King Heffy
Seeing Calgary get this guy makes me real happy we have Green. Peters is a dinosaur who loves throwing his goalie under the bus. This reminds me so much of when Gillis hired Torts.
sedinsassassins
Why couldn't the Hurricanes just fire Peters? Why let him choose to resign or not?

sedinsassassins
So if they fire Peters, they have to pay him but if he resigns then they don't have to pay him?

It's like a job. If you've worked at a company for four years and your company decides to fire you, they have to pay for your severance which includes the amount of years you've worked for them. If you resign/quit, company doesn't have to pay you anything. Same concept here. Bill Peters had one more year left on his contract and by firing him, the Hurricanes would have to pay him that year on top of a new head coach. Since Peters resigned, his contract is no longer valid on the Hurricanes payroll freeing up some cash to hire a new head coach. Also, Peters might have resigned as he probably wanted a fresh start somewhere with a team that has the potential and can make the playoffs as opposed to biding his time in Carolina and hoping for a playoff spot next year. Coconuts
I understand why Peters would jump at another job but this strikes me as a hasty move by the Flames.

He had an out clause as coach in his contract. 8 hours ago, Apple Juice said: It's like a job. If you've worked at a company for four years and your company decides to fire you, they have to pay for your severance And having another opportunity he exercised the clause. It felt like Carolina was happy he took it. Otherwise these contracts, unlike the NFL, have a tendency to be fully guaranteed. Which is the market. If the market is offering guaranteed contracts, coaches will take them. And teams will feel obligated? Or they may not get a coach... Its more interesting when a fired coach gets offered a new job. Such as AV when he was offered a job in New York. While under contract & owed $10 mill by the Canucks. The Canucks still had him under contract and had to pay him. But they also don't have to ''give permission'' to other teams to talk or hire him. He's ''under contract.'' So then partial or complete releases get negotiated to allow the new team access. I recall reading somewhere the Canucks just paid a portion of AV's NYR salary? And same with Columbus & Tortorfella...
