I can't say that I recall him ever instigating a fight and the only time he did drop the gloves was when he wasn't given a choice by some guy from the other team.

The year he was here, he led the team in penalty minutes, with 78.

G.

People are honestly arguing that Raffi isn't an upgrade on guys like Weise, Sestito, Pinizzotto, Gordon, Sweatt and whomever else slides in on that 4th line?

Now that my friend, is laughable.

True thing that it seemed he had the invisibility cloak on sometimes, but as a rental he's an upgrade on Weise, Sestito or Pinnizzotto as far as 4th line LW goes, no?

You need a guy like Torres who can be a playoff performer. Sure he won't score, but he will do what any 3rd/4th liner would do, but with heart.

Torres > Weise, Sestito, Pinner

Therefore, even with a healthy line-up Torres is an upgrade.

Upgrading is how you win.

Therefore, trading for Torres would help the Canucks win.

Plus, everyone knows him and he has past chemistry with Lapierre & Hansen.

Clowe > Torres > Weise, Sestito, PinnerClowe please!!!!!

When you factor in cap hit and what we'd have to trade to get him, maybe he isn't an upgrade. Weise is better defensively, Sestito fights more, Pinizzotto can play center, Gordon and Sweatt are AHL depth, etc. Would Torres be happy being in the AHL as depth, or useful on the PK, or be willing to fight more? Those guys all make ~$600K or less (Sweatt makes $900 before bonuses) where Torres makes $1.75M - twice as much as any of the others you mentioned.

A better question would be is he an upgrade on Higgins, Hansen and Lapierre, all players who also make less than him? I still say no considering price and potential cost to acquire.

I was one to scoff at this thought, but Torres is a great 3rd / 4th liner and we could use much more of that kind of skill/grit/hitting ferocity on that.
Plays well with Lapierre, and would be nice with Hansen too.
thats one awesome 4th line
Higgins - Roy - Kassian, good third line?

Pinozotto+Ebbet+Alberts for Torres. Then trade for Clowe

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Jensen - Kesler - Burrows
Clowe - Higgins - Hansen
Torres - Lappiere - Weise

Then we pull a Boston and grind the hell out of every team we face lol.

I like it. But it's bad asset management, imho, to trade for a guy we could've just kept if we wanted him.

I really hope that freakshow Torres returns...

His Nashville celebration was ridiculous. Ridiculously beastly.

Can't believe people don't want Raffi back.

You want more energy and hard hitting in this team, but you don't want the players that are willing to do it?

You want Gillis to be a better GM, but you're calling him an idiot for being willing to admit and fix a mistake he made?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. You people just want to complain.

Who said it was a mistake? It was only a mistake in that he didn't replace him with someone who would not figure in Shanahans every waking thought but instead would do what Torres does but stay legal. Ott maybe.

Chris Higgins' brother (who leaked contract information) also stated that there is/was no feud between Chris and Raffi and that he had had lunch with Chris and Raffi in Vancouver a few times; that Raffi is a fantastic guy.

I know some people had some concern about some rumored "feud". Maybe he doesn't get along with someone in the room but who knows.

I still think with his grinding play and big hits he was the biggest loss of the offseason after those playoffs. Teams that go deep need players like him.

What it would take to get Torres back would be better spent elsewhere. Don't worry about upgrading on Weise. He's an okay 4th liner and replacing him with Torres is IMO not much of an upgrade at all. Main thing is to even have Weise back on the ice. He has his moments too. Besides, do we need another one to attract attention and draw useless / unnecessary penalties or even suspensions?
