If we keep Green, Jake needs to be traded for Jakes sake.

For those people who think Jake has been given every possible opportunity to succeed; do you pay attention, can you think for yourselves?

Why would you blame Green for Virtanen's subpar performance? Do you even watch the games? How about the number of young players successfully brought up by Green such as Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Hoglander. Boeser was in Green's doghouse for a while, but he performed and now he gets the 1st line shifts. We've seen Virtanen get 16-18 minutes a game some times. Gaudette on the other hand seems to be limited to no more than 11 minutes no matter how he played.

  2. Been a Benning basher for a while. But the moves he has made the past 2 years has been excellent. The last bad move being the Toffoli trade.

Pretty sure Benning was on a short leash to make the playoffs last year. This is why he went so desperate with the JT Miller + Toffoli trades: it cost us 1st + 2nd + 3rd + Tyler Madden; we basically lost a draft year with those 2 trades. Well we made the playoffs and did decently so I guess that has bought him 1-2 years more to show some results. I like the team we have now. Obviously crappy performance, which Benning/coaching needs to solve.

Neal was very good last year. Maybe he could be a replacement for Toffoli?

Yeah, what about his 5 million in salary? He wasn't very good last year, he was very good for the 1st half only...?

Still doesnt deserve a waiver imo, they'd rather ace Devin Shore than him.

So, you KNOW he is coming back?  Every time he came back he said he was fine, got into a fight and left.  It's not like anyone wants him to be hurt and unavailable, people want him to retire so he can enjoy his family and have a life after hockey.  Coming back could actually cost him his quality of life down the road.  You can't just expect him to come back and upgrade our lineup.

Never said he is coming back or I even want him to come back. Since this board is so desperate for something to shake this team up, I am suggesting Ferland coming back is the best bet to shake up the team with some energy. Of course he should be 100% healthy for this to even be considered.

  5. If everyone is already upset at the performances of players like Suter, Ericsson, Beagle, Roussel, why are we trying to add more of those types of players....?

If you guys are looking for some changes, seems better if Ferland comes back and bring some energy, driving the net and hitting to the game. Ridicious thing is more than half of CDC was calling out for this kid to retire the whole summer. Just the way this board is.

Blue Jackets need to relieve Torts as coach..I don't understand owner and managements thinking...Players have been leaving for years because of Torts..

Who would want a boss in your face like him every day..Imagine him in a work place beside his NHL job he would of been fired...

In a 2-2 tie bench your new superstar for 35 minutes???? Torts Such a strange guy, needs to be fired...

Dont be so hard on Torts man. I actually think he is a geniunely decent guy. Pretty sure Blue Jackets management buys into his style of hardnosed hockey, or else he wouldn't have stayed for this many years already. If Blue Jackets/Torts wins a Stanley Cup, he would suddenly look like a messiah with his coaching style. So it's really just perspective here.

Is it right to bench his superstars? Who knows. At least we know that Torts has the guts to do what he thinks its right. A huge but is Torts was absolutely crap here in Vancouver.

Would have been interesting to see what we could have got had we unloaded Demko. He was apparently the ask in the trade for OEL. If we had made that trade with Demko included would Arizona have taken Loui to balance the cap allowing us to sign Markstrom. I also thought the timing would have been right to use assets to unload cap. The leafs did it with Marleau a few years ago. Sometimes this is what must be done to stay competitive. I was hopefull the replacements could come in this year and we could remain competitive but so far the chemistry has not been there and we appear to have taken a step back.

Yeah keep dreaming. Arizona didnt even want to trade with us, they wanted to trade with Boston that's why the trade didnt go down. You think Demko can magically get you OEL and a Ericsson capdump? Keep dreaming buddy. May be if you add 2 1sts in there to make the trade fair.

What I never understood was the firing of Lawrence Gilman. I mean here you have a capologist that was responsible for building the 2011 Canucks who were cup finalist. A guy who allowed Gillis to do his thing. Yet we fire him for what? change of guards? On top of that we hire mediocre advisers like Weisbrod that have had history of boneheaded mistakes. Was Weisbrod here before Myers signing? I bet he had a big input if he was here before Myers signed with the team.

Benning's been firing anyone who doesnt align with him closely, you just noticed?

How much longer is ownership going to allow Torts abrasive attitude to chase out top players from the organization?  He's a fossil from another era and seemingly can't relate to today's stars.

Does anyone think Laine is going to change his attitude in CBJ with Torts riding his backside?

Jets win this trade.  Duby wanted to get away from Torts, not from CBJ.  Centermen like him are few and far between.

Blue Jackets have been competitive the last few seasons, gotta give him that.

Its honestly sad that the Habs are such a better team than us. On paper our defense is good, Hughes was supposed to be the best defenseman in Canada (or atleast top 3), and Miller/Pettersson/Boeser are as good, if not better, than most lines in Canada.

I feel like its a new team gelling. The defensive structure is struggling. And deficient complementary pieces are being exposed. But this is Pettersson & Hughes that need to step up. Horvat is doing his part, Miller has been a solidifying presence, Boeser has scored, but Pettersson needs to produce more. Hughes is a bit different as a defenseman, even in his bad games he still produces, but he needs to take it up a notch too.

Overhyping Hughes and Pettersson is not going to make us look any better. We just freaking played like a AHL team and Montreal walked all over us. And they are just an above average team at best.

Let's hope the team is just out of sync and this isn't some fundamental problem. If this continues, I think we may have a coaching change soon.

We almost won 3 rounds of playoff hockey and we're technically still in the middle of the rebuild. That put a target on our back. Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal haven't been able to win 2 rounds and they're considered further along in their rebuild. Toronto can't even win 1 round. Winnipeg and Ottawa have gone to conference finals but they're rebuilding. We're gunna get used as a measuring stick, all 6 of those teams are gunna bring their A game.  Might even be a rebuild year for us, winnipeg ade the playoffs and got laine the next year

Somehow if you hide behind the wall called "rebuild" then it is ok for the team to suck. Is this the koolaid that's being passed around here? Are you on some 10 year rebuild plan or something? Because we haven't been competitive since 2014 in my books. And how do you go on to call a build that's "rebuilding" who trades for a 6mil Schmidt, signs 30 year old Hamonic, signs 6x5 Myers, Ferland, and was actually competitive last season? You dont, because we are not rebuilding.

How do you manage to contradict yourself in the same paragraph? We are rebuilding, but is actually going on playoff runs?

  12. Goalies have ups and downs, I am actually not worried at all with Holtby and Demko.

Im also pretty sure the term and money wasn't the problem with signing Markstrom, it was the NMC, because we would have to lose Demko to Seattle. Given how he played in the playoffs, Benning was probably counting on Demko to be our goalie of the future.

Now, with our season thus far.... This young team has always had this problem. Some times we go on a roll and score a bunch of goals, some times we are flat with no signs of life. We actually saw this a bunch of times in the regular season last year. We may not even have played the playoffs last season..

Let's just wait and see. A bunch of teams have this problem too. In fact, the last 2 stanley cup champions also started out the regular season very poorly.
