  1. This was one of the best trades ever in the organization. Linden went for Bertuzzi and Bryan McCabe as well as a third round pick which turned into Jarko Ruutu. Mc Cabe became the player traded to Chicago for the pick that allowed us to draft both Sedins. Sadly we get way too emotionally invested in our players here in Vancouver. If Bo cant be happy making 8 million a year in Vancouver there may be other reasons he wants out.Family pressures or just a new opportunity. I am happy to see a player succeed elsewhere who gave his heart and soul to this team.I just hope we get back assets that make us successful as well. Sometimes the trade makes sense to the brain just not the heart.
  2. If it really has come down to Bo not accepting what the Canucks can offer then moving him soon er than later makes sense. He is a known quantity, teams know what they get from him. Sadly we chose Miller over Bo. I think that may be an error but who knows. Trading this player needs to be done soon as the worst case scenario is he gets hurt and cannot finish the season thus leaving him as less trade value or can walk for nothing. I dont care what team we trade him to just get back what we need to improve this team. RHD in some form of decent quality.Cap space is a plus but really if it solved a glaring weakness id take no cap space and a player that helps us win.
  3. yes I agree with an expiring contract that frees up a bit of money to se on BO or another signing.
  4. the salary wouldnt be a problem if its the right player coming back. say a good RHD for 5.5? and if it was an expiring deal on one of them that wouldnt hurt the cap either
  5. its not really Makars penalty but the player rushing the puck that used him as a screen. Makar sits but the fault lies with i think it was Mackinnon carrying the puck there.
  6. That was a pretty good game on a couple fronts. Better effort in the third period. The Offense showed up. Got a few bounces especially the one off the camera that cost the Knights the go ahead goal. The offense was good. Peteys line looked dangerous every time they were on the ice. Horvat Miller and Garland looked good also Aman Joshua Lazar looked good as well also that was one of the first games I didnt throw something at the TV in response to OEL playing like crap. He wasnt noticeable at least in a horrible way last night. Myers was on the ice for a couple goals for and was in front of the net on Kuzmenkos goal. Hughes plays Offense like no other D man we have had. Best pure passer i think we have ever had. Still a liability on D though. how Bruce can keep playing Stillman over Burroughs drives me crazy. Sadly that was one of the worst games Thatcher Demko has played in a Canuck uniform. The puck he shot off the Knights player that led to their possession and a goal was brutal. He also has had difficulty controlling rebounds and on a couple occasions last night forced the puck up the middle in the slot. He is starting to become a liability back there. Especially when handling the puck. He needs to simplify his game. The winning goal he needs to make that stop plain and simple. That could have been the game that turned the season around but alas more of the same.
  7. This i dont agree with at all If this was the first signs of difficulty with this team you could say have patience. they will play themselves out of this funk. This is a veteran laden line up at this point. Horvat, Miller, Pearson, Garland, Boeser,Myers, Schenn, even Demko. This has been a disaster. They cant play smart entertaining hockey because they dont have the pieces due to being against the salary cap with the current players. This season is not far from being over. Its worse than last year and we missed the playoffs last season also. after 50 years of watching them i am tried of wait till next season. I drank the kool aid after last season and shame on me for believing once again that we had the team we saw for 60 games. If we could just start out 500 i thought. get a 4 game streak going. get a hot goalie. so many thoughts. This core is not solid enough to grow into a contender. Too many inconsistencies and mental mistakes. I wanted Miller back. I was wrong. He would have been more value in the trade market. I thought Demko could be Vezina caliber goalie. so far I was wrong. I wanted Bo as Captain. I may have been wrong here although im not sure there is/was a better option. I was excited to see Hughes land in our laps. Maybe the other teams knew something. Like he would be a huge liability defensively. I wanted Green fired. Bruce came in and I looked like a genius.but now i just think the smoke screen fooled me. 50+ years of watching this team, well it is starting to wear. The heart says keep watching, Every October i drag my old jerseys out of the closet. watch 82 games hoping this will get better. When? When does it get better? 82, 94 and 2011. 0 championships and three finals appearances. Sigh I guess its better than being a leafs fan
