[Report] Canucks announce coaching staff updates
Schmautzie replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Johnson is the one guy I hope is gone by the time the Canucks pick exactly because of his bust potential. I’m thinking McTavish is more of a can’t miss NHLer who would thrive in playoff style hockey. -

The more I see on McTavish the more I would love to see the Canucks draft him. Unfortunately I think his performance at the Under-18s will move him up most teams’ lists and he’ll be long gone before our pick. -
Oleksiak will be offered much more than 2.5 mill. per year. And I’d pick Laurent Brossoit as a UFA backup goalie that wouldn’t cost too much.

I’d like to see Appleton on the team as well although my first choice from the Jets would be Andrew Copp. Appleton would come cheaper though. Hopefully Miller wouldn’t sulk if he was demoted to the second unit. -

No I didn’t hear the interview but I’m reading all sorts of good things about him. He sounds like just the guy we need. -
So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?

My first choice for the Canucks at #9 would be Mason McTavish but I have a feeling he’ll be long gone by then. Svechkov is an intriguing prospect and Benning would have got a good look at him at the under-18s. Some scouts have compared him to Patrice Bergeron. -

I’d like to see Hoglander on the first unit as well. It’s too bad that Green didn’t try him there at the end of last season but I guess without Pettersson it wouldn’t have really been the true first unit at that point. But who comes off if Hoglander goes on? My choice would be Horvat. That would at least give us a legitimate PP centre on the second unit. -

I hope you’re right. I’m not sure if the Canucks rope-a-dope system in their own end is Green’s or Baumgartner’s but I’ll be happy to see the last of it. And it would be nice to apply some pressure to the puck carrier when on the PK instead of letting the opposing team set up and fire away at will. -
Many of us were immediately upset when Tyler Toffoli signed with Montreal instead of the Canucks and posted about it here. It’s not a question of being a Monday morning quarterback because we knew he would make the Canadiens a better team and we were proved right. Good players do good things. Especially in the playoffs. You on the other hand predicted that Montreal would lose to the Leafs specifically because of Toffoli’s poor play. Not only did he lead them over the Leafs but he was one of their top performers against the Jets. You appear to have blinders on when it comes to Toffoli which prevents you from seeing him in anything but a negative light.

Or maybe you got to be a clown to assume to know which twenty-one year old will have the better career. -
Craig Button had Boeser ranked #9 that year.

I was a Dobson guy too. Might still be too early to tell but I think JB made the right call with Quinn Hughes. -

YouTube has highlights of all the top prospects in this draft. -
Except you have to look at the opportunity cost of signing a backup goalie at $4.3 million per season. Spending that much on Holtby cost Benning the opportunity to sign Toffoli, who would have contributed more to the team than a backup goalie could.

Another guy who I hope may fall to us is Simon Edvinsson. He looks like a young Matthias Ohlund to me. He’d be a great replacement for the physicality we’re losing when Alex Edler moves on. -

Interesting to note that quite a few mock drafts I’ve seen have the Canucks taking Brandt Clarke at number nine. I think it comes down to Clarke or MacTavish, who reminds me of a more physical Bo Horvat. -

Trevor Linden once let it slip that Cale Makar would have been our choice over Pettersson if he was still available.
