  1. Erkay, your point that fourth liner have an important role on our team is well taken. And a strong fourth line of Highmore, Motte and Lammy has proven to be a real asset for the Canucks this year. But it is also important to remember the price we paid to obtain each. Adam Gaudette got us Highmore, an aging Thomas Vanek got us Motte and Olli Joulevi got us both Lammy and Juelson. In none of these trades were the Canucks required to give a core player to augment the quality of our fourth line. Useful, effective fourth liners are out there to be had. It’s up to our scouts to identify them and management to bring them to Vancouver. So let’s save Boesser for a trade that will bring back pieces who will solve our Rhd issues or replace Boesser in a top six role.
  2. But that assumes that JTto resign with us. He has a number of good reasons to sign with a competitive American team ( tax situation, playing in his own country, better contract because the team is not cash strapped like the Canucks, a more competitive team) You suggest that 9 x 5 would work, but he will undoubtedly earn a contract longer than five years. Frankly, I think a contract for longer than five years would be detrimental to the club’s future. We would be paying JT an inflated amount of money even after he had reached his “best before date”.With JT we would be competitive, but certainly not cup contenders. We were in the same situation with Markstrom and Tanev, who we kept to remain competitive and ended up losing both assets with no return. Perhaps if we had traded both of them for prospects who filled the team’s needs we would be in a much better position. Let’s learn from our mistakes. Let’s not lose JT for nothing, let’s sell when the return will be at its highest. I am sure JR knows what Jt has in mind regarding resigning. If he thinks he will sign for a reasonable term and cost, he will choose not to trade him. But if he feels JT has plans to go elsewhere when his current contract ends, he will make every effort to move him for the best possible return.
  3. WHL Rocks. No link, just typed in New Jersey Fan Forum and started reading comments about Zacha. Comments about Severson being a disaster in his own end were plentiful as well.
  4. I just took a quick look through the Devil’s fan forum and the consensus seems to be to ship out Zacha and that anything they received in return would be a bonus. Not many Zacha fans on the board.
  5. Shayster, if this was the first time he made such a post, I wouldn’t be so upset. Unfortunately it is a pattern. The last time he sent me a “politely negative” post, I explained that I spend most of my time in bed with terminal pancreatic cancer and my entertainment options are few. This time I wasn’t so polite. If I choose to post something in the midst of my confinement, it is my right to do so. I don’t need anybody’s permission and I frankly think his response, while “polite”, it was unwarrented. If someone doesn’t like the topic, they don’t need to read it. I think it’s simply a case that VC and I have too much time on our hands.
  6. Vegas Canuck, if you can’t add anything positive to a topic, don’t bother posting. Nobody is impressed in the least with your perpetually negative attitude. I hope your friend(s) don’t find you as tedious and repetitive as I do, but I’m sure they do. Come up with your own post, when/if you ever have anything worthwhile to say and see if it generates the activity that mine do.
  7. My argument has merit. Please tell that to my wife! Jan, I have enjoyed reading your posts for quite a while and recognize the passion and insight you bring to the topics you either initiate or discuss. Keep posting, but I have to go read to the grandkids now. Good night.
  8. We look at the same set of facts, focus on different aspects of these facts and agree to disagree. There is nothing absolute about my conclusions, it’s just an opinion I have formed with the facts and information I have at hand. There are probably a few things we do agree on - we are both Canucks’ fans and want the team to make out like bandits in any trade they make. If a team can’t or won’t offer the assets which we require to improve our team, they won’t get the asset they are seeking from us. Would I demand Schneider in a trade for JT MIller.? Absolutely!!. If the Rangers won’t budge, find another trading partner or retain the asset. It is my considered opinion as a fifty year Canucks fan, who can still remember Barry Wilkins’s first goal against Dennis DeJordy at the Pacific Coliseum,, and a reasonably informed hockey fan, that Schneider i not leaving New York and the offer of the apology if I am wrong still stands. BTW, I have been in Mexico for the last six weeks and I can assure you that there is nothing to be gained by talking about what comes out of my arse.
  9. aGENT, Bob McKenzie was quite definite that Schneider was not on the table for the Eichel trade. If they wouldn’t include Schneider in the trade for a potential franchise player in Eichel, they are not going to include him in a Miller package especially with Fox out and Schneider doing well as a second pairing defenseman. So maybe I know more than you give me credit for. If the Canucks and Rangers do make a trade for Miller and Schneider is part of the return package, I will apologize to you on this forum. Just don’t count on it.
  10. New York is not including Schneider in a package for JT Miller. He was not an option in the Eichel trade and he is not an option now. I think that virtually all Ranger fans would be opposed to a Miller for Schneider trade straight up if Schneider was even available. Lundquist maybe.