  8. I have been watching this since 1970. its sometimes difficult to stomach the way our team has played and been built. What is necessary sometimes is the patience to let it develop. This isnt the case here. Its not a case of prospects playing their way through mistakes. Its the Long term players who arent able to take the next step. The list here is long. Horvat, Miller, OEL, Pearson, Boeser, Garland, Myers and Demko, These are longer term players who for whatever reason cant seem to take the next step. If they were all around 20 you could say they were learning the craft. This core group is not taking us to the finals. Petey and Hughes might be part of the next group but Pettersson wants to win and somewhere soon. Hes not signing to stay in this mess .How long before Hughes wants out as well? Hoglander and Podkolzin? maybe. The cupboard is pretty bare in Abby as well. Who i exciting on the baby Nucks right now. Not much buzz there either. The hardest part of the rebuild is knowing some of the players we held close for a while now have to be moved to gather picks and make room for younger prospects to play and make their way into the lineup. We probably have to start at square one again.but Drafting has to reflect the need to rebuild. We need a goaltending prospect. One at about 17-18 years old that is dominant. The work the draft for the next three to four years to find D men with some nastiness.shut down D men.to compliment a Hughes if he is still here. After that we can start worrying about 10 million dollar forwards. What we have been doing isnt working. Time to change tactics.
  9. The big question is when do the players get held accountable for this disaster. I agree theres lots of blame to go around from Benning to Rutherford to Allvin then the coaching staff etc but when do we look at what Demko has done this year and simply say thats not good enough.Miller, Boeser, Garland, OEL, Myers Pearson.Theres been about three or four players this year that have been consistent and have played pretty well all season so far. Pettersson has been good. Horvat has scored almost every game although his faceoff percentage hasnt been dominant. Aman and Joshua have played well on the fourth line. Kuzmenko and Mikheyev have been decent .but thats about where it stops. No other Forward has been consistently in the game so far this season. Defensively its a complete disaster. OEL has been awful in his own end. Myers is complete chaos and a Penalty machine. Stillman and Bear havent helped. Hughes hasnt been great in his own end even though he has 14 assists. Brisebois and Rathbone didnt look awful in their time with the big club Schenn has been the best d man the last three years. and thats not a good thing. Lastly Demko has been plain awful. I have given it to Alf when he has been on Thatcher over the past couple years. There were nights when the only thing that kept us in games was TD. This season we need to put out an ad on a milk carton because the guy wearing his jersey has gone missing. Demko is most of what is wrong with the team. Thats a lot to put on the young man but its the truth. When your goaltender gives up a soft goal it deflates the team. When he isnt the best player on the PK you are last in the league in stats. When he doesnt steal a game or two the record speaks for itself. Demko was our MVP the last two years. and deservedly so. This year he has not been. Spencer Martin has been a bright light in this crappy start to the year. Love his compete level. im not sure hes a starter, but he is definitely playing better than the guy who is supposed to be the starter. I love the Canucks.plain and simple. I want them to be better. I know that what i do, think or write doesnt affect the team. I have learned that from watching every single season of this soap opera. But i do know its hard to watch right now. Its not entertaining to see them jump out to three goal leads and then collapse. To see them take a penalty and know thats one we will have to get back. To watch the goaltender think he has the puck only to have it luckily go around the back of the net and not end up in our net. Something is very wrong with this team, Not the coaches. Not the management. Its the players on the ice. Its fire sale time. Time to start over. Time to find a new captain. a new Goaltender a new D man prospect pool. Start with the new Goalie and work your way out. Forget about the 9 million dollar forwards until you have a D core that makes sense. We need 2 shut down D men that can contain the chaos in our own end. OEL, Myers even Hughes are not taking us to the finals. They dont control the game. as much as i hated Duncan Keith when he was on the ice things settled down for the Hawks.Same with Pronger, or Stevens. It wouldnt hurt to be in the running for Bedard this year. We arent making the playoffs anyways and we are right to the cap. Its time. This group has had its chances. time to move on. Bruce will lose his job soon. The team will talk about how bad it is that someone loses their job because they didnt perform but it wont change anything in the standings.
