Caufield is the same age and tearing up the league…

    Whats the argument?

Is he tearing the league up?

I mean hes been impressive dont get me wrong. But he hasn't played a full season yet, he hasn't even hit 50 pts and hes already had brutal shoulder injuries and surgery.

His contract would scare me TBH If he was a knack and we signed that deal.

I like betting on talent but lets not talk about Caufield like hes a sure thing super star here.

    IT is still projection.

Boeser at a similar time in his career we projected safely and it hasn't gone that way.

Caufield could very well have a similar experience. And shoulder injuries have a way of coming back. And when hes the size he is I wouldn't feel som confident in his long term durability.

    Just my opinion.

What gives me the willies pun intended. Is there is no body of work. He had a good U18 playing 2nd pair behind the ASP show. But beyond that. Really really meh. Up until this season he'd done pretty much nothing. Nil points in 12 J20 Nat games rocking a -10 and a further nil in 5 J18 Nat games prior to this season. This season sure a bit better 29pts in 45 with a +11 but J20 Nat is still a solid step down from say the OHL. I guess what I'm saying is man oh man I reaaaaaaly hope they've done their homework on him if they pick him because prior to this year I don't think anyone anywhere had him in their top 250 for this draft class.

Id say he has a large body of work for being a very strong defender in shutting down players and clogging up the neutral zone.

What hes did this year is really showcase how much his game has grown, how strong of a skater he is and that he is working on his puck skills and offensive game and has committed to a path to develop this side of his game best.

Watching him defend reminds me of Tanev too.

Like if Tanev was a better skater and had actual offensive upside.

He literally clogs up the zone making zone entries look almost impossible around him. And hes got wheels for puck retrievals too. He has all the markers to me of an all around modern mobile top 4 RHD.

    Which really excites me.

Interesting take on Halford and Brough this morning, not sure how knowledgable Chris Faber is but he was saying that Barlow is so pro ready he could push for a spot next year. Interesting....

And on the same show, Linden was on. They mentioned he doesn't like talking about the reason for his exit from the Canucks in depth, that he has preferred to be diplomatic. They also said, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't probe. Linden basically ended up saying the reason he left was due to a difference is what the team needed to do, and that he had a more long term view and 'others within the organization didn't share the same view, that they wanted to retool on the fly.

So there you have it, finally out, Linden wanted to tear it down, and Acqua man didn't and benning listened to his boss. Sad.

That was the report for a long time since it even happened.

    https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/courier-archive/news/the-rehabilitation-of-trevor-lindens-reputation-has-begun-3080228

He wanted to rebuild properly and stockpile young assets. JB sold Aquaman what he wanted to hear that he was 1-2 moves away form a rebuild and that he was a draft wizard and didn't  need more draft picks.

He still has never gotten into the details or ever said anything negative about anyone. That was the most hes ever said about it but it did just confirm what we all knew already.

So it wasn't really anything new as much as they tried!

Farber was on Halford and Brough this am and said Barlow is a player who could push for a spot in the NHL next year. Not sure how knowledgeable Farber is so take it for what its worth.

Faber had some draft takes I did not agree with at all so I dont know take it with a grain of salt. But I do think Barlow is closer to NHL ready than a lot of players just due to physical maturity and an NHL Shot

Good point about Hronek, they needed to make a trade to bring in a Top 4D. Petey, Hughes, Demko want to start winning now.

I wonder which player (that would be available at #11) would be ready for the team (NHL) in 1 year? 2024/25 season

    Barlow

    Wood

    Danielson

    Sale

    Honzek

    ?

Could the Canucks be targeting a player that will make an impact sooner rather than later?

I think Barlow and Danielson will be closest to NHL ready.

Wood needs solid time at C and time to get stronger, and improve his skating.

Honzek needs time to learn C if thats what he is going to play too. And I think he just needs time or hes going to be an Aman type if rushed, imo

Sale I dont think he is physically strong enough to endure an NHL season and I think the pace would overwhelm him. IT would ruin him imo.

Barlow situationally could make the jump but I dont know he and Danielson I think are most NHL ready but they are in awkward spots where going back to the CHL wont be amazingly beneficial but they still could improve themselves there.

