a lot less cap for now. I can imagine something along the lines of the Mikheyev deal being inked if he can sustain this through January. But should still come in well under BB's current deal.

I see a few options brewing if they do want to move on from Brock.

Yes I agree we will have better idea after 40 NHL games how good Kuzmenko really is..

    Mikheyev - speed, skill -- GP 75 - G 20-- PTS 48

Kuzmenko -Skill--            GP 75-- G 18- 22 -PTS 38-44 - First NHL season will have adjustments with travel etc..

Severson told the media today, as relayed by James Nichols of The Fourth Period, that contract talks between him and the Devils have not yet begun. That doesn’t mean that a deal won’t get done between now and next summer, of course, but with the signing of Dougie Hamilton, the recent Jonas Siegenthalerextension, the acquisition of John Marino, and the eventual arrivals of Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec, it’s definitely possible that the Devils don’t see room for Severson long-term in their top-four.
    • The Philadelphia Flyers issued a few injury updates today, as reported by NHL.com’s Bill Meltzer. Per the update, both Artem Anisimov and Carter Hartare dealing with lower-body injuries, and Cam Atkinson is dealing with an upper-body ailment. All are officially day-to-day. While these injuries don’t seem likely to have any major impact on Hart or  Atkinson, an injury could pose an issue for Anisimov, who is in Flyers camp on a PTO and is battling for a roster spot.

Severson 28, 6'2 RD will be a UFA next summer at age 29? Making 4.1 million this year and had  46 point last season..

Will demand at lest 6 million X 6 yrs next summer if not more? I think Vancouver will go after a younger RD with trade and possibly signed?

That starting offer of 5 from MGMT has to be nothing more than a gross rumour. Consider what Ilya M just signed with us and Bo is much more proven over his NHL career, is our captain and a C to boot.

I highly doubt MGMT would start with a 5 when offering a contract renewal to Bo. For me, Bo should come in around 6.5-7per. But we shall see. Bo knows he has value. It will come down to whether he wants to stay in Van, or cash in as much as possible. JT made his choice and picked Van. Let's see if Horvat does the same.

I agree Canucks would not offer Horvat less then he makes now? Low ball offer would be like 6 million..

AAV should be 6.6 -- 6.8 million... Maybe front load contract ..

Still feel deal will get done before October 15th..

After the dismal first few months of last year, this is kind of the mindset isn't it?

We're all going to be on edge I'm sure.....

    1. Calgary 2. Edmonton 3. Vancouver 4. LA Kings.... Don't get discourage if Calgary beats us this season..

    Rank Calgary..           Vancouver Ranking

    Forwards 10th.                    Forwards  7th

    Defence - 5th                      Defence.   16th

The projected roster will need more NHL players? Isn't there a rule 11-12 NHL players in exhibition games?

This projected roster has 7 and I am counting  Burroughs, Juulsen Keeper. The only regular NHL players are Dickinson, Lazar, Hoglander, Dermott.

Another tough question we have to ask is, with Petey extension next year and Miller signed long-term, our 1C and 2C is set for the next half decade. Is it worth spending that much on a 3C?

Bo Horvát is a #2 centre  on most teams. He will  score  25--30 G -- 55--62 points-- 57% face-off circle, Solid 200 foot. guy..

Very lucky to have 3 top notch centres..

I sure hope Horvat can be signed for cap hit AAV 6.6--6.8 million X 7 years..

I do agree at some point you have to say no to Horvats contract if over 7 million?

Petey 2 years needs new contract

    Podkolzin 2 years contract

    Hoglander 2023

I have been wondering about Keeper

have you seen him play this camp

    how's his skating?

I think he has had a decent camp. The NHL scrimmage games will be the real test. I would think Keeper is in range 7---10, see how it plays out..

    Burroughs....Why don't we need him?

Just listening to talk radio/pod and it seems like Burroughs may be headed to the waiver wire.

    Uh....why?

I realize we have brought in DeKeyser on a PTO, and have to give him a shot.  And with Dermott and Poolman healthy, its difficult to fit him in.  But dang, this organization has a history of undervaluing defensive defensemen.  And how many times do we wish more Canucks would step up and defend his teammates like Burroughs does?  He had 122 hits and 52 blocked shots in only 42 games.  Face it, offense isn't his strong point but he had more points in 42 games, with limited ice time, than Poolman got in 40.

