I haven’t watched but on radio a few coaches have talked about how his skills/style as a C doesn’t translate well to being an NHL center.

and he’s being looked at / projected more as maybe a skilled winger.

this is what I’ve heard. But I also read/heard some scouts are very high on him so he could be very high on some draft boards.

True. He's supposedly in the same range, but as you said, he might get plucked early. I know i'll be happy with whomever we pick.

So when can Podz sign a contract with the Canucks?

If you go a few pages back, our resident Russian poster Stierliz said that he can be signed now. There is some confusion about what's happening to him now. Pod is apparently left off the roster, but is still going as a spare (according to Dhaliwal).

Some other posters have mentioned that Demko was given a lot of time to focus on his tournament before given a contract, which he really appreciated. Maybe this will happen with PodZ.

Canucks don't have a transition game... they don't have a game through the neutral zone and their entry game is 90% shoot it in with the occasional lone unsupported foray which usually ends poorly.

There is no puck support after entry and no system to distribute the puck after entry.

These are all Green's design... he simplifies the Canuck game to the point it is easy to predict and kill the limited offensive threats it produces.

The rare chances at even strength are generated by physical play along the boards and behind the net, but those most often result only in shots from the point... rarely do we see players gaining the area in front of the net in possession.

Last year the Power Play made up for a lot of the failures 5 on 5, but this year other teams took less penalties knowing if they avoided them they'd rarely see even strength goals scored against them.

Green's O-system is a 1 trick dog... not good enough for the sophisticated defenses other NHL level coaches can create.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with you Buzzsaw. I hate watching the mindless plays the players are directed to make, as well as the excessively cute passes in the defensive zone for breakouts. The PP is absolutely crap. I don't understand why/how the players are so hesitant to shoot. Also, i don't understand why Green's brand of hockey often (not always) involves getting heavily outshot. We saw this in the LV series, where he was obviously outcoached beyond oblivion, but Demko kept Vancouver in it.

I still don't get your point.

The rift would exist because Miller would have wanted the team to raise concerns on the safety of return to play but they didn't so he had to do it himself. In fact you went further to say owners probably did not want the players to say.

In doing so, he felt like the team didn't have his or the players' best interest at heart.

Anyway this is all speculation and probably not worth a debate as this is all a figment of my imagination lol

I don't know if you're deliberately ignoring what I just said, or not.

Lehner speaking to the media about the league not doing anything for the players, is a close comparison to what Miller said/did for his team. In both cases, the owners are in an awkward position. Notice how Las Vegas DID NOT release a statement either about what Lehner said.

LOOK AT THE ACTUAL LANGUAGE that Lehner used. Is this not worse than what Miller did or said?  FTR, I 100 percent support Lehner's perspective on this. I believe he has nothing to apologize for. He makes excellent points.

What does Lehner have to do with this?

I'm just saying from experience, when you manage a team and the team is getting shafted by the company, usually it's the manager that speaks out (on behalf of the team). An employee on a team doesn't do it unless they feel like management isn't doing their job. How many times have you heard praise from employees regarding their managers. Some common ones are, manager is super demanding but he/she always goes to bat for us.

For instance, there's a lot of managers that tow the company line and relay the company directives in a softer way to the employees. Employees than listen to the manager and decide whether they too want to tow the company line and still work under the manager (Becuase he/shr has other good qualities) or decide that they no longer want to work for said company.

If the latter, those managers then lose the trust of some employees and they seek employment elsewhere.

I've seen it happen in the workplace and it's not farfetched to believe it happens in other places like hockey too.

Who knows, it might be Miller that wants out.

That's exactly what my point is. A player speaking out from what the owners may probably not want the players to say. Lehner praised the league for some good things, but he also said that they should have done more about mental health.

Having a player on the team call out the league for bull$&!# (Lehner) is far worse than what Miller said. And yet we are still having a discussion about the so-called 'rift' of management and players.

Well if you want to be more specific it seems the a lot of people is everyone. When folks from the other side of the coast also have gotten word of Vancouver's reputation (Tim Micallef comes to mind) it's not just a "local thing" anymore

So who's his source? They are most likely relying on local media.