  10. that was just a team that wasnt ready to compete. Bruce has done what he can with this group. Mike Yeo has been a disaster everywhere he has coached and from what everyone says he is a nice guy but he is just not successful. The power play had an ok day but the PK is awful. so many mental errors. Lazy plays. No drive no desire, its painful. The team is waiting for the shoe to drop.waiting for management to make a move. They know its coming just when. a Trade or coaching change is in the wind.
  11. Tough day for west coast sports. Seahawks Lions and Canucks losing. Sigh. It’s pretty depressing being a sports fan in Vancouver. It’s pretty bad this year.
  12. Ok to me the biggest difference to last year is in net. Demko has not had a good start and we know he is streaky so its very possible he will go on a hot streak as well. teams are able to get the pass through laterally and making him move side to side. sometimes thats on the D sometimes its him not reading the play very well. He has to count on the defenseman to not allow the pass on 2 on 1 s but specifically in the Edmonton game when the pass goes across he is diving back and leaving the whole top half of the net open. Im not blaming Demko for the poor start but he has been a part of it for sure.Martin would get a few more games if i was coach. Faceoffs and I may be off on the stat here but defensive face offs especially to start the penalty kill seem down. We dont start with the puck and the other team gets possession right away. Thats why so many teams are scoring so quickly off the PK. I dont like Mike Yeo as a coach and he hasnt been successful anywhere that i know of, Why we hired him as an assistant i do not know. The D men are way too often out of position. Not just on the PK but way too often in the run of the play. They are trying to do too much. This has been the worst stretch of OEL we have seen. Despite his contract he has been ok as a D man. if he was making 4 mill no one would be complaining about his play. Myers has been a disaster. I keep looking for him to play a really good game but i cant think of one this season. Hughes is terrible defensively but thats not supposed to be his role. Stillman has not worked out. He may have a role to play but its not as an everyday player. Burroughs, Rathbone should play above him.If we are going to have a tire fire in our own end at least lets let the young guys play and gain some valuable experience. Up front Bo has been great. How we can think of not signing him is ridiculous. Miller has been a turn over machine. Garland has done little. Outside of Petey, Kuz and Mik the best line has been the fourth line. They constantly have the puck in the other zone and actually have contributed. im not sold on the line changes this season. They are not working for the most part. Petey with the two Russians is ok. Bo with Miller is a waste. Play Miller at center. You signed him to play the way he did last year yet you play him on the wing. I would play the lines up front like this Kuz Petey Mik Pearson Bo Boeser when healthy Podkolzin Miller Garland- i beliebve this is how they finished the year up last year and they looked pretty good together Joshua Aman Studnicka Lazar when healthy can replace Studnicka Hoglander does not make my team at this time he needs to play and play lots in Abby. as long as Garland is on this team Hoglander is not going to play. Too many small forwards. Theres a long way to go in the season. but starting in the hole every year is not a recipe for success
  13. Hughes is scared to get hit.... hes half the size of half the other teams roster. Burroughs has played well for what he is a 5/6/7 D man nice shot on the first goal though. OEL has been our best D man so far. Moved the puck well. Schenn exactly what you expect from him.plays above his contract again. Stilman has been a pleasant surprise. I think he has moved the puck well and actually hit a few people. Up front this team looks nothing like the team that finished the year last year and almost exactly like the team that started the year under Green. Cant score on the power play, gives up short handed goals. Cant kill a penalty. Its more of the same.If Jason King cant get it done fire his A$$. Thats been terrible. If one more guy tries to make a cross ice pass at the blueline they should sit for the rest of the game no matter who it is. I was concerned when we hired Yeo, hes been a loser in the NHL everywhere he has gone. Not a good look. Miller is so casual with the back passes and back checking its laughable. Horvat is either pouting or hurt. He has no energy and is nothing like the player we saw in the bubble a few years back. Boeser is not ready to play and missing camp again has stunted his play Petey and Garland have been great. if they hadnt been we would have been blown out both games. Pearson has shown up in both games. Kuzmenko looked good against the Oil but disappeared against the Flyers Podkolzin looks like he is trying but struggling to hold on to the puck Sadly the best line in yesterdays game was the fourth line. Lazar, Aman and Joshua were noticeable. And can they stop calling him Oman? Aman should sound a bit more like Ah-Man Demko left alone again on a few plays and the winning goal JT was the goat. no real effort to stop the puck and a perfect touch pass to Laughton for the winner.have to be better than that in front of the net. Now its only game 2, 80 to go and lots of time to figure it out but the early results have been scary. No more worries about a good start. We have started well.. Now its just a complete game they need to play.
