  1. Honestly I'm with Jan on this one, I'd be pretty happy with who ever we take out of the top 12 or 13 prospects. They all seem pretty close this year as compared to other years. Obviously some will end up much better than others but I'll be pretty happy with any of them.
  2. For me it's Clarke, Guenther or Johnson then do everything possible to make sure we get Morrow in the 2nd (like we'd have any control over that but one can dream)
  3. Who says he's not protecting both?
  4. Don't remind me. Bad memories of the last time I saw him score a goal live...
  5. You're right, I'd also like to see Green take more risks and play the young guys more frequently. I have also been a vocal member of team Fire Green, even though I really do feel bad advocating for a person to lose their job, I mean, he is a real human being after all, I just am not convinced he is the right coach for our team (although it could simply be the assistants that need to go but that's a convo for a different thread). But to his credit he has been more than happy to play the young, high end talent in prominent roles. I just don't think Baertschi is a good fit on our team at this time. Yea, he is a better scorer than guys like Roussel, Beagle or Sutter and maybe even guys like Michaelis or Vesey but they bring an intensity in our own end of the ice that is sorely needed as, even if we had Baertschi, we aren't a team that can out score our problems. If this new story out of CA is an accurate portrayal of what happened I don't want him on our team anyway. There is a right way and a wrong way to react to being sent down. I'm very glad he has done so well in Utica and has been a consumate professional and mentor while down there but I can't wait for his contract to be up after this year so we can cut him loose and be done with all of this. I had high hopes when we brought him in and I wish him nothing but the best with where ever he signs his new contract but I'm not going to be concerned about him as an asset at this point as he clearly has very little actual value in the eyes of most GMs around the league. And if he proves me wrong and goes on the highly successful NHL career after this than good for him but it seems unlikely
  6. Since there seems to be some uncertainty here is the definition, from the DoPS site on nhl.com: What is a "Repeat Offender"? A Player is considered a repeat offender for 18 months following his most recent incident that resulted in a suspension. His status as a repeat offender in this category is used to determine the amount of salary forfeited should he receive another suspension. It is important to note that even if a Player is not defined as a repeat offender, his past history may come into consideration when determining future Supplemental Discipline.
  7. Fun Fact: After tonight's game, Nils Höglander, the 40th overall pick in the 2019 Draft now has the highest PPG of any player selected in that draft (minimum 15 games played) I know it's a small sample size but I think it really shows the tenacity, heart and intelligence this kid brings to our team.
  8. What is this, a mob movie? No it's reality and the reality is that on this team Roussel is a defensively reliable forward who is very good at killing penalties well also being very targeted by the refs. I remember watching a game not long before the break where Roussel was given 2 tripping penalties and in both the replays clearly showed he never touched the opposing player. He is also very overpaid which is why no other GM is willing to take him on his current contract. That was necessary because at the time with our team in the basement of the standings and no proven blue chip prospects (Pettersson hadn't played a game for us yet) it was the only way to attract a free agent. Now we use him almost as a coach to teach the new, young talent on this team what it takes to kill penalties then, when the youth is properly developed and ready to take over, we cut him loose after his contract expires next year. And, ummm, you're the only one calling him a "defensive star"
  9. Not to mention that he is our best penalty killer, and yes I'm including Motte in that statement.
  10. Who is your pick if we by some miracle we got the #1 pick. Do you go for one of the two favorites in Powers and Beniers? Maybe one of the Swedes Eklund and Edvinsson? The family connection of Luke Hughes? Or positional need and Cam Robinsons fave in Brandt Clarke? Or even slightly off board with a kid dominating the WHL averaging 2 pts/gm in Dylan Guenther? So many choices and it's going to be an almost total carp shoot.
  11. Yup. And nearly 37 million coming off the books over this off season and next. Right when guys like Lind, Gadj, Jasek, Woo, Podkolzin, Rathbone and even Höglander are ready to step in to support (or better) roles after being given time to properly develop and not thrown in to the fire with no support. Also when guys like Bo, Boeser, Petterson, Hughes and Demko are more developed and used to the highest competition and are ready to really lead a team. Almost like there was actually some kind of plan... Even if you don't like it.
  12. Right. Cause he's not a defensive liability at all. He's only -9 through 13 games, one off of the team worst and tied for 938/975 league wide, plays on a line where the other 2 players are + players and on a team that is even overall. I know that +/- isn't a great stat for overall player judgement but he was sent down because aside from recovering from injury, he needed to work on the defensive side of his game and 2 years later he still hasn't figured that part of the game out.
  13. Exactly. We got roughed up pretty bad with how front loaded the start of our schedule was. Not expecting much different of a result for the remaining games. This COVID put the team and players in a terrible situation, it is what it is, but maybe it works out by giving us a high pick in the draft and we end up snagging a couple more crucial pieces in the 1st and 2nd, and who knows how the late picks end up this year.
  14. Not sure how this is all going to work with the new, super compressed schedule. I could easily see us struggle and fall in the rankings but for now I'm going to go off points percentage which has us picking 8th.
  15. You're right it is technically possible to have him play for us this season, depending on the World Championship factor
  16. Yeah I'd be fine if Benning traded a 3rd, or heck, even Virtanen, if that's what it took to get Seattle to take Holtby
  17. That's a very fair point. Not sure how this is all going to play out in the short term but one thing I feel I can say with certainty, is that in the long term, it's going to be a pleasure watching him play on this team
  18. A no trade does not protect Pearson only a no movement. He has apparently been told by Benning that with his extension the team intends to protect him. I agree with your list, my protection for forward would be: Pettersson Boeser Miller Horvat Pearson (not my choice but apparently we are) Lind Gadjovich Virtanen and Motte would be the prime targets for forwards but hopefully they go with Holtby as he is one of the better (by reputation at least) goalies that would be exposed and able to handle a starter role
  19. Rathbone now up to 8 points in 7 games with his 2nd assist of the night
