Management was freaking out they couldn't trade Miller so they drooled when Miller accepted 7million AAV. Should have pulled the trigger at last year's TDL, not chase the playoffs in which we had like a 5% chance of making.

No previous regime ties down a new one. They are the current regime and have the power to change things and turn a new page. All these tied down by previous regimes are just pathetic excuses.

They still be trying to trade Miller before his contract starts..

Only a few players I would not trade, Hughes, Petey, Podkolzin, Demko....

I would want more for CG honestly. Garland is a play driving catalyst. Brock is a stealth bomber. Don't notice him until you look at the score sheet.

    Kreb 21 - C/W --  2nd rounder 2023  ( Kreb  875,000 )-- --Conditional 2nd rounder in 2024 if Boeser score 30 goals

    Boeser 6.7 million X 3 yr

    Free up almost 6 million...

Let's take things one step at a time. If he was a top 4 dman he would have gone more than a 5th and another team would have offered more for him

the last thing we need is over hyping Canucks players again

Not nessasary his stock went down after a few bad playoff games.. Went to Carolina and never fit into coach Rod's system. Bear needs a fresh start and with injuries he will get his chance now.. Teams were hesitant these are the type of trades the can turn out great and cost of 5th rounder is a no brainer...

    Hughes 23- OEL 30 -- Myers 32-- Bear 25 -  Poolman 29--Dermott 25-- Schenn 32-- Rathbone 23 --Stillman 25 -- Burroughs 27

That’s the impetus for the move.

The Canucks have 3 legit Centers.

There isn’t a legit 4th line Center with Lazar out. Aman is not a legit 4th line NHL Center.

Chuckles indeed. Thanks for the migraine.

I don't think Studnicka 23 is better then Aman 22 ? Aman has played good after 8 games...

Trading Myrenberg 19 RD has more upside then Studnicka 23..

    Trades done hope Myrenberg doesn't become a # 4 or # 5 RD man..

    I get it. He’s a prospect.

He’s not the next Edler, Karlsson or Lidstrom

Do you really believe the team traded away a game-breaking top tier talent?

If he was as good as Bains, then give your head a shake. Neither are going to make this squad or the League.

I feel like I’m talking to the individual bricks in the wall.

We totally overvalue our team’s prospects way too much.

You have no clue what you are talking about??? How can you tell how a player is going to turn out at 19 yrs old???

Never said he was going to be a superstar like  Lidstrom, Karlsson....

Myrenberg 6'2 RD could easily become a # 4 or # 5 D man and right Dmen are hard to find..

At 19 very good upside will know in 2-3 years..

Trading Myrenberg  RD 19  upside higher ?? for  ( Studnicka 23 -- 12 or 13  player or AHL player ???

Rather wait  2 yrs and see how Myrenberg would turn out...

It wasn’t a terrible trade. The RHD prospect was meh.

He is 19, 6'2 RD could make Sweden world U20 team for this 2022  ? I would say he is playing good,

    I like this prospect...

    Jonathan Myrenberg
If I had to pick who the best defenceman of this camp was, I’d go with Jonathan Myrenberg. He stood out on day one with the added size that he has put on in the past year, shined with the power behind his shot, and wowed us in the scrimmage with his ability to anticipate plays in the neutral zone.
He will be loaned to the Allsvenskan for the 2022-23 season and hopes to be back in the SHL for the year after that. As a 6’2″, right-shot defenceman who can move, he is very much in our crosshairs as we fast approach overseason prospect viewings.
We loved the way that he was so aware of everyone on the ice during the scrimmage. He has active eyes and is constantly scanning and preparing for what to do when he gets the puck.
Lots to like, he is our first star of the defence and up there with Bains as out camp standouts.

I'd prefer to keep Bo if he'd like to stay, but I'm not as sure of that as I once was. The longer this losing stretch goes on the more likely I think it is he'll just opt for a fresh start elsewhere. Who wants to lose forever? It's almost all he's done as a Canuck, which doesn't reflect well on the Benning era management.

I think the defense will be a longer term project than some, but maybe we could bring some in via trade. Problem is the best way to get top 4D is to draft them, teams don't typically move out their top young D.