I believe due to ND age and seasons played he can make the jump to AHL after 1 more season? (I am not sure about this I am terrible with the CHL rules if someone can confirm?)

It would be an ideal path for ND to play in JR one more year but be traded to a better team and have an absolute monster season, world JR and a playoff push. Then make the jump to the AHL and have a season there and be ready to push for a roster spot right after.

Barlow has lots more to work on. But with his physical maturity and his shot he could make a team. What's best for him I dont know I am hes one of the scarier picks for me.

I do not think we will target a player based on NHL readiness.  At least I hope not I want the best playerrrrr

Simashev is the guy I love. I just wish he would build his confidence a little more on the offensive side more, cuz he can seriously walk the line and control the the offensive when given the chance but his team just does not want to use him there

Im curious if he will be  a Russian willing to play in the AHL and get PP time.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with Benson at 11 - would prefer him to ASP and probably even Perreault, as far as smaller guys go. But there are other guys I'm hoping will be there. My current top 15: 1. Bedard 2. Carlsson 3. Fantilli 4. Michkov 5. Smith 6. Sale 7. Dvorsky 8. Leonard 9. Gulyayev 10. Reinbacher 11. But 12. Danielson 13. Simashev 14. Benson 15. Barlow

Can't exactly remember my last list I posted, but my only real changes lately are Michkov falls to 4 - I've always said I will do my list strictly based on hockey and upside, not geopolitics, but with listed weights ranging from 148-161, Michkov missing the combine now has significant hockey implications. And the other main change is Sale has jumped past Dvorsky, for basically the reasons @hammertime has levied against Dvorsky - while his shooting/goal-scoring and his passing/playmaking are upper echelon, his skating and puck skills are well below elite. Still love him for the combination of the super high floor and at least some chance at elite upside, but the more I watch of Sale the more I get strong Lucas Raymond vibes - a winger playing underweight for pro, with elite offensive skill and a highly mature, responsible two-way game. Sale is certainly a step down from Raymond in terms of both offensive skill and defensive acumen, but the difference between 5'10 and 6'2 frames goes a long way towards balancing them out.

But anyway, back to the point of this post, I've been putting a lot of time into my top 75 as I'm going to miss the CDCML draft and so will need to submit a list prior to the draft. And it occurred to me, if I remove But and Simashev from my list, Benson lands nicely at 11th overall, so while I can say I would prefer Sale or Danielson, I couldn't possibly be dissapointed with Benson going in the range I have him listed.

Ya its hard to be upset with Benson at 11. But like yourself I have seeds of doubt that he could be the BPA or best fit for us too.

I am impressed on your openness and that @hammertime influenced your view on Dvorsky.

My Top 20 Tiers right now are:

    Bedard

    -

    Fantilli / Carlsson / Smith / Michkov

    -

    Leonard / Dvorsky / Willander / Danielson

    -

    Reinbacher / Wood / Simashev / Benson

    -

    Moore / ASP / Sale / Barlow

    -

    Stenberg / But / Yager

I've honestly drank the KOOLAID for Willander's play, interviews, path I just think he and Simashev are going to be the best dmen out the draft. Followed by Reinbacher and Bonk.

I cant wait to see what Willander does in the NCAA and hes going to get the opportunity to really develop his offensive game. I also love the green line rivalry he will get against the BIG US Program Line: Perreault-Smith-Leonard

And I am pretty happy comfortable taking any player from my tiers in our draft range:

    Leonard / Dvorsky / Willander / Danielson

    -

    Reinbacher / Wood / Simashev / Benson

We are getting a great player.

I might tweak my tiers as I really like all of these 8 players and I have had a hard time ranking them. I want all of them..

I am disappointed hes an Oilers fan being a local boy but for him cant tell it doesn't matter where he gets drafted.

Was cool to see he actually compares himself to Point and Marner good awareness. And he does just want to get stronger and stronger. He isn't SLOW, and he is a good skater. Hes just not a burner. Perhaps if he adds power to his lower body the speed will improve?

Thanks for posting this - super helpful.

