  2. What do you think about trading our 10th pick with Ottawa for their 19th and 32nd? We could then try and draft Seider at 19 and Bjornfot at 32 Then we would still have our 40th - Foote, Leason, Korczak
  3. This is very very interesting how high Seider is ranked Bjornfot and Teply sound like good prospects also. Would be awesome to get them with the first second and third round picks
  4. Ya I was just reading his scouting report again on Dobber, He looks like a better prospect than I thought. He has good size for the NHL at 6'2 190pounds and he will only get stronger. He thinks the game well and has an offensive approach. His stats dropped when he went from junior to the mens league as an 18yr old but that is understandable. I think this next season he will get more ice time and have an opportunity to score more points. Maybe in the 2021 season we can bring him over to Utica.
  5. Im still not sure what Canucks staff saw in Linus Karlsson, hope he has a good off season of training followed by a good year of development next year. As of right now it seems like he is a long ways off from being a top 6 impact player on the Canucks!
  6. I agree with what your saying. I think its also worth remembering this season what this team is like without Edler and Tanev playing. We lost almost every game. Our defence was so bad (especially with Gudbranson and Pouliout) and the only thing holding us in it most nights is these two guys. That said Stetcher and Hutton stepped up at the end. But Benning has stated our defence needs to be rebuilt. I look at Colorado and how long it took them to get to this point. How many years of loosing and getting good draft picks. We need to rebuild our defence through the draft. Benning is scouting 3 defence man in Sweden right now. I think its a good bet we will be taking defence man with our first 2-3 picks. If we are planning to be a contending team in 3 years, these draft picks will help us with our defensive depth.
  7. Taking what bracket said into account. How they consider what kind of player they would be in 3-4 years. How would they fit in our system with our coaches. I think I would take Alex Newhook C/LW
  8. As of today, who would you guys take with the 10th pick out of: 1. Newhook 2. Soderstrom 3. Caufield 4. Zegras
  9. NYR already have a stacked group of top prospects. Add in a Kakko, and a Fox and I think they are building a dynasty.
  10. A lot of fans seem frustrated with the fact that our prospects struggle in Utica. To me it shows that the AHL is a really high level of hockey. There is no cheating in the AHL like some prospects might have been able to get away with in the CHL. Players are faster, stronger, and more skilled than what they are used to in Jr. The living arrangement is new and different for them. Team travel is different. For the most part they enter the AHL boys and don't get to advance to the NHL until they are pro's who can play a man's game at the highest level. To think this will be a walk in the park for most of our new prospects is unrealistic thinking on our parts. I see it as a good thing that the league is so difficult. That it has ex. NHL players in it who are competing to get back in the big show. The competition is real, most don't make it, its a sink or swim situation and only the best move forward. It challenges your mental strength and your will. Your window is short and there are a lot of nasty players who will attempt to injure you. When you reach a point where you can thrive in this environment your ready to be an impact player for the NHL club. I think Kole Lind will get there. He has the right attitude about being honest with what he needs to improve on combined with his athleticism, compete, and edginess I think its the recipe for a quality NHL hockey player. Only the best will pass through Utica. We also have another good prospect in Zack MacEwen who looks like he will have a good NHL career! Good things take time. The future is bright in Vancouver. Go Canucks Go!
  11. When I see Moritz Seider and the way he plays at 6'4 200lbs 18yr old he reminds me of a young Shea Weber with similar size and physicality. Weber was picked 49th overall. If Seider can develop a bomb of a shot like Weber he could become another home run pick for Benning. Spider loves to hit and lay the body something this team is missing. he will likely fill out to around 220-230lbs. If we can get a right shot first pairing defence man to play with Hughes that has a bomb of a shot we will be a much more dangerous team and be built for the playoffs. 12. COHEN: Is Moritz Seider the most interesting player in the draft? Russ Cohen Columnist The 2019 NHL Draft is months away, but some players are shining on and off the ice. Moritz Seider is one of those players and he’s doing it in Germany. German defenseman aren’t new to the NHL. I covered Dennis Seidenberg back when he played for the Philadelphia Phantoms. He was a 2001 draft pick, a sixth-rounder, back then he was one of a few but he, Uwe Krupp and Christian Ehrhoff, were thought to be the gold standard until Seider. He could be the best, he has a long way to go before we see if that shakes out but he’s off to a great start. The Adler Manheim defenseman had two goals and six points in 29 games this season as a 17-year-old. He had a point in his first two playoff games as well. At 6-4, 198 pounds, he has the kind of frame teams love. He’s at the start of his potential, not the end. There’s a lot of room for growth. There have been a few teams scouting him recently. He plays a good, simple game and he’s a very down to earth guy. Many are talking about his calmness on the ice, another really good 21st-century trait that teams really like. To potentially draft a defenseman, who is low maintenance, with this kind of size, that puts him on a lot of teams’ radar for sure. He could be a top 15 pick before it’s all said and done. Seider is playing against men and having success. He’s already had really good success at the International level, so this was a good year for him in regard to his development and him getting some recognition as we get closer