Here's a fun Monday morning question...
With so many RFA's sitting unsigned IRL, if they do happen to pull a Nylander and sit out, are we allowed to put them on IR or 'something', or are we just F'd with an unproductive player on our roster (assuming most require and wouldn't clear waivers)?
I'm assuming that's the case but would be happy to hear otherwise. At least I won't likely be alone if it happens
Last year with Nylander I just placed him in my AHL to start the season because waivers aren't activated until the season starts.
As far as I am aware this is still the rule?

TRADE: The Anaheim Ducks have made a trade with the Washington Capitals.
To ANA:
Patrick Marleau
Dennis Gilbert
To WSH:
2020 ANA 2nd Round Draft Selection
2021 ANA 4th Round Draft Selection
Thank you Andre for finding space for a potential future Hall of Famer.
We had Marleau projected as our 13th forward and I didn't want to enter the season that way if I had the chance to find him a better playing situation.
The vet will get plenty of playing time in his contract year with a reigning playoff team.
We wish him the best moving forward

TRADE: The New York Islanders have made a trade with the Washington Capitals.
To NYI:
Jack Roslovic
Ryan Dzingel
Curtis McElhinney
To WSH:
Evgeny Kuznetsov
Thank you to Jaku for the thorough negotiation.
First off, Ryan Dzingel has been exceptional for us during his five seasons here in Washington and in Dover.
Speed to to burn, natural finisher, instincts, tenacity. With all due respect to my other guys, I thought Dzingel was my best forward last season along with Evander Kane.
We thank him greatly for being a major part of the last three exciting seasons in Washington and most definitely wish him the best moving forward.
Roslo we paid heavily for last season and was hoping he could play line 2 for us this season. An all around great prospect who is ready to make a big impact. We wish him the best as well.
Curtis McElhinney seems to be in the prime of his career and we are thrilled to have been able to find him such a great fit in Brooklyn.
With all that being said.....
Welcome Evgeny Kuznetsov!
Top end talent is very tough to find, and we just got some.
6 years ago at this same time, Pavel Datsyuk left Washington after a first round playoff exit to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly turning down a four year contract worth over 40-million dollars to stay with the Caps. Datsyuk only played one full lockout shortened season in Washington.
Outside of our time with Datsyuk our top centers have been Elias, Turris, Gagner, Zetterberg and Koivu.
We are very excited to FINALLY have found out top line center that can be an ultimate game-breaker for the Caps.
At age 27 our hope is that Kuznetsov spends the next 10 years here in Washington.
He immediately joins youngsters Laine and Nylander along with a large group of vets in pursuit of the coveted CDCGML cup!

Just to clarify since I am new to the off-season here. There are no active waivers in the summer? Thus meaning I can send down a forward like Tyler Motte now without risk of exposure? I just wanted to double check before I lost him for nothing if I tried.
That is currently the rule but it's gotta change in my opinion.

I think we baby GM’s enough by allowing them to submit a list. We shouldn’t be auto picking a player for them as well. If you know you can’t make the draft that we have set a date for well in advance, you should be trading your picks. If you don’t want to do that you can submit a list.
If a manager misses the draft and doesn't submit a list (without a legit excuse) I think it means they lack commitment to the league and are not a worthy GM. The real people suffering are the committed GM's that are competing against guys that couldn't care less. I personally want league parity.

Are you suggesting the executive do a Best Pick Available for teams with awol GM's at the draft? I would be on board with this if it was say 31 picks after the skip....so the penalty to the club would be a full round delay and if the GM hasn't shown up yet then the exec BPA's that pick, only a full 31 picks later so there is some penalty for missing but not a team crushing loss, shrug, just an idea to somewhat save the club if not the GM who is afk.
Honestly, I would suggest if a team misses their pick they get "auto-drafted" a player.
I hate watching building teams miss out on the most important day of the calendar.

Currently they make the pick at the end of the round right?
Ya, and some teams have missed top 5 picks. Long time committed GM's have even made these blunders for various reasons.
Technology isn't even a sure thing depending on where some people might currently living.

Hey guys,
With the draft coming right up I thought maybe we could discuss what should happen if a team misses a pick.
The draft is such a crucial time of year to add talent; particularly for the teams at the top of the board. Teams often miss picks for various reasons and I find it usually widens the gap between the good teams and the bad teams.
What do you guys think should happen if a team misses their pick?

Available in Washington:
Patrick Marleau:
Patrick Marleau scored 37 points last year and has one season left at 4.1 mil. Good chance he gets traded for by the Leafs or Sharks at the deadline this upcoming trade deadline.
Thomas Hickey:
Another guy with one year remaining on a moderate 3.0 cap hit. Definitely a bounce back in my mind.
Curtis McElhinney:
Best backup goalie in the world this past season taking the Canes to the conference finals. In the midst of by far the best years of his career the 35 year old has one year remaining on his deal at 1.0.
Matthew Peca:
Signed and developed after his sophomore season at Quinnipiac University the still young Peca is signed with MTL in real life and spent the entire season in the NHL this past season.

Congratulations to @Master Mind and the Vancouver Canucks on winning the CDCGML cup. As far as I am concerned this is the hardest trophy to win in all fantasy sports and you earned this championship by quietly making shrewd moves to acquire the players necessary to become only the 7th champion in CDCGML history. Looking at your roster makeup, to me it is clear that the Canucks will remain a powerhouse in the western conference and will hopefully bring a little but more conference parity to the league. Great work and once again congratulations to a guy that clearly knows a lot about building a hockey team.
You've obviously got nothing left to prove @OurTimeToShine. In my mind, you have been the most dominant GM in CDCGML history. Without you the league becomes evidently less competitive. In my personal opinion you got ripped off twice by the league (this year included) and responded by keeping your justified discontent private while continuing to dominate the field.
I'm still hoping you change your mind and remain the GM of the Panthers but if not please find a new team and stick with this incredible league.
With all that being said, it also feels like a good time to show some appreciation and gratitude to @canuck2xtreme and @Mike Vanderhoek for your full commitment to this league for ten years now! Thanks guys for doing an incredible job and particularly for your commitment to improving the league this season from last season. It doesn't go unnoticed. You guys are awesome.
