  1. 10th overall 1984. Drafted an injured RHD who was slated to be a top defensive producer in the nhl due to his skill but injuries plagued him and he never played more than single season over 70 games or reached his potential. Just saying
  2. The question is not about finding them. it is about the cap space. Will we be able to maintain things while needing to either promote or replace people at those positions? Is $3-$4 million enough? How much more will players command with this increase? The big issue isn't this off season, IMO it is next year.
  3. Well, when he PLAYS in a Canucks uniform then we will be able to put pen to paper. Until then this trade is literally no different than this memorable 10th overall draft pick from the mid 80s. But again, and this is important. he is injured. He has been injured essentially by reports for about a month ish prior to his trade with the same lingering issue. he played 4 whole games for Vancouver recording a single point. Averaged out his start in vancouver is/was comparable to Luke Schenn's production in vancouver for the year. yes he will produce more than Schenn but you get what i am saying. Until he shows up; is not injured and can prove that he is what he was labeled as he is an unknown and the team and fans HAVE to be a shade more realistic about things regarding him. I dunno mate. Being worried about trading for or drafting a player with lingering issues should always give fans a reason to pump the brakes. See Nolan Patrick draft v trade
  4. I have seen him play. I also have not seen him play since he essentially spent a month off and on the IR due to "upper body injury issues" prior to his being traded to Vancouver where he was shut down after 4 games due to "an upper body injury issue" So I will again reiterate. Come back to me when he has actually played a season in a Canucks uniform before claiming he is the best RHD to play for this team since Bieksa
  5. Let me know when Hronek shows up to camp, isn't injured and plays a season while being defensively responsible. people labelling him as possibly the BEST RHD this club has had since Bieksa are absolutely out to lunch. Until he produces we currently have done nothing except on paper to fix the RHD issue. It also doesn't really change much as we still need an RHD with a defensive mind to support QH and that won't be cheap unless Schenn wants to come back. Hirose is even more of a question mark than Hronek but won't want $7+ million in a year so that's something. We did. Once. Good trade no complaints. Beauvillier is actually worth keeping. Myers will need a replacement, that won't be cheap and will be fought among no less than 16 other NHL teams wanting a top 4 RHD. Petey getting a new contract, Hronek getting a new contract, replacing Myers, still needing a 3rd line RHC, needing to replace AB on the wing, Podkolzin getting a new contract, bear getting a new contract, it won't be easy. Now that can be taken from the existing team/minors possibly. But that's a very slim possibility. Between here and the start of the 24/25 season there will need to be new contracts for or replacements the following if they will still be on the roster to start 24/25: Pettersson, Kuzmenko, Beauvillier, Podkolzin, Aman, Kravstov, Dakota, Stdnicka, Dries, Myers, Hronek, Bear, Burroughs, Delia. Keeping in mind that Hronek is looking at almost doubling his contract, Pettersson will get about $3 million more and some of these players could potentially double their existing contracts as well. To end 23/24 or start 24/25 we have 9 players under contract with $33.5 million spent on the cap and need the following after Myers etc is gone. 1 back up goalie 1 top 2/4 RHD 1 4-6 RHD 1 4-6 LHD 1 3rd line center 6 wingers 4th line center Again, it won't be easy. It may change, it may get easier but until such time as we see something actually happen I will remain pessimistic because that is a huge volume of assets to move renew or replace while still holding on to some level of cap space knowing that players will be commanding more $ than ever and that stars like Petey will hold all the advantages in renewing new contracts with a significant increase.
  6. Let's just be brutally clear here. This is an issue that has plagued this club for over a decade and is in no way shape or form going to end all of a sudden. Just because the cap goes up, does not mean teams will want our magic beans and dull toys. Just because the cap goes up does not mean we will magically be able tor evamp a blue line. A cap increase in fact right now is scary with petterssons new contract coming. it also means all UFA's will want more and depending if Hronek is healthy and can produce he also will want more. If Hronek shows up for 66 games and manages 40 ish points he'll ask for $7.8 million minimum. While we are potentially well positioned now with this potential news. NOTHING is confirmed and we are in fact in cap trouble. We have thus far been unable to trade large contracts over the past 3-4 years at all and longer. If I am pessimistic here it is because I have good reason to be. At this stage of things plan for the worst and hope for the best but we have a historical basis here to rely on. We are currrently in cap trouble. We will still be in cap trouble until this is confirmed and if it is the maximum and then confirmed we will still be in cap trouble fighting with 13 other teams for the exact same UFAs; who will be asking for more with a cap increase I do believe we are potentially well positioned to move assets and gain space with an increase. but until such time as it is confirmed and something happens, I will not get excited.
  7. While I understand the idea of shifting assets and diminshing contracts etc. We at that point in time will still need to revamp the d-core, still need a quality rhc, 3rd line center and quality 3rd line winger while still managing to obtain the elusive RHD in a time where pettersson and now Hronek will need new contracts and a few others. On paper it looks easy, but the truth is it won't be.