This is a game of telephone. If you repeat a story many many times, it becomes 'true'. The media is a JOKE. They are here to sell stuff, or get their 'name' in. Notice how a report like Dhali went from respected insider to gossip teller? The industry is a lot dirtier than we acknowledge it to be.

The media DOES NOT necessarily report truth.

Do you think it was right that Miller spoke up instead of Benning or ownership?

He literally had to talk about players feeling like their safety was being neglected before the league did anything.

I'm a fan of Benning and how he's built the team with great young talent

He has been very quiet though on anything contentious

This might be a good thing in the long run as guys like MG and Burke may have burned some bridges but I'm just speculating (pure speculation) on why a player may want out.

I think Miller did the right thing to speak out. Ownership doesn't really have control. You can see how ownership was fined for speaking out against the league. I would assume New York will not be in the league's good graces, but that owner is MASSIVELY rich. Much richer than Aquilini. I don't fault ownership for not saying anything.

We've also seen Robin Lehner say stuff. Las Vegas didn't make any statement condoning Lehner either. So what do you say about that?

I wonder if Benning being extended has anything to do with it.

Maybe they didn't think he had their backs when the schedule first came out.

You know Burke would have raised hell.

And then when covid decimated the team, Miller had to speak out.

My guess is that some players lost respect for Benning as a yes man to the league and didn't have their best interest.

Again all speculation with zero facts lol

If this is true, why is Vancouver always get shafted by the league? You would think that Vancouver would gain favourable standing with the league.

This "yes man" narrative is a load of horse$&!#.

If it was normal than why is this being reported by the media?

Also it seems consistent with what a lot of people in the media have been saying about the Canucks .. that the reputation of the organization is really bad right now.

And not a lot of people wants to stay in a organization with a bad rep

Do you have the media reports from other teams? Particularly non-playoff teams? Until you do, there is no way you can extrapolate the situation as them being unhappy about a GM. That is a significant leap in logic.

"A lot of people in the media" - a lot of people in the media were either reporting/passing on reports that Hughes was on IV too.

"A lot of people" sounds very vague. We do not know any information, and whatever the media reports should always be taken with a grain of salt.

I feared this might happen. I got trashed here for considering this as a possibility someone even called me Qanon supporter for bringing this up earlier in the season

So don't say I didn't warn anyone here.

No one's ever going to be happy at one point or another in a company. Look at the other teams. How many of them will want trade requests from CBJ, with or without Torts? Without any context, asking for trade requests is pretty normal. It doesn't necessarily mean it will happen either.

And honestly, some trade requests have nothing to do with the 'performance of a GM'. It's silly to think that people want to change their entire living situation because of a GM who underperformed the past 7 years. It's absolutely silly.

People have families too, and maybe a move away from Vancouver is something that has already been in the works. These scumbag reporters are misconstruing the reports.

    Well... mercifully, it's over.

I've got my thoughts about the management group but all due respect to the players and coaches. They were handed a crap card this year - especially the coaching staff. Next year will either be better and the team will be playoff bound, or we'll get another high pick and be rid of this amateurish management team and on to better things. Either way, win-win.

Really? You really still think that coaches don't have a responsibility in this?

Exact same system as last year. Big differences. The departure of certain players isn't a persuasive enough of a case - case in point, Calgary. How about considering that the coaching (this includes the assistants) is subpar?

LOL. You would rather stand by Jim &^@#ing Benning than support the players?? Bro that is sad. Players are allowed to be unhappy with management and ownership. Especially how they were treated by the NHL and management during the outbreak.

Why are you making this talk more divisive than it needs to be?

Does Kapean put out this kind of player rebellion non sense. Trades and contract talk are one thing that I can see players leaking to the media cause it has a purpose to their negotiations. This kind of non sense really are not what any player want to get out of the room.

K, I will get on board if we agree Drance talked to Loui  ;)

We need to weed out the unethical reporters that are spreading these "gossip" mill stuff from our fanbase. I agree. It serves no one any purpose to have a player whine about his situation to the media like that. Completely unprofessional.