According to this, the average (recent) rankings of the players the Canucks spent extra time with at the combine were:

    Benson (6.6)

    Barlow (15.83)

    Danielson (18.83)

    Wood (19.92)

    Willander (26.42)

While each of these prospects have appeared in the top 10 of at least one ranking, the average ranking amongst this group is about 17.

Are we looking seriously at trading down? Or does this reflect who we expect to be there at 11?

For those that follow the draft more closely, does this tip their hand at where they are planning to pick?

The public lists are very different from the team lists lets just say that. And Bob Macs list will help illustrate this I think.

The hardest of passes. I've heard the Mantha for Boeser discussion, but that just seems like a huge drop in quality for minor cap relief.

As for Kuz.... I don't even want us SNIFFING around him.

    hehe

I have zero interest in Kuz and agree on Mantha with that cap gain all we get is a little size bump, just a little bump.

Benson might be able to muscle gaudreau off the puck. But maybe not. The local small boy experiment has never worked. Ronning was acquired after he’d proven himself. How many times has Tochett said the team needs size and grit  benson :picard:

At least he’s got a little grit and some size. It also address’s a positional need. Benson doesn’t check off any of those 3 needs.

I mean we live in a world where caufields knock Tyler Myers off pucks in the corner so who knows

There’s a reason why top 6 powerforwards are so rare. Podkolzin is unlikely to develop to that level.

Caufield was always a safe bet to put up points, same with Benson. Can’t afford to take another bottom 6 forward with a top 10-11 pick.

It took Bert like 8 years to arrive to, the rare PWF can also take more nurturing / development time to fully land.

At least podz has shown flashes, and from what players, coaches media say about this he is a very hard working, driven player with high expectations for himself.

I still believe in podz. not to be a tkachuk but to be an impactful PWF.

I do agree tthough that is a high pressure pick that will have heaps of options and we cannot afford a miss.

I see a lot of Brayden Point in him - a known playoff performer...

Point is a burner though but I do see the comp with him and Marner kinda a cross between.

hes my most polarizing prospect as I’m super high on him but I do have a seed of doubt

if we pick him I’ll be very excited and support it 100% but if we passed on him I’d fully understand as well going to give our team trust on this call

willander is a wildcard Has played 2 games in the swedish SHL against man and is getting lots of hype, but those who really do a deep dive on him realize the areas of weaknesses. It's like always: some people see the light and others can't see the light.

He didn’t actually play though it was either a paper transaction or just to show him around the club.

since he was an NCAA commit there’s a rule that kept him from playing minutes with them

I see a lot of Cody Glass in Danielson. Don’t think he posses the offensive qualities necessary to justify picking him at 11. I’d much rather go after Willander, Wood, or Moore, assuming Benson, Leonard and Reinbacher are gone.

I’m liking Willander more and more. He has the size, skating, defensive ability, and most importantly the snarl and physicality.

I feel like he could be the Seider of this draft.

Hughes, Willander, Pettersson is a good start to building our backend. Considering Buffalo needs a right handed defenseman for Power, I highly doubt he goes past 13th at this point, so I’d much rather just draft Willander with the 11th than to trade down.

Cody Glass skating was nothing like Danielson’s though. He had an awkward stride   And Danielson is a burner who has beautiful crossovers and can accelerate from a stand still / turnover incredibly quick. Glass couldn’t ever do that and it’s a huge difference so much so that Bedard took notice of it when they played against eachother.

and the quality of team they played on was drastically different.

Outside of league, size, handedness and position I don’t see the comp. i wasn’t high on Glss either like I am ND

I know you like to shake the boat and be controversial on here but a 25 year old (that’s how old he’ll be in two weeks) who’s demanded two trades, has a career high of 63 points, has shown to quit on a team and is demanding 9 million dollars a year is definitely not a headcase you want on the team.

Sometimes less is more. Addition by subtraction. He’s like the 5th best player on that team and hes acting like he’s a superstar LOOOL. Imagine if Boeser acted like him.

Perron is a polarizing player though. I do agree. But like Button he and Pronmon always have some non public concuss outlier picks and sometimes it makes them look genius and sometimes it makes them look silly.