to the NHL Draft. In a field of four other players, Seider was up for the DEL Rookie of the Year Award. I’m sure many felt he had a really good chance to win the prestigious award and he did just that. Once again this speaks to the resume and intrigue that’s growing. Leon Draisaitl was called “The German Gretzky” and well all wrote about it and said it when it was getting close to the draft. Seider hasn’t earned some sort of nickname just yet. None that might translate here. That’s probably the next thing that will happen in the evolution of his story. He’s had to overcome some adversity this year. He had a shoulder injury early on and that cut down the number of his games. Nobody seems to be worried about it so that’s not going to drop him in the draft. Now add the award that he’s won and couple that with the fact that he’s a right-handed shot, and now you have someone who doesn’t seem like he will drop out of the Top 20. Defenseman are a high form of currency in a teams’ organization these days. If you develop them, you get the benefit of having one of six in your everyday lineup. If you draft a promising defenseman but find yourself in a situation where you have to trade one. The value of a good one is very high and extremely desirable. Most aren’t available in free agency, so teams mostly get them in trade, or they draft them. After the draft, Seider will likely come over and either play junior hockey or even play in the AHL. Owen Sound has his draft rights so that’s one option for sure. The fact that he has a physical side to his game and he already has good size, I don’t think the AHL is out of question. Some teams would really like that because they’d be able to get him playing their way right away and that’s proved to be an effective way to bring along some players. William Nylander did it successfully. Kevin Fiala as well. Hampus Lindholm and Oliver Kylington played in the AHL when they were just 18 as well. Those two are especially good examples because they’re defenseman. You never know at what age a prospect will make their NHL debut unless they are a top 2 pick, those players you have a better idea. With Seider, you get the idea that he needs further development, but the curve may not be as long as a typical defenseman. He doesn’t seem like a typical defenseman, and not because he’s German, he’s just different. He seems to be ahead of schedule mentally and physically he’s got the size part all worked out as he waits for his man strength to work its way in. When that happens, he could be a scary player to face. I expect a lot more stories to come out about him before June. We’re still just scratching the surface in learning about him.
  13. If Benning is looking for another home run could Moritz Seider be that guy?? Currently not projected to be a top pairing defence man but if his game progresses with his size he could be an absolute stud. We need size on our team to compete in the playoffs. Is it fair to say we can find skilled top 6 wingers in the second round? Is 10 to early to pick Seider? Could we trade down to say 14-16 and try to acquire another pick?
  14. Newhook is going to be a late climber. I predict he goes top 10

  16. Victor Soderstrom Scouting Report: 2019 NHL Draft #12 By Ben Kerr - April 11, 2019 Skating Soderstrom is an elite skater which allows him to play an effective two-way game. His speed is exceptional, in both directions. He gets up to speed quickly, with excellent acceleration and a great first step. He also has very good edgework and agility, allowing him to quickly change directions. With good pivots, he transitions from offence to defence and vice-versa quickly. This also allows him to cover huge areas of ice and makes him tough to beat in one-on-one situations. Soderstrom is strong on his skates allowing him to win battles on the boards and in front of the net at the junior level. However, he is a bit undersized and this becomes more apparent when he plays against men. His low centre of gravity can help going forward, provided he adds more muscle to his frame. Offensive Game Soderstrom has good vision and passing skills, whether it is starting the rush or quarterbacking the play at the point. He can also make the long breakaway pass in transition. His wrist shot features a quick release but he needs to be more accurate and add power. While he has improved his slap shot over the last year, there is still more work to do. The lack of power in his shot is the biggest limiting factor to his offensive game right now. Soderstrom can handle the puck, skating it out of danger or rushing through the neutral zone. Soderstrom is a very intelligent player. He reads the play extremely well, whether that be playing at the point on the power play or in leading the rush. His ability to anticipate and read the movements of his teammates and opponents allows him to be creative and create scoring chances. Defensive Game Soderstrom is also very good defensively, with a quick stick. He is tough to beat in one-on-one situations and forces opponents to the outside. His positioning is very good as he reads the play well and keeps himself between his opponent and the net. Soderstrom is strong on his skates and willing to play a physical game but is not a big hitter. That said, he battles hard along the boards and in front of the net. This is another area where he will need to get stronger to play this style going forward. He is more comfortable using his stick to poke check an opponent and steal the puck away. He also cuts off passing lanes. Soderstrom uses his skating ability and smarts to maintain good gap control. Projection and Comparison Soderstrom projects to be a solid all-around defenceman. There are some size concerns but with the way the NHL is going in recent years, they should not limit his potential. His elite skating and high IQ allows him to compensate for that lack of size. Continued improvement on his slap shot will allow him to become a dynamic threat on the power play. Soderstrom’s game is reminiscent of Hampus Lindholm but this is a style comparison only and not one based on skill or ability.
