    given how the negotiations went

it seems most of us could work as brock's agent as well

not sure what he really added to the process

except a lot of delay based on silly expectations

    edit:  as an aside

though we have not seen the completion of all the rfa signings this offseason

can we still lump the laffs into a similar category of canadian teams as the coilers?

the coiler trade comparisons are not relevant for any other nhl team

and now laff rfa signings are not relevant to any other similar status signing

man these canadian teams have gone off the deep end

    +1

We now have Horvat and Boeser signed without any clauses. This leaves a team with the ability to make moves as they go forward.

Very good point!  Setting president for future contracts.  This is a very big deal.  Benning really is setting up our future long term.  This is the biggest mistake Gillis made.... Looking short term.  It's taken years to recover from those choices made in 2010-2013.  So on the flip side, these choices by Benning and co. now will set us up for years to come.

Definitely see why we targeted Miller. Can do alot of things for ya.

We will win with guys like JT and Pearson in regular season and playoffs.  Big gritty and skilled.

I have followed JT a lot over past two years (versatile guy in my pool).  Was happy Benning traded for him.  I believe in the end he'll be worth the first rounder we sent to TB.  Though it hasn't been confirmed, I am sure there were at least two other teams interested in trading for him.  That's why the price was a little high considering TB position of weakness.  Watch, this guy will help us win a Stanley Cup!

    who is this roody poo

99% of the time, I am level and patient with my views on the team decisions because well... What the hell do I really know, I'm not behind the scenes.  I just know the history if Cloutier as a goalie for the canucks... How he dealt with the fallout after his part in the repeated failed attempt of the westcoast express not advancing in the playoffs.  Then as a hockey coach, not seeing any and I mean any marketable improvement with the goalies, prospect or roster, during his time here.

.... Maybe, just maybe he, like his days on the team, didn't have the sufficient support around him to succeed, but I look at the results... Because that's all I can judge, at best.  So Twilight you might find me a little crass... But hey we all have our 'lightning rod' opinions and this is one of mine.

Credit is overdue/always has been overdue for Cloutier. Under his watch, he has been part of the reason why the Canucks' goaltending has been so strong. The fact that Benning kept him for all these years reflects how good he really is as a coach/person. He may not have been the ENTIRE reason why the Canucks goaltending has been so strong, but he has certainly been helpful.

The hate on him has always been irrational, but this "glad he is gone" sentiment is especially confusing. Did he slaughter your kids and use their blood as crayon ink?

No hate man, but no the goaltending was not strong with clouts, last year was because of Ian Clarke.

Clouts though not a bad coach was average at best.  Tell me, which goalie prospects did he really take to the next level?  He left because he couldn't commit his full focus on the goalies so no he wasn't top notch at all.  Again all the best to him, but watch Demko, Dipietro and other prospects really flourish going forward.... Ian Clarke is the guru, he wrote the dam book... Clouts was as average a coach as his goaltending was.

Dan Cloutier resigns after eight seasons as Goaltending Coach and Director of Goaltending. The organization is grateful for Cloutier's service and wishes him success in future.

I'm sure Dan is a great guy but was I was never happy having him as goalie coach for this team.  Thanks for the tme Dan, all the best, but glad you're gone.

    From the Province

“In today’s game with the coach and the player, it’s almost a partnership,” Vancouver Canucks coach Travis Green said Monday. “There’s a respect factor that you give players and it goes the other way. When you have good character guys, they’ll do it naturally.

“But I also believe in talking about it. And buy-in is one of the words we’re using this year. We need it. And it comes in different ways and it’s not just doing it when it’s easy. Sometimes, it’s sacrificing personal needs and goals. It’s a commitment. You don’t win in this league unless you have the buy-in.”

Coach Green's recent comments say a lot about the type of team he wants, as well as the type of team Benning has been building for a while.

Our team is full of character, which is why we have many captain material guys, and which is something that Benning has had as part of his plan since the beginning.

I can't wait to see practice in action for my first time this Saturday in Vic :towel:

Totally agree with you in relation to Benning drafting and trading for character players.  It hasn't always worked out due to a variety of reasons but it has been a constant for this management group.... And I think it's finally starting to pay off.