I think Schenn was happy to have another physical teammate to take the load off of him as the teams tough only real tough guy.  But more than that, I thought Burroughs also was one of the better D in zone exits, which I  thought was to be valued more this season.

He's still young enough, as a D, to improve with more ice time.  I'll be sad if they dump him off to another team.  Another player who's value far exceeds his cap hit, thrown out the door.  I thought he'd be great continuing as a 6th D.  Using him more depending on the physical nature of the opposition. And save the cap $ for a real upgrade to help Quinn.

Have you seen Brady Keeper 6'2, 205 lbs play, so aggressive.. He was so unfortunate to have serious injury and miss all of the season last year.. Fans will like his game,.

It's 25 yrs apart, but I've long felt there are parallels between Bo & Trevor Linden. Solid guys..but a little bit white bread for excitement. Thrust into early 'C'aptaincies for bottomed-out, rebuilding squads.

Around TL, Pat Quinn built a brawny, vet-laden crew, who stumbled into a superstar. JB didn't emulate that with vet FA's, but he did draft us some fine top talent, in several key positions. His larceny of Miller is almost on par with Quinn's 2, early 90's heists on Ron Caron & the Blues. OEL/Garland is a subjective venture, that still has potential to pay off handsomely, or leave an albatross behind.

We have a cap ceiling now to think of, Quinn likely was dealing with a fanbase, patience-ceiling they hit, after 2 decades of franchise-mediocrity. Three decades back(about 1992) there was a comparable sense of urgency for significant progress, to what we're feeling about now.

Creative destruction? We would've gotten 15-18 brilliant seasons from TL, an excellent draft pick. Yet that late 90's deal, led to about 3 decades of numerous, big-time, contributing assets. If Bo has the same cachet today around the league, as TL had in the late 90's, it's understandable to weigh options. If there's a Milbury-esque fool willing to squander young, key assets, history should be considered.

edit: Additionally, TL was Quinn's gem/baby, he'd likely never deal away. After Keenan parachuted in, there was no nostalgic sentiment.

Similarly, JB leaned on Bo from their beginning. Now we have another fresh, new GM...

Linden trade was a fantastic trade for Vancouver....Burtuzzi - McCabe - 3rd pick -- McCabe was key in getting the twins and we seen how that turned out--Bertuzzi was a fantastic power forward for years.. Great trade..

Linden's was on down slide right time to make that trade..

    Hogz is a keeper.

All those ppl wanting to trade him and guys like Rathbone... Sheesh

Been a big fan of his no quit attitude. He's so good on the forecheck. I thought he was a quick player already as is. I'm curious how fast he is now.

If his 2 way game comes along, he'll be a better version of Gallagher

I am sure glad we have Hoglander in Blue.. Hoglander 21--5'10 - 185 lbs -- so much skill and speed and every team want speedy players like this and only 21 yrs old.. Bright future keep this talent in Vancouver --

    Podkolzin  also only 21 and he will have a big season 6'1 -208 lbs look for a very good season.. GP-75 - G 20 - PTS 46

I guess I don't see much choice.... I'd have to run the math, but whats the lowest # minutes Dermott-Myers could be put out there, 17-18?

I guess it depends on which F group is on the ice at the same time as them, if its a highly defensive shift maybe a F can come back to help.

    I'm grasping.

The second pairing D men will get more then 17 minutes.. Myers on second unit and PK he will log at least 21--23 minutes minimum..

His partner would log at least 19 --21 minutes

It's woefully inadequate to me for a playoff team unless guys seriously overperform. If Dermott has a career year, he's probably a #4 guy, but it's probably very optimistic to assume he'll do that well. Myers is an acceptable 3/4 I think and Schenn was a solid #5 last year, but I'm not sure if we can expect him to continue playing so well. Rathbone is a huge wildcard and might not even be NHL-level yet. All AHL indications say he should be, but we've seen guys get stuck at the AHL  superstar level before.

If we get career years around the board from our bottom four, it's a pretty good d-core, but I think that would be unreasonably optimistic.

Great post I agree with you. The wild card Rathbone is so talented with elite skating he will become a #4 D man this season. That being said starting out as the # 6 for the first 45 games is great..

I’ve had a pretty great summer.
    BUT

Its finally starting to hit me………

I miss hockey and I’m ready for the season.

