not if we can't move contracts

We got lots of bad contracts expiring over the next few seasons, I think Myers is arguably our only long term contract that could turn out iffy and he’s very movable if he continues the way he’s played but the eriksson Baer sutter beagle contracts are all gone by summer 22 along with the Luongo penalty lots of room for resigning our stars to promotions and then roster spots for our prospects

I think ownership understands ,  that we wont be trading hog and podz or any young players for a rental  ,  we  maybe  make a few minor tweaks  or JB somehow brings trymkin over but it not going to be a big splash

I sure hope so! I Am so uncomfortable with our ownership but maybe they have more faith in benning than they had with past gms, would be nice to see if we have some playoff performers in our young lineup before losing assets to acquire just that, a healthy fresh ferland would be a great addition with the hopes of tryamkin would resolve a physical push back im a little concerned about

we just need to stay the course, we just don't have cap space to do any deals , unless we trade a stetcher  or baer etc  .definitely won't be  tanev  traded if we are in the playoff hunt

I completely understand ive seen teams get creative in making cap space in the past Tho, I am personally hoping what your saying and stay the course but I could see pressure on benning from ownership

  4. We got 14 games left if I did my math right before the deadline. To hold onto first what record would you all guess we need in those 14? I’m saying 10-4 - 9-5 will be right in there.... the reason I’m bringing this up is if we are in first at trade deadline does this make us serious buyers? also a desirable location to lift NTC for the big fish available? or does this management maybe just add some depth and stay on course and see what this young group has when playoffs arrive and fill in the gaps during summer months and prospects in our system?

Taking less money to go to a legit contending team is not always a guy who just doesn't want to be somewhere.

I dunno I think he had a good thing going with Hughes a real chance at proving himself as a top 6 nhl dman after failing with multiple teams And he made a bad decision to leave don’t see why we reward him a spot on our roster over guys that showed they wanted to be here and have been part of this turn around this year

  6. i Was just digging through our 2019 draft and noticed this kid is looking very strong in the numbers category read some of the comments above.... is this kid another gaud/madden in the making? Very cool to see he’s over a point a game with a slow start to the season in his first 6 he had 1 point is that correct? Looked up gaud for comparison in his draft Follow up year and he seems to actually have better numbers or am I missing something? Sorry for all the questions I’m trying to dig but frustrating myself that’s why I’m here asking for some clarity thanks!!

It was really interesting listening to Kes and Juice talk on their podcast about how much pressure there is from agents and especially the NHLPA not to take discounts. Apparently one of them (Kesler maybe?) mentioned a home town discount in an interview once and got a call from the NHLPA saying not to talk about that to the media. Explains why discounts are more rare than you'd think they'd be.

Yah I heard that podcast and it totally makes sense and it’s one thing to come out and say it but virtanen leaving 10-20% is not the same as Mackinnon leaving 10-20% there won’t be eye brows raised on a guy that had a second half breakout in his what 5th? NHL season... it’s just a player being smart about not throwing the nhlpa under the bus. Again tho it’s just my thoughts I have no idea what Jake wants it’s more just me having high hopes he’s part of our core on a cap friendly contract haha

I've been thinking about this too. It really depends on how he finishes. I do think he'll be going for a full deal and not a bridge. If he does score 47 points like he's projected to, I'm guessing he gets a 2-4 year deal at probably $3.5M to $4.5M depending on length--the longer, the more expensive. That said, if he slows down (as most players do as the season lags on) and drops to maybe 35 or 40 points, we're probably looking more at $2.5-$3.5M.

Feel like the one thing we do got going for cap reasoning is the fact that (completely just my opinion here) he’s a home town boy and wants to be part of this dynasty Potential team and knows he’s only part of it if he takes a team friendly deal

Hoglander reminds me of Marchand without the cheapshots, rat face, and slewfooting

Haha he was suspended this year for a cheap elbow but I don’t see him as a coward like march, he’s more Gallagher like in that in your face with the odd dirty move here and there, the kinda guy you hate but love to have on your team I get the feeling we will see the odd crossing the line with this kid I’m sure he will mature out of it like “most” do and find the line to walk on I would love to see another guy as annoying as rousell is to play against and be good enough to be pushing that 18-22 mins a game putting up numbers well doing it... exciting times guys exciting times

  10. I see the hate on here towards drafting Russians because of the past but it is not fair to judge benning on picking Russians as he has not had a failed high pick towards a Russian yet and there is a chance that tree and pod end up being key pieces to this team,  I’d say his only really bad blunder has been Juolevi so far and it’s not like he could have predicted these injury’s that set him back a year or 2 now.... maybe jake as well but it’s not like ehlers or nylander are superstars that make me pissed off there not on our team the other 2 options majority wanted at that pick. IMO tkachuk is the only real hindsight we missed big on

  11. Babcock couldn’t make a superstar loaded team succeed what makes people think he would here? I mean green is on thin ice yes but under a healthy roster green has shown great results maybe it’s a little unfair to blame him for the recent hiccups and we at the least owe him this season to prove himself in his early coaching career. Hockey has changed a lot since Babs was a jack adams caliber coach and you hear a lot of negative comments on past players playing for him I dunno if I’m sold,

also for anyone that needs a laugh go read commadors tweets today hilarious!!

  12. Feel like islanders are a very solid team but varlamov is not a number 1 goalie, as much as I love marky I’m beginning to feel super confident in demko taking the reigns, this probably won’t be a very popular suggestion but the thoughts of having ferland rousell and clutterbuck on our team is dreamy.... so here is my proposal

    Van:

    markstrom 3.67

    Pearson 3.75

    gaudette .916

    NYI:

    Greiss 3.33

    Beauvillier 2.1

    Clutterbuck 3.5
