I think the players that have been discussed the most on these boards (Virtanen, Ehlers, Ritchie, Nylander) have a lot of question marks about them. Either way I hope that one of Draisaitl, Bennett, or Dal Colle drop to our position at #6 instead because I think all three are more complete as players. I just hope the Canucks stay away from Nylander at the 6th spot. He is the riskiest pick out of those 4 players that will likely be left on the board once its Vancouvers turn to pick. I think a real possibility in this draft is that William Nylander is picked by Calgary if Ekblad, Reinhart and Draisaitl are gone. His father Michael spent his longest tenure playing for an NHL team in Calgary. Could be a neat story for them but I guess that doesn't really matter for them seeing that they passed on Shinkaruk in last years draft. 1. FLA - Ekblad 2. BUF - Reinhart 3. EDM - Draisaitl 4. I just don't have any confidence in the "skilled" players after this years top 5 picks. William Nylander is a prospect I have watched more than others because he has played for my favorite team in Sweden MoDo a few times this season and there is definitley skill there but there is just something about him that just doesn't convince me he will pan out to become a high scoring player in the NHL. It's hard to think of word for it but he just doesn't feel like he is cut out for it. I hope I am completely wrong if we end up picking him 6th. No physicality at all, weakest player I have seen play for MoDo in years. Nikolaj Ehlers like Nylander has a lot of skill and speed but there is just something there that just doesn't make me that convinced. I think he will slide in the draft and go between 12th and 15th in the draft. He wouldnt't be able to compete against the Kings, Ducks, Sharks or any other major Western team. He will be picked by an Eastern Team. Kasperi Kapanen very similar to William Nylander and I expect him to go outside of the top 10 as well. I don't mind who the Canucks pick but I think that Jake Virtanen is too hard to resist for the new management especially with the way Linden wants this team to look in the future. I have to retract my statement earlier saying that he is not a 6th overall pick in this draft because I think the Canucks will have to make him a 6th overall pick. Similar to Horvat in last years draft he was ranked to go lower in the draft but one team had him at 4th overall in the entire draft. I think us fans often rely on the medias opinions rather than what NHL teams will be looking for. Some names that come to mind (Ryan Johansen, Morgan Reilly, Alexander Barkov, Bo Horvat) in recent drafts that the media have had lower but NHL teams have had higher. I think Jake Virtanen has all the tools to become a VERY good top 6 winger in the NHL but it is hard to deny that he is a very "raw" type of prospect. The Canucks have to decide whether or not it is worth the risk to draft a raw prospect that could turn potentially turn into a hometown hero or go with another option that they feel more suited for the future of the organization. I was listening to the Canucks Army draft special podcast and they made some very good points about Jake Virtanen. They pointed out that he has been playing with two over agers the majority of the year and this wouldd have likely inflated his numbers a little bit. Now, I am not saying that Virtanen wouldn't be a bad pick but he would be a high risk/high reward type of prospect especially at #6. There is no denying that he is a very talented hockey player. I wouldn't either be against drafting him but I think that there are other options that would be safer pics like Nick Ritchie, Brendan Perlini and Haydn Fleury. I think we will have an excellent chance to grab a very talented player this year either way. Who ever we pick that has been around the 3-8 spots all year will have a very good career in the NHL and I just hope that the scouting staff have done their homework and pick the best player available and that might very well be Jake Virtanen. I wanted the Canucks to pick him earlier in the year when they would be drafting at the #8-#10 spots.

I don't like Ehlers potential of transitioning into the NHL, I just don't think it will be a success. I know he is 6ft and around 176 but there is just something about his game that I don't like. I would prefer drafting Jake Virtanen or Brendan Perlini over him.

I think it would be very very difficult to get Milan Lucic to join the Canucks. Both value wise in a trade and the Canucks actually wanting to bring him in with the way fans have treated him in the past. I know it doesn't make every Canuck fan an idiot because of some individuals but it would be very odd to see him in a canuck uniform ever in his career.

IF Linden is hired, which i personally find very unlikely with the businesses he is already running in B.C, I can't see him as either the President or GM of an NHL team. I think it would be fantastic to see him being hired as Vice President and then Bob Nicholson as President. Linden would be learning under Nicholson and they would both be responsible for finding a replacement for Gillis. My Vote for GM is on current Boston AGM Jim Benning (2006 - Present). He has played for the Canucks (1986-1990), was a great head scout for the Sabres, and has not been anything but successful in Boston being apart of the Stanley cup winner in 2011 and playoff appearances in all the seasons he has been with the organization. He has a very good eye for talent both in the draft and in the pro ranks, which can be proven by the Bruins drafting and negotiations over the past few years. We can't afford to hire rookies to run this organizations. Jim Benning is the perfect man for the job.

I don't know how to feel about this yet. Came as a shock, expected him to get another year.

The one player I hope doesn't drop down to wherever we pick is William Nylander. Being a fan of MoDo I have watched him play and I am really not that impressed with him. I think he will be a decent NHL player but he is a risky pick with his size. Also seems that he has some attitude issues with the way he has conducted himself with MoDo, pretty much only wanting to get loaned out to Sodertalje in the second league.

Garrison should not be bought out. Simple as that.

Luke Schenn should not be apart of any deal. The guy is an absolute plug IMO.

People are silly claiming that Kesler wouldn't waive to go to Pittsburgh? I think most players in the league would love to play with players like Crosby, Malkin, and Neal. I think Kesler and Edler could be a very nice fit in New York with their old headcoach. The Rangers have the pieces to make the move as well. I could see Alberts being waived after this. As for the move, solid trade for both teams. Vancouver get's what they want and need and same goes for Montreal. With Weber though, doesn't really make sense to add Diaz in that respect, very similar players.

We have a lot of assets in play that could make a re-tool very smooth. If Devin Setoguchi becomes available I hope we go after him. We need more skill in our lineup! I think he would look very good next to a Ryan Kesler. Not sure on value however.

I hate to be so negative but this has been one of the worst ice hockey games I have ever watched in my life and there has been 8 goals. It's like every player on the roster is just a fraction of what he used to be. Luongo looks insanley lazy and slugish, which, 90% of the team does anyways as well.. very depressing to watch. Where is the energy and desire to win? I have seen none of that the past 20-25 games.

Don't see how anyone could complain about interest shown in Steve Ott. He is arguable one of the top 3rd line centers in the league and according to many Buffalo fans an exceptional guy in the dressing room. I really don't see a reason to rush a Bo Horvat or a Brendan Gaunce into a important role on this team yet. Why not give them time in the AHL to get used to the pro game. I think it has become vital for players to develop in the AHL before hitting the big stage. Steve Ott could be re-signed as well. Would you rather be paying David Booth 4.2 million or Steve Ott 4.2 million? He won't ask for that much and look at the player that could be brought in instead of having Booth.

I think if you ignore the money Stastny would be a fantastic fit on this team and he is still fairly young at 26. I think he could be signed to a 5-6 million contract at the end of the season. The talk of Girardi becoming an option and the direct link he now has with Vancouver since Torts is the coach makes me salivate. IMO this makes Tanev tradeable if in fact a deal for Girardi can be reached as well. Horvat was the only impressive Canadian player in my mind watching the Sweden game. I know that Canada have a lot more to bring in the tournament so I am not being too happy about the win. You guys have to stop playing dirty during these pre-tournament games though! A skilled team like Canada shouldn't be gooning it around out of frustration. (Matt Dumba, second year in a row now)
