  1. Might be a good year to trade picks for picks next year?
  2. It's helpful to think of them as "weird urges" or "intrusive thoughts," rather than "impulses." Impulses you act upon, urges and intrusive thoughts you don't.
  3. Yeah although I've kind of given up on pursuing a career in Psychology, I'm glad I studied it. Don't look at that Bachelor's Degree as a waste of time. I'm actually very lucky to know so much about Psychology, because I met some people who had psychosis around the same time as I did, and many of them were 18 year olds who had no idea that psychosis was a real thing--they thought it was just something you saw in movies. Took them a long time to accept medication, whereas I accepted it right away. I get ear worms too. Not so much a single word, but a phrase. That's actually what kind of encapsulated my relapse. I was in Cuba with my dad on the two year anniversary of being voluntarily committed to a psychiatric ward. It was literally to the day. We were talking about the beauty of words in oral poetry (I was reading The Iliad). He pointed out that if you stress different words in a sentence it can have different meanings, and gave an example: "HE said, 'I never saw him take the money.' He SAID, 'I never saw him take the money.' He said, 'I never saw him take the money.' He said, 'I NEVER saw him take the money.'" So on, and so forth. I commented that I thought that's quite interesting. Then, I thought about how he just exchanged Cuban money to get Canadian money since we were going back to Vancouver, and thought there must be some connection. Then a full blown ear worm ensued, and I thought of that phrase repeatedly, stressing a different word each time. I had a really bad panic attack, and we had to leave the restaurant. I guess you could say that was my worst intrusive thought. I realized in that moment that I may have not had insight about thinking delusionally about a movie being made about me. I thought it was my own warped sense of humour, and not my psychosis creeping back in. So, I was put back on medication, and my diagnosis was changed from 'brief psychotic episode' to 'schizophrenic.'
  4. Yeah it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There's a reason "Obsessive" comes first: Compulsions usually start off a way to ward off bad thoughts or obsessions. It's like a feedback loop. However, sometimes the compulsions are actually the worst part because some people with OCD will literally wash their hands until they bleed. People just think of it as perfectionism, but that's a gross oversimplification. My psychiatrist definitely considered diagnosing me with OCD (I studied Psychology so I picked up on it right away), but she decided that I really only had one obsession--a monomania so to speak--and it kind of has to be obsession(s) plural. However, I definitely do have some compulsions like always doublechecking if I turned the tap off.
  5. I get intrusive thoughts all the time. I'm technically schizophrenic, but I haven't had positive symptoms (ie. delusions) in years. I'm on the lowest possible dose for the medication I'm on (olanzapine). A lot of people don't realize that a diagnosis of schizophrenia isn't based on severity, but duration. Having symptoms within 6 weeks is a 'brief psychotic episode'; having an episode that lasts under 6 months is 'schizophreniform disorder'; and having symptoms over 6 months is 'schizophrenia'. Because I had my apparent relapse 2 years after my first episode, I've been diagnosed schizophrenic, even though I've only had positive symptoms for a few weeks of my life. It's perfectly normal to have intrusive thoughts, but those that suffer from mental illness may have them more frequently. One reason I really like Eminem, is that I feel like he takes intrusive thoughts, and makes them into something violently beautiful. It's telling that he's diagnosed himself with OCD. The most common intrusive thoughts I have are of hitting people when they are least suspecting it. When I'm walking behind them and stuff like that. Although I would never actually act on them.
  6. I think they should keep the Lotto Line, but try Pettersson on the wing. Bump Pearson down to the third line, and have a couple youngsters on Horvat's wings. Petterson - Miller - Boeser Hoglander - Horvat - Virtanen Pearson - Sutter - Gaudette Hawrlyuk - Beagle - Motte
  7. Hard to believe he only has 1 point in 21 games, but I've actually liked the play of Virtanen. He's been getting takeaways, clearing the puck, and shooting more. I like the looks he's been getting on the second line. Now, if only he wasn't so snakebitten.
  8. I like the defensemen at the top of this draft, but there is very little separating them right now. I hope the draft is pushed back a year so we can actually scout them properly.
  9. That was painful to watch. Virtanen, Hogz, and Demko were the only ones who seemed to care.
  10. Congratulations Burrows!! Maybe you can coach for us in the future!
  11. He definitely needs to work on his defense, but he is leading defensemen in points--and is tied for 10th overall--and isn't getting the recognition for it.
  12. Guess Dubois wasn't kidding when he said he's never been more ready for a game. But Holtby should have saved some of those. We are now 3rd last in the league in point percentage. I say we just keep Green and tank for a good pick. This is not really the season for a new coach to implement his system. Trade some of our bottom 6 for draft picks.
  13. I thought we played well tonight, but it was maddening how many times we missed the net on a grade A chance. Those crosschecks on Hoglander not being called is unforgiveable.
  14. I think we have another Calder finalist on our hands. Hoglander has an amazing combination of skill and tenacity. He's become even more confident the past few games, and I think he'll start scoring at a higher clip as that line is starting to gel. I'm also really excited with Ty Smith. The Devils are my second favourite team, and he's been amazing. This Calder race is more wide open than it's been in years. Kaprizov, Lankinen, Kurashev, and Suter have been really good as well. It's kinda crazy the last 3 are all on the Blackhawks. Maybe we'll have a renewed rivalry with Chicago in a few years.
  15. Boeser for sure. His shot is back to what it was as a rookie, but his all-around game is better. He's second in goals to Matthews, and I think he'll finish top 5. Just last game he saved us a point in more ways than one. He assisted on Horvat's goal; dove to save a breakaway; and scored with 30 secs left. However, I think Hughes should get more love. He is leading all defensemen in points, despite not playing with a good or stable partner.

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

I really liked Juolevi with Myers last game. Hopefully they stay together.
  17. I actually feel pretty good about this series. Could be a big part of a turnaround. We'll learn a lot about our team from it regardless.
  18. I'd like to keep Gaudette, since he has figured his stomach issue out. Could do wonders for his development.
  19. This next series with Calgary will determine a lot of things. Wouldn't be surprised if we took 3 of 4 games. But, if we lose the series, we will probably finish 6th in the North.