  8. Doom mongers? False Narrative? Just curious. What....is false about these numbers again? Even with a $4 million increase. Just you know, asking what is false about any of that
  9. We know exactly what will happen. Statements will be made about now being able to make deals. No deals will be made. That extra space will be used to sign someone in free agency and in 7 months we'll be moaning about how we can't make deals due to cap issues coming up to the tdl
  10. I stand by my statement. No to Zach Schroeder...errr....Jordan benson. For the same reasons as Kristall. We need to get a shade more lunch box.
  11. Hahahahahaha he's gone in 13 months or less. Then we'll deal with the next one
  12. We ALL have these gems on almost every single signing. Us long term lifers and our hopey optimism
  13. Now again, here is the serious aspect. With TRILLIONS floating around. Who controls things? Like really controls things? Corporations have essentially convinced the people that they are "too big to fail" and if they start failing the governments just step in and bail then out. Happens all the bloody time. Over the top deficit spending is bad. Sure. But then so is corporate price fixing. But, what hurts people more?
  14. Therein is the major issue. Where does the wealth flow? Uphill. Entirely uphill. When the people are getting poorer, someone is getting richer and it is ALWAYS on the backs of the people getting poorer. THAT is the fundamental truth so many ignore and neglect when saying that :the government spending has caused inflation" while ignoring corporations and the wealthiest elite having priced the market in such a way as to ensure that this continues to happen.
  15. Tell me. Who; exactly I mean; controls and sets fuel prices in Canada and the US? Who is top 7 among grain/wheat and essential staple crop exportation in the world? Again. While I understand very well the supply chain issues and the economic statements and claims made about the who the why and the how it will change. I also know when I am being taken for a ride and people need to wake up and realize they're being lied to and screwed over. In fact, I have long voiced how insanely cyclical these economic issues were and how closely what is happening right now mirrored exactly what happened in the mid 70s that lead to the economic downturn that started in or around 1981-1982. But the truth of that, is that this also happened before twice before that. The most notable being the issues with and downfall or supposed downfall of the "robber barons" for those unfamiliar with who the Robber Barons were, how they operated or what they caused and how they caused it. Brush up on it. It is eerily similar to what is happening right now and for the exact same reasons and excuses. Mark Twain called it the gilded age. The monopolistic ownership of so much by so few and the massive inequality of wealth and the disproportionate effect it had on politics was very and is very prominent.
  16. Oh get off the cross my dude, we need the wood. Corporations set the prices of EVERYTHING in a free market society like ours. THEY are shrinking product sizes and charging more for them period. The government giving people cash excuse is such a tragic fallacy and here's why. Government giving people $110 billion for covid bad. Government giving businesses $300 billion good. Why? Corps used the money to buy back shares pay bonuses and "keep the doors open" people bought food. Corps knew people had the money they raised the prices. "inflation happened and it's the governments fault" Corps kept raising prices and blamed inflation knowing full well that the government would be blamed. The demand is great. yes, because people literally can not afford anything so sales or price breaks are created which cause a run on [insert item here] which causes demand which justifies even larger price increases and more shrunken product sizes. The government is not to blame for this, if they were than even corporations would be suffering, except they aren't. Why? because they have government money behind them as well as massive profits, profits in which they have had records every quarter essentially since the pandemic started almost across the board in almost every industry. They are 100% the reason to blame for the endless price increases and it isn't people. it isn't money. Oh, but theres X amount of trillions of dollars in liquidity floating around in the markets. Oh? there is? But people buying peanut butter and paying their rent is causing inflation because the government gave them money? it's a played out fallacy my dude. Trot out whatever economic excess and excuse you'd like but the truth is the system is so fu**ng broken that of course those excuses will exist; but it doesn't make them correct. They need to exist to justify yet more price increases. Ask yourself, where is the ceiling for all of this? When does the bottom fall out? when a 1 bedroom in shaunovan saskatchewan is now going for $1450 a month and the price of a loaf of bread is approaching $3.00 unsliced there HAS to be a breaking point. And I am 100% sure that will be lamed on ken and Jan johnston for merely feeding their kids due to this upcoming shopping/food assistance payment that is about to go out too.
  17. And some times the money is in the 3rd round.
  18. People gonna be hating me for this but I have seen Cristall play a number of times in kelowna this year and have now seen a fair amount of tape detailing both positives and negatives of Benson and both kinda give me Schroeder vibes. Sorry not sorry. I expect long detailed reports of how I couldn't be any more wrong, but the same types of things I saw in schroeder are prominent in both of these players who are unquestionably skilled but both missing something that may not be teachable or translatable in to the pro game
  19. But it's the government causing the pricing issues
