  1. Been point per game for us in 3 of 4 seasons. Slightly missed the mark the shortened season. 299 points in 282 games, he hits and hits often. Defensively he's good when he's not pouting. Production is never in question. His attitude can be detrimental but he publicly addressed it and honestly has been a consummate professional since Tocchet arrived. The only problem with the contract is it goes til he's 37. Which we'll never truly know what kind of player he'll be in his mid 30s until we get there. So it's a problem that may not even be a problem. Trading him made sense when we had the option to rebuild. That's no longer an option after the Hronek trade and the OEL buyout. Miller is arguably the 2nd best player on the team when he's firing on all cylinders. Although Hughes is so silky smooth it looks effortless. So maybe I am underrating how good he is. Regardless, the fact is Petey, Miller, and Hughes are the backbone of the team. Lets just hope we can find some good, cheap, secondary pieces otherwise this retool will go the way of the last retool.
  2. It's scary how much hype people are putting in Seattle's number 5 guy. It's our constant signing of these kind of guys that is killing our team. 3x3m is the max I'd do. And even then. He's only top 4 on our team cause our blueline is cheeks.
  3. We don't deal in facts here #onlycareaboutcanucks #whyareyoutryingtomakesense #lieaboutstuffwithusplease
  4. It would definitely be in line for the Canucks to keep making contradictory moves, if they're not outright lying about stuff.
  5. Soucy sounds like a Sbisa. Good 3rd pair that can play 2nd but might not be a great 2nd pair fit long term. But playing with Hronek should really help keep things simple for Soucy.
  6. Mikheyev is a solid middle 6 guy, not knockin' him as a player. But we did not get better by signing him. He did not fill a need. All adding him did was hinder cap flexibility. At a time management was literally bitching about cap flexibility. If we don't have him, teams don't hold us over the fire over Garland's contract.
  7. They handcuffed themselves by signing Mikheyev and maybe with the Boeser contract.
  8. It's a bad situation either way. On one hand, we want to be contending while we have Demko, Petey, and Hughes. But we didn't build around them as well as we should have. We gotta hope every move management makes is a home run. But so far that absolutely has not been the case. I hope everything works out though. I'm tired of feeling hopeless. Lol.
  9. To be fair, the Hronek vs pick debate is similar to the OEL vs pick debate. You trade for a proven defender, but if you're not gonna build around it better, you're better off with the picks. Those of us that want a rebuild and would rather have picks are of the mindset this team with it's cap constraints can't properly build around our core pieces, even with Hronek. So we traded picks for a player we don't think will be maximized. We need 2 top 4 D and we need a 3C. That'll cost money we don't have. According to capfriendly we have 6mil in cap space. All to replace OEL, add another top 4 D, and add a 3C. I'd rather have just kept the 1st and 2nd rounder we traded for Hronek, not bought out OEL, and just fixed our broken prospect pool and make a Hronek level trade when we have cap flexibility to actually build a contending roster. This is a case where we are trading picks to build a playoff roster. Teams generally don't do that. It's putting the cart before the horse. You trade picks to build on an already established roster. Yes, we're not likely drafting a Hronek with those picks. But we aren't a contending team by trading those picks for a Hronek either. So it made more sense to just stockpile picks and have 2 really good drafts. Wait out some bad contracts. And make a move in a couple years. At least imo. I don't want to sound like a smarty pants know-it-all. But I just don't think we were in a position to be trading for Hronek, as much as I love the guy, and buying out OEL didn't save our team like people want to pretend it did. Cause we have to fill OEL's hole and fill the 2 holes we had before buying him out, with little to no cap space. And with little to no draft capital and a pretty abysmal prospect pool. I dunno. There's always hope, but I just feel holding those picks and waiting a few years was the way to go.