  11. Hi Kilgore. When I say fans could well be disappointed with the return for Miller, I am thinking of the unrealistic proposals and expectations of some Canuck fans. I think JR will do fine with any trades which are made. I think that he will be able to create cap space and fill in some holes with the incoming players, but those people who think Miller will net us Kappo, Lafreniere and Schneider will be disappointed. Check out the fan forum sites of some other teams and you will see that their valuation of potential trade candidates is dramatically different than you read on this site. Don’t get me wrong, I have been a fan since Barry Wilkins scored the Canucks’ first goal against Dennis DeJordy. I want JR to improve the team as much as possible with any upcoming trades, I have just tempered my expectations somewhat. I think that’s a wise course of action, but I would be happy to be pleasantly surprised with the return.
  12. Spook007, Thank you. I appreciate your good wishes. Life won’t be as long as I anticipated, but it has been a great ride nonetheless.
  13. Fan in Mexico and VegasCanuck: I am stuck in bed with terminal pancreatic cancer so my entertainment options are few. I thought I had something to add to the forum so Iposted. You both chose to take issue with my post which is certainly your right. I was posting my informed opinion which you neither needed to read or respond to. I don’t think your posts added anything to the conversation. Perhaps you, like me, have too much time on your hands. I am also a fan in Mexico.
  14. I think JR knows something for certain that most Canuck fans can only speculate on. I don’t think that Vancouver will be JT Miller’s first choice when it comes time to sign his next contract. My opinion is that he will probably prefer to sign with an American team. So what do we do with JT in the meantime. A number of Canuck fans feel that we are close to being a playoff team this year, so we will need all of the intangibles that JT brings to the team. Next year, let’s assume that we will again be in the playoff hunt and our chances would be much improved with JT on the team, so we keep him. When all is said and done, JT walks and doesn’t resign. Now we are in the same position as we were when Tanev, Markstrom, Stetcher and Toffoli left for cap reasons and WE GOT NOTHING IN RETURN WHEN THEY LEFT. So I think JR will choose to sell high and get the max return for JT while he is still in his prime and we still have some leverage. i really doubt that Schneider, Carlo or Boldy are coming our way. I get the sense that other teams are unwilling to part with prime young assets for JT’s services. While Canuck fans are thinking Schneider, Chytl and a first is a fair return, I think the Rangers will be unwilling to part with Schneider or even Lundquist in a trade. I think we will harvest a good supply of picks and prospects which will fill two of JR’s requirements, create cap space and restock our prospect pool. This definitely means that no big contracts will be coming back in trade. One fan’s opinion.
  15. The Canucks are looking to create cap space and restock our prospect pool with any upcoming moves, so I seriously doubt Rutherford is interested in taking back any expensive contracts.
  16. If Barzal isn’t coming back, then Petey is not going to the island.
  17. I recognize that JT Miler is a team leader and one of the most productive Canucks this season. His scoring touch, sandpaper playing style and energy that he brings to the team is undeniable. That saiid, however, I am very much in favour of trading him while his value is so high. The Canucks are a young, improving team, but to think that they are capable at this point of making a deep run in the playoffs, is extremely hopeful. When JT’s current contract runs out the Canucks will be left to decide to resign him or left him walk for nothing as a free agent. If the decision is made to resign him, he will be looking for a massive payday (one poster suggested it might be as high as 8x8.5million). Can we afford this and will he be worth the money towards the end of his contract?. Why not trade him now when his value is at its highest? Other posters have suggested Miller as the centerpiece of a trade for a package of young talented players like Schneider, Carlo, or Boldy. I think this is the more logical solution. We save money, unless we have to take on some deadwood to equalize the capHit, we plug some holes in the roster, we get younger and we won’t have to complain about the exorbitant amount of money we have to pay JT in the declining, less productive years of his next contract.
  18. While I am not a fan of any team other than the Canucks, I invariably cheer for a Canadian based team rather than an American based team.
  19. There is absolutely no chance that your proposal could come to fruition. The Rangers don’t want what you are proposing, a group of tweeners and a third round pick. I am not even sure that the Rangers would swap Schneider, who they moved up in the draft to select and who they consider to be a stud dman with a long future in New York, for JT Miller straight up. Schneider is not going anywhere until the Rangers receive an offer that captures their interest and provides key pieces that they need for both the present and the future, your proposal doesn’t even come close to meeting that criterion. Would you have accepted that package for Podkolzin last year while he was still playing in Russia? I’m certain that the Rangers feel that Schneider has a much higher ceiling than Podkolzin does. Rangers chuckle, thank you for calling and hang up.
  20. It really doesn’t matter what other teams want from the Canucks, the issue is what are they prepared to give up to get what they want. If the Rangers want Miller, I am all for the trade as his trade value will never be higher and moving him for quality younger, less expensive pieces will help cap wise. But the return has to be one that benefits the Canucks. If the Rangers don’t want to pony up Schneider +, they don’t get Miller. It’s pretty simple. We thank them for their interest and then we hang up.
  21. I am really put off by Petterson’s lazy play on defense. He just doesn’t seem to want to get involved. Likewise, Boeser seems to be just going through the motions in both zones. He is one dimensional and I would be extremely hesitant to give him the money he will be asking when his contract expires. Miller plays with fire in his belly every game. This is the kind of guy you want on your team. We are a soft team as it is and losing Miller would just make the situation worse. I agree with the Islanders dumping a contract like Clutterbuck’s to make the money work.