I do think that if we embrace a rebuild we might not always get as much value as we'd like, but at the same time we might have to bite the bullet sometimes.

I don't think anyone on this roster is untouchable, but I'm inclined to keep Petey, Hughes, and Podz. I've begun to waver on Demko, but I see both sides of that argument. I'd restart with that young core. Assuming Pettersson wants to stay through a rebuild, we'll see.

Goalies are so hard to acquire and Demko is a top 10....For right trade anyone is a untouchable I guess if you get big trade with talent in return..

  8. 4 hours ago, Coconuts said:

The idea would be to kickstart our moving guys out to gear up for a rebuild, or a retool as Rutherford would probably prefer to describe it as. But yeah, probably rebuild. Let's get to it!

    To Boston:

    Mr. JT Miler

    To Vancouver:

    Charlie Coyle

Fabian Lysell (good winger prospect, drafted 21st overall in 2021)

    Why does Boston do this?

Bergeron, their 1C, is 37 years old and signed to a one year deal worth 2.5M. He'll be 38 next July. This is probably his last year.

Krejci, he came back, but for how long? He's 36 years old and will be 37 in April. Wouldn't shock me if this was his last year in the NHL, or if he runs off and plays more hockey over in the Czech league before retiring.

Boston is going to need a top six center sooner than later, if you look at their roster they're built more towards competing than rebuilding. Sure, they've gotta sign Pasta still but they'll absolutely need a top six center soon. Coyle makes exactly the same salary as Miller this season, 5.25M, Boston could make this trade today and gun for one last playoff run with a 1-2 punch of Bergeron and Miller, and enter next season with a successor in place. They give up a good prospect and a pretty solid NHL'er for stability down the middle.

    Why does Vancouver do this?

Rebuild, baby! This move would buy us a good wing prospect, a stopgap center, and cap flexibility sooner than later. If we're rebuilding Miller's best remaining best years are probably wasted here and the long-term contract probably isn't ideal.

Charlie Coyle isn't nothing, he's a big ol' 6'3" center who's probably good for 30-40 points, maybe a tad more.

    Lysell, good winger prospect.

Coyle only has three seasons remaining on his deal after this season, that's not nearly as many years as seven. We'd have that 5.25M freed up during the midst of a rebuild or closer to the end of a retool. Take your pick.

What's the caveat of this deal?

Well, shucks, it seems Coyle actually has a NMC and a 10-team NTC. Why the hell would he waive for Vancouver? Well, nothing ventured nothing gained?

What do you do if he doesn't want to waive?

Could work with Boston and a third team that isn't on Coyle's NTC. It ain't as if Coyle is worthless, it'd just require more work and probably something else coming our way instead of Coyle. Totally doable I believe, Boston could absolutely use Miller as early as this season.

Make a trade that doesn't involve Coyle. It'd require additional pieces. Let's saaaaay.. something around Miller+ for Lysell, Debrusk, and Trent Frederick. That'd have Boston moving out a tad over 5M while taking on 5.25M. Dunno what the + would be, but hey, I don't have all the answers.

Could just flip Debrusk, who doesn't have any trade protection, to another team post-trade. Or, you know, keep him if you're into that sort of thing.

Would Boston wanna give up Debrusk and Lysell? Maybe not. Would they care about Frederick? Probably not as he's closer to 25 and hasn't shown much. Would Boston want JT Miller? I'm inclined to say yes.

    Conclusion:

I see Boston as a good landing spot for Miller, Boston's one of the few teams that arguably desperately needs a top six center sooner than later and any way you spin it they're probably gonna have to make a sacrifice to get one. One could argue they might have more interest in Horvat but Miller's been a point per game player or better the last few years and you've gotta give to get. Them getting Horvat also isn't necessarily an option unless he makes it to UFA, and given he's probably traded somewhere for a good return if he's not willing to re-sign with what could be a rebuilding/retooling club that's far from a guarantee. If they want him they'll probably have to trade with us for him.

Yes how many times are management going to keep same core.. This team needs change.

We have the top 10 goalie-- Lets build defence and work up..

Miller has decent contact at 8 million he will produce 72--85 points of next 4 - 5 years...

