  1. Can you do research like Sid? Can you write a post like Sid?
  2. That is pretty ironic, but I don't think he will get it. You may need to explain.
  3. Feel free to take a look at those top 20 AHL goal scorers and tell me how many of them are Gadj's age and have shown the same dramatic improvement he has shown in the last year or two. I saw one poster who suggested that given the way he produced in junior combined with his current performance in a professional men's league, Gadj "could end up being" a 20 goal scorer. Was there one I missed who suggested that he "will" be a 20 goal scorer? Because "will" and "could end up being" do not mean the same thing. But we silly Canucks fans appreciate you "just trying to lower people's expectations." I am sure we can count on you and your buddies to do so ad nauseam whenever the team loses a game. And to disappear whenever they win.
  4. Yes, BRO, he did negotiate that clause, and the team agreed to it. From the crap you are spouting here, I am guessing that anybody who is foolish enough to enter into a contract with you, expecting you to keep your word, is doomed to be disappointed. As far as personality issues go, I could be wrong, but from reading your posts it sounds to me like you are projecting.
  5. So you attribute his goal scoring prowess in junior to his "freakishly manly physique". Now that he is leading a pretty good professional league in goals, scoring very close to a goal per game playing against MEN, what is it, still just his manly physique, or just luck, or what?
  6. Or to put this in a different, more honest way, he planned to keep his word and honour his contract, and he expected the Canucks to do the same. It sounds to me that the words honourable and honest are not words that you can really relate to.
  7. To answer the OP, no, of course Petey has not asked for a trade. With absolutely no evidence or logic pointing in that direction, only a troll or simpleton would suggest that he has.
  8. As is trolling. Like saying something stupidly negative with nothing at all to back it up, for the obvious purpose of annoying the Canucks fans.
  9. Because that is what people say when they don't understand something. And from the brilliance of your posts, I suspect that happens to you a lot.
  10. I would imagine you say and think that a lot.
  11. I know what you mean. His disgusting attitudes on a number of points would have him on my ignore list, if it weren't for the fact that he does sometimes provide useful info about our prospects.
  12. I agree with most of what you say here. But when someone suggests that honouring your contract/ keeping your word (to 2 of your loyal franchise icons) is optional, or that the best way to deal with a valuable (recent Selke winner) but distressed asset is to trash the asset "to show 'em who's the boss" rather than just moving on for whatever you can get, IMO the issue is not knowledge or ignorance, it is character.
  13. The Canucks blueline injury woes predate Tanev's. 10 years ago, when major injuries on defence allowed us to keep all of Hamhuis, Edler, Juice, Salo and Ehrhoff for our Cup finals run, Tanev's nickname at the time was "Gumby" because he seemed to be made of rubber. When he was hit, he just bounced right back and never seemed to get injured.
  14. It is kind of surprising that we have had so few injuries on the blueline halfway through this compressed season. Considering that this year we have young Dmen we would like to see get NHL time, and we could use some minor injuries to get them into the lineup, I guess that's just Canuck luck lol.
  15. You know that when you are debating with someone who suggests that a team should "just move" players with NMCs and should force unhappy players to sit home and "rot" rather than trading them, you are attempting to be reasonable with someone who chooses to believe that keeping your (written) word is stupid and that one maximizes the value of assets by destroying them, right? Do you really expect to get an honest response from someone like that?
  16. I imagine he is referring to the price we paid for Toffoli, to help get us into the playoffs. If you choose to believe that playoff experience has no value, then yes that price was wasted. I wonder how many coaches and GMs of improving young teams would agree with that belief?
  17. Given the lack of preseason and a real training camp, and the way the NHL schedule makers shafted the Canucks (surprise, surprise) at the start of the season, giving them a brutal first month with no time at all to practice and integrate their new players into the team, with far less practice time and rest time in the first month than any other team, a terrible start was an easily foreseeable consequence. That's where those games in hand you reference came from. The Canucks are halfway through their season schedule, and even now not a single team in the league has played as many games (or had as little time to practice and rest) as the Canucks. Those who claim that "every team is in the same boat" are being disingenuous, unless they really don't understand the value of practice and rest and giving players a chance to become integrated into the team before playing real games. Now that they have had a chance to practice together, they are starting to look like a team. This should not actually be a surprise.
  18. Sure a lot of people here who want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Personally I am loving the stream of Calder finalists and other extremely promising young players Benning is accumulating. In a cap-strapped world there is nothing more valuable than premium quality young players on cheap contracts. Right now we have Petey, Huggy, Hogs and Demko taking the combined cap hit of one fairly good player. How many GMs are doing better than that with several million cap dollars this year? Podz will probably be the next one to produce a ridiculous amount of value for his cap hit. If the Benning haters have their way he might be the last.
  19. There sure seem to be a lot of people here who have a very weak understanding of the difference between excuses and reasons. Hint: one has to do with rationalizing something that should not have happened, the other has to do with easily forseeable consequences. Anybody using the word "excuse" to describe Benning's honest statements would be well advised to google the difference between the two words. Anybody insisting that JB should be dumping bodies immediately for draft picks, and who choose to assume that JB's honest accurate description of the market conditions is an "excuse", need to open their eyes. This year, due to the cap and the upcoming ED, the trade market has been devastated. So far this season, there have been a total of four trades in the NHL, and ZERO of them have been bodies for picks. Think about that. Anybody who thinks a team should be a cup winner, or even contender, within a few years of starting a rebuild, needs to think a bit about the math. With 31, soon to be 32 teams, on average each team will win the cup 3 times per century. But since cup winners tend to win more than one cup before their windows close, 50 year gaps between cup wins are going to be very common. If the only thing that matters to you is winning a cup, you are pretty much guaranteeing that you will be miserable. The product here is entertainment, not cups.
  20. He doesn't have a great hockey IQ, but he is an eager kid with great tools who is willing to learn, he just takes a while to do so. Situations where a Petey, Huggy or Hogs might see immediately what to do, Jake needs to see and get his nose rubbed in quite a few times before he finally recognizes the pattern and doesn't need to think about it any more. He has improved a little each year, and that is likely to continue, because the more experience Jake gets, the more effective he is going to be. Because it takes this kind of player so long to learn, and because power forwards tend to accumulate damage over time, he is likely to have a relatively short window of peak effectiveness, probably starting at age 25 or 26. Fortunately, that window looks like it will coincide with those of our best young players who are a bit younger than he is but who learn more quickly. Imagine a Jake regularly playing like he did last night, when Petey, Brock, Hogs, Bo, Huggy, Podz etc, etc, etc,, are all a little older, stronger and more experienced. Imo it would be a mistake to trade him now.
  21. 9 times out of 10, whatever you do an NHL goalie is going to stop it. So any one occasion if you score it is likely to take some luck. But if you crash the net 10 times and get one goal, that goal is not luck, same as that over the shoulder shot, try it 10 times and get one goal, it's not really luck. If Jake continues to crash the net like that and take shots like that, he will get his share. I hope he does because he needs 11 more goals this year for me to win a bet. I think at this point my chances are about the same as the Canucks chances of making the playoffs.
  22. That is pretty much exactly what I expect to see. And I think that his game, he, and his wife will all thrive here.
  23. Great game Jake! I have to laugh at the "realistic fans" describing one well earned hard work force his way to the net goal and one beautiful snipe as "lucky". Must be nice for Jake to know his fans have his back lol.
  24. Yeah, absolutely, Green never gives rookies a chance. Brock, Petey, Huggy and Hogs would certainly attest to that, right?