  17. I hope Madden has a good off season of training and takes his game to another level next season. #hobeybaker
  18. I just read about the idea to trade up to the #4 spot that Colorado has. Canucks trade 10th overall, Demko, Hutton or Juolevi for the 4th overall selection in 2019 draft. 4th - Canucks draft Bowen Bryam 6'1 192lbs LD 40th - Canucks draft Kaedan Korczak 6'3 192lbs RD 3rd round - Canucks draft Drew Helleson 6'2 181lbs RD
  19. I have been going back and forth on this decision all night. But at 10 I say we go for Victor Soderstrom. I think he would make a great defensive pairing with Olli Juolevi. He would help our club be one step closer to rebuilding our defence. He is the coveted right shot defence man we need who is responsible and a good skater. Last season the team in Sweden he plays for let Adam Boqvist run the show this next season will be Victor Soderstrom's turn. His game is still developing and he could still become elite. It might seem like a boring pick now but it will fill a major hole with our team. Pettersson will have another Swedish friend on the team. here is a scouting report on him. 10 - Victor Soderstrom 40- Patrik Puistola 71 - Martin Hugo Has Scouting Report Graceful two-way defenseman who sticks to the belief that defending and coverage are equally as important as rushing and distrubuting the puck. Soderstrom last season was carefully nurtured by Brynas in their under-18 junior team, as Adam Boqvist controlled the backline for the U20 squad. Now that Boqvist has moved on, it’s Soderstrom’s chance to take the reigns and prove himself to be an elite defense prospect. He’s gifted with the puck and has a commanding presence while orchestrating an attack from as far back as his own goal line. Soderstrom is a hard shooter with a whip-like release for his wrister, which is tough to handle and causes rebounds, especially during the power play. Soderstrom is an excellent puck handler with soft hands and a quick-strike mentality — he always looks for a home-run option and can make accurate stretch passes immediately upon retrieval. He also skates the puck out with speed and confidence, and he creates end-to-end rushes that can place him deep into opposing territory. What separates Soderstrom from almost all draft prospects is that he can read plays extremely well, and he uses his quickness and elite backskating to limit the amount of times he gets trapped. Soderstrom is an excellent one-on-one defender and keeps an incredibly tight gap. He communicates effectively with his teammates, who can rely on Soderstrom to cover the slot and only support below the goal line if the situation is critical. There are times when he backs in too much while defending against an entry, but his quick first step, fast closing speed and active stick make life otherwise difficult for opposing puck carriers. He also can play on the penalty kill and will successfully challenge bigger forwards in the low slot or crease area. Soderstrom is very strong on his skates and can deliver jarring hits along the boards or in open ice. The Real Deal Holyfield with immense promise.
  20. I haven't been able to find any highlight videos of Harley. Broberg looks good in his highlight video but when I watched him live in Victoria he didn't wow me. Branstrom was by far the best Swedish defence man and Sandin was second. When I read scouting reports about Soderstrom it reminds me of Rasmus Sandin. Boldy I think would be a good LW with Horvat.(Some people say Mark Stone but the scouting reports also remind me of Boeser) Newhook has better skating than Boldy but taking him might be risky. Caufield and Kaliyev are the two of the best scorers in this draft. If we are looking for another Pettersson like upset it will most likely be with one of these two guys or Boldy. Another thought might be to see if we can trade up to #7 or #8 (we could pick a different caliber of player in this range)
  21. Anyone know much about a LW from Prince George Cougars named Josh Maser? He hits like a truck and wins fights. He's also scored some goals. Might be a 4th line NHL kind of guy. Possible 5th round pick? 22. At the end of this draft if we have 3 more prospects that look like locks for future roster players on our team I will consider this a big win for us.
  23. Highest % odds that we pick 9th or 10th. According to Bob Mackenzie these are some players who will be available for us in that grouping. Boldy or Krebs could be a good fit with Bo Horvat. However its harder to find a top 4 right defence man. Soderstrom could be that guy. Might be a good fit with Juolevi. Broberg, and Harley I think both play a fast game but need to fine tune the details. My gut tells me Krebs is the best choice based off his leadership, character, and skill. Although if management knows something I don't I trust in their decision. 9. Matthew Boldy (Mid-season: 7) Left Wing | USA NTDP (WHL) | 6'2 | 187 lbs. | Apr. 5, 2001 2018-19 STATISTICS 10.