  10. Would rather have Kassian than Lucic. And I don't even want Lucic. Lol.
  11. Gavrikov as well. Almost 6mil for a more defensive minded guy. Severson got that right hand tax I guess. Lol. 4m for Soucy is fair. He doesn't eat as many minutes as the bigger fish. Doesn't seem to be a big time shutdown guy either given his deployment is more ozone than dzone. If Graves' asking price is closer to Gavrikov money, I can see management preferring the cheaper option in Soucy.
  12. Yeah I been saying this for years. Same thing with Ovi and people bitching about him celebrating his goals "too enthusiastically." The fans and media have killed personality in the NHL. I do like Jack Hughes though. He has had some funny interview moments and the Puck Personality stuff he's usually pretty good. We need more PK Subbans and Ovechkins, not less. Sadly, I think we're just a sad sport that has bland personalities cause the media and fans don't like when players are bombastic.
  13. Dana's business aside, he's not wrong. NHL is horribly marketed. It's not accessible too. NHL falls way behind other sports, despite being more entertaining. We have boring white dudes as stars too. They can't even sell the product. Listen to them talk. 0 personality. Lol. UFC and NBA have personalities out the ass. In media and on the court/in the ring.
  14. Tocchet loves the guy. Will be interesting to see how Greener fairs on an actual good team. It's no secret our team has been ass for most of a decade.
  15. I'm just here to see if any more hindsight Harrolds dug up my old OEL trade takes to feel better about themselves. Thankfully nobody dug up my Virtanen takes. I said he was a top 6 guy just held back by bad coaching. Yikes, amirite?
  16. Also the years where it was easiest to trade him. Base salary goes from 8mil to 5mil the final 2 years of his deal. Not great, but still feels tradable.
  17. Canadian players also tend to like America. Lol. Less eyes on them and better taxes. Better weather too if you can manage a nice sunny city.
  18. New jersey can't re-sign a guy so they're trading him CDC - LeTs TrAdE tHeM gArLaNd
  19. Definitely looks like an all time bad trade already. Most of the other all time bad trades are all time great players getting traded for nothing. I doubt Guenther becomes an all time great, but we didn't trade him for nothing. We traded him for 2 years of meh play and 8 years of dead cap. At the very least, Garland is a good middle 6 guy. But trading a potentially good guy for no value is actually better than trading a good guy for all time negative value. Hey, we can add this trade to the Cam Neely trade. Cause our franchise wasn't embarrassing enough. Gotta update that résumé.
  20. Maybe I am misremembering this or making this up. But didn't Allvin say they weren't gonna dip into buyouts? Or at least say he was gonna do his best to avoid it. So while people are celebrating us sh*tting on our cap for almost 10 years. Shouldn't that be a worrying sign that the guys we speculate on cap dumping aren't movable? Like, at all. Lol.
  21. Yes, +/- is only brought up when someone wants to cook a player they don't like. And when it's used against a player they like, it's a meaningless stat.
  22. Ownership really f'd us over. Letting Benning make this trade and not giving him the leeway to do something with it is just dumb. If he was this close to being fired, why let him make this trade? I said it before, but he was fired like 5 months after making this trade. Ownership is destroying this franchise and fans are mad at Benning.
  23. Those guys are beyond long shots. We aren't a playoff team with them, let alone a contender. Our draft capital is depressing, our prospect pool is depressing, and outside of 4 players our NHL roster is depressing.
  24. Name them, cause if you're talking about the college FAs. They aren't really on ELCs. Not for very long anyway. If they prove they're worthwhile they aren't gonna be making ELC level money very long. Lekkerimaki is a long term project. Raty is also gonna be on one year deals til he proves he's NHL quality. So that's not long term cap relief.
  25. Our big names are expiring inside of this buyout. With the exception of Miller. Who most are thinking regresses below being worth that 8mil. So our known cap hits are unknown right now. People in the Hronek thread were claiming he might ask for upwards of 8mil. I think it's absurd. But the point is we don't have known cap hits on most of our star players that will be expiring around the time the buyout is at it's highest.