  14. The power play looks awful. JT looks slow. The other teams have more goals on our power play than we do
  15. well that was fun wasnt it? The first period im not sure whether we had the jump or the Oilers werent ready. Special teams killed us again. How long did the Oilers take on three of their four power plays to score? not very long. We need better. Plain and simple. The PK was dreadful again. It wasnt Demkos fault especially on the winner where he made the first save but he could have been better. We needed a save on a couple of those goals. The Power play was sad. Not that it didnt move the puck well. we didnt finish...again. As bad as it was to give up the three goal lead, it was worse the way we played the second half of the game. We looked like a team at the end of a 5 game road trip not the beginning. Gassed. Miller and Horvat had breakaways that could have changed the game. Score on one of those it really changes the mix.The Kuz pass to Miller and im not really sure what happened there but usually thats in the back of the net. Score there and that changes the outcome.Too many power play shots with no one in front of the goalie. Kuzmenko looked great last night but if he is going to be on the Power play standing to the side and trying to deflect the puck isnt going to get it done in this league. Easy saves for Campbell when they hit him in the crest. Boeser playing his first game this year looked poor He definitely ran out of gas and looked super slow. He didnt bring the A game last night. Hopefully that gets better. Pettersson looks great, Kuzmenko looks as advertised. Podkolzin has to stop trying to go through everyone alone.Miller up and down. Like i said bury the breakaway and things look different. I thought OEL looked good. Schenn also.Stillman wasnt too bad from what I saw. The good Garland-Skated well all night looked dangerous a number of times Kuzmenko-made plays scored first goal. Miller let him down on the great pass. Petey looks ready for a good year OEL - looked good 5v5, The bad Miller-Scored a great goal then disappeared. Needs to be consistent. up and down. Demko-need better or this team will not compete Hughes- despite being high sticked has to be better defensively. Hoglander has to be a force or he will be in Abby once Mik gets back., invisible most of the game Pearson-two penalties, no goals Poolman, you are not Bobby Orr stay in your own end and play defense The power play. 1/8 and gave up another short handed goal. These kill your team. This has to be better The ugly Horvat. Looked slow and no emotion. No response for the hit on Hughes. Missed on the breakaway chance. 51% on faceoffs. Boeser,- i know its his first game but he has had all the excuses before. If he is going to be in the lineup he has to play better than that The penalty kill is atrocious. It doesnt seem to matter who we trot out we cannot kill penalties. this was the difference in the game ad one player will not fix it
  16. I predict 5-3 Canucks, Kuzmenko with the winning goal. Canucks surprise and start the year hot.
  17. Hard to give up a 2nd round pick to move Dickinson especially to a rival but picking up a depth defenseman that can hit and likes the rough stuff a bit is a bonus. Still man is not expected to be a top 4 D man. He will be 5-6 on most nights. He can step up and hit and fight also so it gives the Canucks that element but you dont really want to lose D men for 5 mins especially if you dont have great depth at the position. This however gives the Canucks a little more time with Rathbone if needed. The Injuries on D probably forced their hands. Dermott has concussion issues and thats never a good thing. Can often be career enders. Poolman has been all over the place with migraine issues as well.Somewhere along the way we have to find a RHD that can play top 4 minutes.whether through trade or development. Time is of the essence to support the current core.
  18. if there was ever an example of a must win in the preseason this is it,Need to prove we can beat these Coilers...lol
