Media Availability with GM JB and Head Coach Green (& Follow Up With JB on 650)

Looking forward to a busy summer. -
Barring a draft lottery win, is there any chance William Eklund falls to us?
-
So we have 5.4% odds to win the 1st overall pick, and an additional 5.4% odds to win 2nd overall, making it 10.8% odds to land in the top 2. Furthermore, if Arizona wins either spot, they will redraw--due to them violating the Combine Testing Policy--which will increase our chances ever so slightly. I'm okay with picking #2. https://www.tsn.ca/full-2021-nhl-draft-lottery-odds-1.1642540

I'm a lot more comfortable at 9 than I am at 10 or 11. Here's hoping we win the lottery.

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season

And this is why you play Holtby if you want us to tank. -
Boeser or Demko should have been MVP.
-
If Clarke fell out of the top 3, I would trade up for him. Watching the NFL draft, teams treated next years' draft picks like gold. We could entice a team by trading our 1st this year and 2nd next year--at least as a basis for a potential trade.

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season

Glad to see he's coming back. Hopefully he can continue his good drafting, and see his plan come to fruition. -
Ceulemans did have a good U18s, so he will probably rise in draft rankings, and teams' draft boards. I'm just a bit upset at the prospect of getting Ceulemans when we could have gotten Clarke.

Jonah Gadjovich makes his canucks Debut tonight!

Loved that fight. -
Most draft rankings have him around 25 for a reason. We already have someone like Ceulemans in Woo. We're not looking for a replacement for Tanev in the first round, we're looking for a potential top pairing defenseman.
-
I'm aware of that, but I think Demko could potentially play for 10 years at a high level. We need D and winger more like you said. Center depth is always nice too.
-
Definitely a very tempting proposition, but I think Demko will have a long career. It's just getting started.
-
I'm pretty confident in us getting a good player at 7. However, if we pick 10th--which seems pretty likely--I'm a lot more apprehensive.
-
Oh Wallstedt shoud be top 10 for sure.
-
I can't believe people are okay with settling for Ceulemans. If we are picking top 10, we better get a top 10 talent. The top 8 in this draft are pretty much interchangeable, and someone could drop unexpectedly, like Hughes or Edvinsson.
-
I'm with @DeNiro, we need to tank. If we win one of the next three games, we will pick 8th. The top 4 D will be gone by then. If we win all three games, we will pick 11th. So, we wouldn't just miss out on the top 4 D we so desperately need, we'd miss out on the best offensive players too. If we lose the next three games, we would pick no lower than 5th, and have good odds in the draft lottery. We have more positives to take from this season than a lot of the teams right above us in the standings. $&!# just went sideways for us when the whole team got COVID, and we started slow because of a rigorous schedule and no practice time. In terms of long-term outlook, we have one of the brightest futures in the league. But, getting a good draft pick now might make the difference between us being a contending team, and us being a cup-winning team. We have more total wins than Columbus, Detroit, San Jose, and LA, but might reap the benefits of the system being weighted on points and regulation wins. We need to take advantage. We have nothing more to prove in these meaningless games, except by letting rookies prove themselves with more playing time. I think we're all in agreement that our defense was our biggest weakness this season, leading us to always playing from behind. But, that won't be true for long if we get one of the top 4 D in Power, Clarke, Hughes, and Edvinsson. Quinn Hughes performed fairly well despite a sophomore slump, but the decline in play resulted in a worse PP and bad defense. I fully expect him to come back stronger next season. Rathbone and Juolevi have shown promise, and will be given a spot next year, especially if Edler retires as I suspect he will. Hamonic took a long time to get healthy and gel with his new teammates, but he's started to look a lot better down the stretch, and I think we'll resign him for a bargain. Schmidt took a long time to gel as well, but he is the kind of guy who will do a lot better with more time around his teammates, and fans in the stands. If we get one Power, Clarke, Hughes, and Edvinsson, that could crystalize our D-core. Power is that cornerstone you can build around. Clarke is a Duncan Keith-type, and could be the RHD that we need. Luke Hughes is Quinn's brother, and I think we have seen how well brothers can play together--having both might even entice Jack to come over as a free agent. Edvinsson has tantalizing gifts, and immense potential.
