  1. Jake Virtanen with 10 points in 11 games (3g 7a) after missing an entire summer of training due to shoulder surgery and rehab... is just fine in my books.

Also, he's only played in 11 games. He has nearly the same Pts/g clip (0.91) as the teams top scorer, Adam Tambellini who has 21 points in 20 games (0.95).

I'm more concerned with Virtanen regaining his timing, and if he can manage a near 1.00 pts/g clip while doing so then that's a bonus. Once everything lines up for him (hopefully by the WJC) he will start to dominate the WHL once again.

Next season we should see a huge rise in his point totals (which at that point, as an overager is to be expected), the key is him working on his consistency. No multiple games between getting points, etc.

Jake's just fine, and in 2-3 I expect him to be fully ready to play for the Canucks on a full time basis, which by that time the Sedins will be our bonafide 2nd line.

next season he will be 19, which is NOT an overager.... overagers are kids eligible to play in the ahl (20 by dec 31st of that season), but are returned or continue to play in the chl.

  2. Love CDC jumping off the boat and assuming our prospects are bottom 6 players :D Gotta love the positives of this!

don't worry, 5 good games and they'll be back, stronger than ever, proclaiming he's the next one.

  3. I think it goes by age rather than seasons because in the OHL some are given the "exceptional player status".

For example, John Tavares had already played 4 season in the CHL going into his draft, but it's not like he would have been eligible for the AHL if he didn't make the NHL right away that year.

its both. the earlier of age 20 on dec 31st of that season, or 4 years in the chl, but kids who get the exceptional status are typically in the nhl already before the 4 years are up.

  4. Can anyone comment as to a scenario where we keep him up the full year, thus burning a year off his ELC followed by sending him down to the AHL the following year? Will he have to clear waivers and if he is playing the second year in the AHL does that also burn an additional year off his ELC?

as soon as his contract uses up a year it can no longer be deferred and will continue to use up years no matter where he plays, even if he were to be sent back to the chl as an overager for some reason.

  5. seagull

I got kicked out of a game for fighting with my own teammate when I was 8....he started it.

did you grow up in saskatchewan? because the same game i scored 5 goals in one shift the 2 d-men got in a fight with eachother and they were both kicked out.... it was hilarious.

  6. No, now everyone's complaining that our defensively responsible, face off winning, even+/- 4C that has pretty constantly made smart plays to push play forward isn't scoring hatty's every shift.

i once scored 5 goal in a single shift...

the highlight of my hockey career as a 7 year old

  7. I think everyone can agree he doesn't look out of place. The thing with horvat is, we don't exactly need him unless he can put up some offence. We don't exactly have the luxury of time with him either so that's why people want him sent down.

will horvat's replacement be racking up the points? if not then why would that matter? how about if his replacement will keep up his FO percentage? because if he doesn't then it actually hurts the canucks to send him down.

  8. Lazar is 0-3-3 in 14 games and the Sens have burned half a year of his entry level contract. How much you want a bet he sees time in Binghampton next year.

how do you burn half a year of a elc? that's not a thing

  9. with our lack of defensive depth, i doubt he sees a better opportunity worth his time/risk of going UFA. it could end up biting him in the ass, plus the canucks have been developing their relationship with him, and helping him develop his game, telling him what to work on, etc. plus you have the stigma of being a diva when you pull that stuff. there's a big reason the vast majority of ncaa players don't pull this stuff, it's usually not worth the risk.

  10. Hope he doesn't pull a Justin Shultz on the Nucks.

hutton went right into university after the draft, he's not eligible to pull a shultz. he's going to have to wait until August 15th if he wants to go UFA, about a month and a half after the feeding frenzy of free agency, which lowers the incentive significantly.

  11. Ok let's got through the list, Kassian may be better than Horvat offensively, but it's not like he's lighting it up with his mere 4 points in 13 games. Ppl like to point out his line mates when the reality is Richardson and Matthias have both been playing much better and with significantly more effort out there. Defensively, we all know Kassian is a black hole so let's just leave it at that. Kassian also takes a ridiculous amount of penalties which will cost us some games over the course of an 82 game season. He's already got 24 friggen penalty minutes. I mean that's just face palm worthy right there.

Oh but hey he's a funny guy with a wacky personality so that makes him totally awesome right?

Anyway back to Horvat. I think he can end the season with 20 points if he's given the ice time. That along with his stellar defensive play would be quite a successful first season

it's the second part of that sentance that people think is crazy... you know... " but that won't happen given the circumstances of the Kassian trade"... that part.

the current GM doesn't care about the circumstances of a trade that the previous gm made. he doesn't need to save face for the previous regime.

  12. We should use one of Lack or Markstrom along with our 1st to move up at the draft if there is a team that needs goaltending in the draft range we would like to pick in.

Preferably Lack starts playing well and we move him.

OR if lack has a horrible year and he is able to be snuck down through waivers like was markstrom this year.