I'm going on Saturday too!!! Gonna be rad! :emot-parrot:

There's no point in getting into a deep discussion about race when neither of us can prove if it was truly racism or not.

The fact of the matter is that when they finally started to calm down, throw a whole lot fewer temper tantrums, and just play the game, the same exact people they accused of being racist warmed up to them and the crowds started to root for them.

I'll agree with you here.  I think like anyone, they needed to mature.  However, it doesn't mean their message was wrong or incorrect.  Nevertheless, if you want people to hear you, it how you relay the message that makes all the difference.

It started right away.  When they came into tennis they were like bulls in a china shop and ruffled feathers which got them ignored and disliked by the other girls in the WTA.  They whined and cried racism for years because they weren't popular.  Eventually they stopped blaming racism because it had little to nothing to do with it, and they became more popular as newer previously unexposed fans started watching.

I never became a fan.  At best I'm apathetic when it comes to both Serena and Venus.  I don't care whether they win or lose.

How do you know that it wasn't racism, are you of color?

Totally helps tune out distractions in order to stay focused.   She seems to take every single element of this seriously.  I believe it's true when she says she's worked hard...I think it starts long before she hits the court.

Has the same sort of drive and determination as Petey...never satisfied and always working toward being better.

...... the set back is that he wont be up to speed and is listed as day to day actually thus they don't even know which group to put him in once training camp starts.  The setback right now is that he is not 100% for training camp as he was suppose to be according to JB and his agent.

    Thank you...

"There haven’t been any setbacks. He met with the surgeon last week and got a good report."

    ^^^That's good news.

A few of us have been noting he should be in Utica to get back up to speed for a good couple months, for a while now.

Benning said he'd start there in a recent interview.

This really shouldn't be a surprise

If you haven't already noticed... Maybe you missed it... I miss a lot if things lol!

Just had ideas that he'd be ready to go full by training camp... Don't ask me why I thought that, beyond that there hasn't been a lot of news (outside of pro and con opinions) on O.J. until recently.  And I was having... 'A moment'.:frantic:

I'm glad your optimistic... I'll just wait with no expectations.

So very frustrating:mad:... Can imagine how hard it is for OJ and management.  My already low expections for him making and sticking with the Canucks at some point this season has dropped to pretty well non-existent.  Many other players to look forward to watching this year but, in my eyes, O.J. was and can still be (based on skill set) a very integral part of this young team for years to come.... But come on already!!!

Okay, venting over... Oh Lord... First world problems lol!

I like Martin, but the reality is he was always going to be a situational pass rusher in Seattle's scheme. He might be more of a fit as an every down player on the texans in a 3-4.

Even if we lose Clowney in F/A, we still recoup a 3rd round Comp pick.

Yah, I found that out after... No doubt about this trade... It's a win win.  Absolutely love this John and Pete era of Hawks football... Best ever!

Not sure about a back-up QB or their receiving core but this has the same feel as the 2012 team... Except Russ is a veteran.  Going to be a fun season!

I'm really excited about both the Hawks and Canucks lets go!

Seattle stealing Clooney for two guys on the cusp of being cut and a 3rd rounder (which they can replace if Clowney signs elsewhere).

Would have been interesting to see him with philly, but Seattle's run stop got a huge boost, and they should see pass disruptions too...just gotta hope he stays healthy.

Jacob Martin is no cut candidate.  The Hawks were expecting big things from him this year and into the future.  Pete had been raving about him and lives his motor, compete and power.

If the Hawks either 1) don't win the SB this year or 2) lose Clowney for FA market.  Then I can see this not working out for Seattle..... BUT, I figging love PC and JS!  They are the best management tandem outside of New England's.  They are agressive, smart, and got balls.  Their trades don't always turn out... As a matter of fact they have been on the losing more iften then not but they make up for poor trades with above average drafting and top two in the league developing.

Clowney will fit right in and have made the Hawks a threat to take the NFC west.

    Go Hawks!

    Hmmm?

Has some pretty nasty elbows in the corners from what I have seen. Call it callous disregard for anything between him and the puck.

Has given a head butt as well... But took accountability... Was not happy with his actions... Knows he can't loose his emotions.  I don't think it's in his character to intend to injure...

But yah, he'll run you over to get the puck or take it to the net.