Trade for RD man under 27-  late 1st rounder or high prospect... Won't be easy to make trades to get good value so this will be a slow process..

    Only a few core players to keep... Demko 26-- Petey 23 - Hughes 22 -- Podkolzin 21---

If some team made ridiculous offer for core player I would also listen..

    To NJ: Q. Hughes, Burroughs

To Van: Severson (with extension in place), Nemec, protected 1st.

NJ gets the trifecta brother combo, a marketing and team chemistry dream, and an 80 pt potential d man. And with Hamilton and Marino there, it doesn't decimate their right side. Burroughs is serviceable on their bottom pair.

We solve our RHD issues going forward, and gain a late 1st.

Like the trade -- rather have Marino

    I would rather take Marino 25 - 5 yrs X 4.4 million

Severson 28 -RD will demand  6.5--7 million X 7 yrs this summer ( UFA 29 yrs old summer....

    Marion 25 -RD -6'1 #3 D man -- 5 yrs X 4.4 million

    Nemec 18 - RD -6'0 future # 2 RD man   2nd overall 2022 draft.. - entry level deal

    1st rounder - 2023 --should be between 14 -18th O/A.  ---

    3rd rounder -2024

    NJ Devil

    Hughes 23 -5'10 Top 10 offensive D man in league 5 yrs X 7.8 millio

What about Bo for Serverson and a protected 1st?

Horvat 27- C -- Severson 6'2 RD -- I see it as a even trade and both players are UFA this summer..

    Horvat demand 7 yrs X 7.5 million?

Severson 28 RD-- 7 yrs X 6.8 - -7 million  range -- Very offensive RD man could demand more money ?Has to make less then Hughes.

I would rather trade for a younger RD man....

First proposal here… take it easy on me. This is a bit of a big risk, big reward kind of move.

    To Van

    Seth Jones 2.5mil retained

    To Chicago

    2023 protected 1st

    2023 2nd

    Garland

    Boeser

Seth Jones is 28 and imho his age and cap hit doesnt fit with Chicago’s full tear down rebuild. By the time they are competing, he’ll be 34-35 and taking up 9.5mil in cap. They need to acquire as many picks as possible to speed their rebuild up. They get a 1st and 2nd round pick in separate drafts, they can then flip Garland and Boeser for more picks and collect a handful of picks to draft as many players as possible and increase their chances of finding quality players. We’d be asking a lot of them to retain 2.5mil for 7 years, so I feel its fair to give them 2 picks along with 2 young NHLers who can be in their lineup now and can be used as trade bait at the TDL for more picks.

We are in desperate need of a top 4RHD, they dont grow on trees and the price is steep. This also frees up 4.5mil in cap space for us after landing Jones, to go towards re-signing Kuzmenko.

I know its a lot to give up, but a 7mil cap hit for 7 more years with an increasing cap is manageable.

    Hughes - Jones

    OEL - Myers

    Schenn - Rathbone

Would never make that trade for Seth Jones 28 RD-- 8 yrs X 9.5 million???? He is not worth 9.5 million...

Vancouver would be really be in cap problems..

Rather make small trades -- Horvat or Boeser for that #2 RD man under 7.5 million, age 24--27...

Trading, Garland -- Boeser , 1st rounder, 2nd rounder just crazy..Please NO NO...

We don't want to kill this team for years and trades like Seth Jones would be awful...

    Peeke 6'4- 24 -RD plays between 20--22 mins 2.75 X 3 yrs -- Jenner 29 - C  - 6'3. --3.75 million X 4 yrs

    Horvat --  Rathbone

Well, things are not working out as expected (or predicted) and our needs are still the same.  We can’t rebuild, otherwise Petey, Hughes and Demko will walk and our other vets like Miller and Boeser hold minimal value.  We need to stay young and try and get back on track:

    To Rangers:

    2023 Canucks 1st (Top 3 protected)

    Luke Schenn

    To Vancouver:

    Braden Schneider

Our pick shouldn’t be in that top 3 range but could easily be top 10 at this point.  Schneider has a RD ceiling with their depth and isn’t a big contributor this year.  Schenn is obviously a 3rd pair RD that meets an immediate need for 1-2 years.  We pay a heavy price but we need NHL ready options now.