Im surprised with the line up.

I didn’t think we’d have Miller, and I really hoped for a big improvement on the blue line.
Happy to still have JT, disappointed we are going in with the same Dcore that wasn’t good enough last year.

It seems the forward group has improved, and I’m sure Demko, Petey and Hughes will be better than last year (not to say they were all bad).

I am cautiously optimistic about this year.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t great, but see the potential to be a good one.

    Go Canucks Go

Its going to be a very good season...1. Calgary 2. Edmonton 3. Vancouver 4. LA Kings..

Very strong 10 forwards so top 3 lines will be very good--

Forward  Group - Rank 8th NHL

Defence Group - Rank 17th NHL

    Goalie  Group --Demko 5th NHL-- Martin - Rookie 25 games 15 wins - 2.88 GAA - 908 SA%

With the tournament arriving in little over a week from now I thought I would get one going. Man I am excited for Canucks hockey again.

This is the schedule according to Canucks Army: https://canucksarmy.com/2022/06/23/canucks-release-schedule-for-2022-young-stars-classic-in-penticton/

    Screen-Shot-2022-06-23-at-11.17.05-AM.png?resize=600%2C527&ssl=1

I've seen more and more rosters come out for other prospect tournaments for teams. Will be interesting to see who is invited. Historically, the Canucks have mainly invited out prospects who either played in the CHL, the AHL, ECHL, and free agent signings.

    • NCAA rules suggest that any form of games with an NHL club (even a prospect tournament is considered as a pro level game) will lead to college players losing their eligibility to play in the NCAA and scholarships. The likes of Gardner, Truscott, Dorrington, McDonough, Koskenvuo, Malone, and Kunz will be unavailable for the tourney.
    • Additionally, with European leagues already midway/towards the end of their own preseasons, I don't think the Canucks will invite their European prospects over. Makes no sense to get them to travel for a 3 game tournament and take them out of their own rhythm of play across seas with their clubs. So I don't think Lekkerimaki, Forsell, Pettersson, Myrenberg, Gabrielsson, Persson, Jurmo, Zlodeev, and Costmar will be joining the team either.
    • Even based on past rules if I recall correctly, the young stars tourney had rules regarding games played for prospects in the AHL/ECHL level. I can't remember the number but I think it was somewhere between 75-100 pro games led to not being eligible as well. Which puts into questions whether we see the likes of Woo, Rathbone, Focht, and/or Lockwood at this tourney. They haven't played 100 pro games as of yet but all four have played a considerable amount of AHL/NHL games already. Perhaps they leave them off the roster to focus on main camp preparation.

Based on the Canucks summer development camp and prospects who have seen very little pro games I expect this group to be part of the mix along with a lot of NCAA/college free agents, CHL free agents, and others. I think of guys like Jack Jensen, Jacob Bauer, Max Namestnikov, Jackson Van Leest, and Ian Murphy as potential additions to the roster

    Image

These are who I speculate would be at the tournament along with other free agent prospects.

    Bains-Aman-Klimovich
    Nielsen-Lockhart-Karlsson
    Plasek-Wouters-Gatcomb

    Nychuk-Kannok-Leipert
    Schmiemann-Kudryavtsev

    Silovs
    Young

I was looking for Quinn Schmiemann's name but he is not on site  with the rest of the other Canuck prospect?

So had to come her to say I was very impressed with this young prospect.

I have watched him lots over last 2 years in WHL but he had a very good camp so far..

Big Schmiemann 21 yrs -6'2 - 205 - LD-- Hope he has a healthy season and plays his strong game..

Least he has signed with Vancouver...

  16. I really think Canucks will sign and announce the new Horvat contract before season starts October 15th.

As much as everyone has there own opinion and we must all respect that?

I can't see Bo Horvat taking keeping his same contract  5.5 million?

    Horvat should have a AAV between 6.4 - 6.7 million  X 7 yrs.

    Horvat 27- 6'0 - 215lbs --C

    Horvát produces  GP 75    G 25-27 --  ( 55--60 points)

I hear people say Landeskog contract  7 yrs X 7 million... This player is team captain and point a game guy last 2 years.

    'Last years Stanley cup final GP 20- G 11 - PTS 22

This contract looks great for Colorado right now-- Landeskog  30 soon - 6'1- 215 - LW/C
