  1. Stole this reddit for all the naysayers. This is a great trade. Situation: Listen, y'all have got it all wrong. Yes Tampa is cap strapped, but J.T. Miller is a very valuable player. Tampa absolutely wasn't lacking to find a trading partner for Miller, and they certainly didn't have to lower his price tag to trade him. Multiple teams would have been into Miller, and they would have bid each other up. If you wanted the Canucks to put Tampa to the screws, the Canucks would have ended up with Killorn or Tyler Johnson for a cheap asset cost. They were never getting Gourde or Miller for a cheap asset cost because Tampa would have had multiple trading partner options. Tampa being cap strapped is the reason he's even available at all. Overview: J.T. Miller is about as close to a Swiss Army Knife as you can get. He's good at every aspect of hockey, and fills a massive need at the perfect age. You want a comparable? Look no further than his new linemate, Bo Horvat. Yes, Bo Horvat is still improving while Miller may not be, but J.T. Miller plays a similar style of game and they're going to be a fantastic duo. Edit: Another comparable would be T.J. Oshie. Offense: Miller is a VERY good offensive player. Until last season, he had increasing point totals in every year. (23, 43, 56, 58). Then last year, he was buried in an incredibly deep Tampa team and pushed to third line duties. We'll get more into why later. Even on a third line role, Miller managed to put up 47 points. Coming into Vancouver, he definitely makes a return to the top 6, and likely returns to a 55-60 point level. That puts him in conversation to be potentially the Canucks second highest scoring forward by the way. Defense: J.T. Miller is a very good two way winger. He battles well along the boards, he bangs with his body, and he backchecks well. Remember when I said I'd talk about why he was a 3rd liner on TB? It wasn't because of a lack of offense, it was because he was one of their best checking players. For only the second time in his career, he started more in the defensive zone than the offensive zone last season. What did he do there? Oh just set a new personal high in CF%, no bigs. Conclusion: J.T. Miller is a fantastic pick up, and at 26, will be a top 6 forward lock for the next 6-7 years. He comes cost controlled, and looks to be a natural fit with Bo for years to come. At a very fair price of a second-half 1st and a 3rd, this is a fantastic deal.
  2. I'm severely disappointed. Not in the pick, I think Polkolzin is going to be an impact player, but in the lack of a trade.
  3. Burns, Doughty, Letang, etc... Are Franchise d-men Generational - Karlsson (best of his gen) Franchise Doughty, Letang(Someone you build around) Elite - Guys who will bolster your team and make an impact
  4. For everyone saying no Tyson Barrie needs to be reminded that he had more points than everyone on Vancouver except Horvat, Boeser, and Pettersson.
  5. JB kind of lost the Gudbranson trade, but so did Florida, Vey didnt pan out. He's never been fleeced though, usually solid trades that benefited the team. Baertschi Granlund Pearson And IDC what is said, JB won the Pouliot trade by a mile.
  6. Thats two rumours involving a dman coming our way and the 10th out. Also 3rd rumour that has said Canucks have a deal they are announcing at the draft.
  7. He didnt draft Yakupov, but there were so many warning signs with Bouchard. He's lazy and doesn't have high hockey IQ
  8. This, and Jordie Benn is a major dick, can confirm on multiple occasions.
  9. True, he has really done a number on that team. 1st(Barzal)2nd Eberle Strome for Gagner Hall for Larsson Inked a back up like a low end starter for decent term. Signed Lucic to a crippling contract Drafting and development has been mediocre. He has done some major damage there
  10. Only problem is... Nobody is going to cap dump a 74 point winger
  11. Wasnt sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but there's a bit of proof. My mom knows his dad pretty well, and Barrie truly would like to play for the Canucks. That being said I kind of put it out of context, he has a lot of friends in Denver and loves playing there
  12. I've met Barrie, and played with him in a tournie. He said then, he would love to play in Van.
  13. I mean... Barrie and the 4th would allow us to take a centre better than Horvat... The value is there, but the intangibles say its not a fair trade. I think Colorado doesn't realizes what Horvat means to this organization.
  14. You know, he's still reliable... If Barrie is available and within a decent price range, why not? Im sure he'd like to play close to home. He comes back here every summer.
  15. A lot of people are not going to like Quinn Hughes if they have a problem with one-dimensional players. I think Quinn is going to struggle against the Andersens, Wilsons, and the Reaves type
  16. If you dont think Edler, who wears an A, hasn't mentored anyone who has come up through the system, you're high. Tanev Stetcher Corrado while he was here... Just to name a few.
  17. Yup, it was an easy call. LA had no right to terminate that contract.
  18. Virtanen Horvat Boeser Roussel Tryamkin and Schenn*hopefully return* Those are tough players to play against Or are you mad that he drafted the soft swede over Glass?
  19. Canucks were 2 picks from trading for Subban when Columbus took PLD