    To Arizona:

    Jonathan Lekkerimaki

    Nils Hoglander

    Tucker Poolman

    To Vancouver:

    Jacob Chychrun

Arizona is looking for future talents (Hogs and Lekk) and Poolman either is serviceable for them or goes on LTIR.

Ultimately this takes away a lot of futures from the Canucks (Maybe we need to add a bit more like Rathbone) but solidifies what we need to do on D with young D options.  Unless we tear it down (not possible) we need to adjust.  With this done we get the follow D core:

    Ekman-Larsson - Chychrun (off side)

    Hughes - Schneider

    Dermott - Myers

The NYR will want more then a middle round first rounder for Schneider 21-RD -6'2 future #2 D man...

Ranger will never make a trade like that? Schneider is a RD man these type of players are so hard to find,,

Schneider is a core player to build around and cap friendly deal under 1 million..

    Might get a Peeke 24, RD - 6'3 RD from Columbus ???

Jim Benning would be a disaster to bring back.  And while Rutherford/Allvin should have to answer for their poor off-season, firing them is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.  The problem is beyond management.  It's on the player personnel, but more importantly. it stems from a lack of leadership, accountability, and patience from the ownership.

Until the team is sold, or this roster is completely torn down and rebuilt properly, we will be in the sewers for the foreseeable future.  I have always maintained it would take years to fix this team after Benning's departure; we are simply now seeing what I've always been talking about.

Basically they are resigning the same team.

Need to change the team and make a major trade for RD man under 27?  To get that Rd man you have to trade a asset like a Miller or Horvat?  They signed Miller so maybe Horvat will be traded...

I like Miller but his personality could be toxic in room when he is upset? We have seen how he can act some people might of witnessed personalities like Millers in there work place.

    1. We need the RD stay at home guy plays 21--24 mins under 27. This player will be more valuable then most forwards...People just look at points this player will prevent scoring chances, move puck up to forward quick make Vancouver harder to play against.

Look at Flames defence now adding Weeger?

    1. Weeger 28-RD/ LD  2. Anderson 25 - RD  3. Hanifin 25 - LD 4.Tanev 32 RD 5.Zadorav LD/RD 6. Stone 32- RD

We need to shore up defence other wise its going to be a very long season...Fighting for last playoff spot??? I hope I am wrong I really did like forwards and Goaltender ..

    1. Forwards  rated top 10 -- After 5 games --18th

    2. Defence - rated --18th -- After 5 games - 25th.. Missing Myers first 3 games hurt and no Dermott

    3. Goalies - Rated -- 8th - After 5 games -- 18th-- very average tandem but team in front are not playing good

He is playing with confidence and will have lots of support from Canucks new development team..

Everyone wanting to trade Myers and we can now see what this team would be like without him. He's by far our best RD, after him we just have a bunch of bottom pairing/AHL guys. If you look at the team, RD is the one place we're thinnest so I'd say Myers' injury may be the most important to the team. We lose a top-6 center and no problem - we've got 3 who can cycle in there. Lose Hughes and OEL can step up. Lose Demko and dare I say Martin can play some games.

But we lose Myers and we're an absolute mess on the PK and defensively. We got shredded against Edmonton and I'd like to think if Myers is in there on the PK, we at least stop one or two goals against and win the game.

Never have understood the hate Myers gets but I think it all comes from the cap hits of these players, and right now 6M would be a steal for a top-4 RD who can defend decently. He makes the odd dumb defensive play but does far more good than bad, and this is a little taster of what life would be life without him - and it's not good.

Fantastic post, Myers is very valuable RD man plays 20--24 minutes against other teams top line...

    Myers solid # 3 D man

    Hughes - Very talented #1 D man - Top 15 in league

OEL #2-- Very talented playing different role on team with Hughes, points dropped not much PP time and played shut down role..

    Hughes #1 -- OEL #2 --- Myers #3 ---( Poolman #4 -#5 ) Dermott #5 - Schenn #5 -- Stillman #6-- #6 Burroughs #6 - Rathbone #6
