You can't split up the Man Child and the Fire Hydrant!

Palmu and Gadjovich have natural chemistry. If they're both in the NHL they need to play together.

Hahaha!... I edited my post but you caught the jist right off the bat!

I could see Gadj move up to 3rd line and have Virt and Goldy swap 2nd line to 4th based on team they're playing.

I remember at the begging of the year when we were all looking at the mock draft we knew we needed and wanted a right handed defence man in this draft and a lot of us thought Woo would be a solid pick with our first selection. To get him with our second is a steal. If our prospects can become pros Benning has completely rebuilt the whole team.

    Dahlen Pettersson Boeser

    Goldobin Horvat Lind

    Virtanen Gaudette Palmu

    Gadjovich Madden Jassek

    Hughes Tanev

    Juolevi  Woo

    Tyramkin Stetcher

    Demko

    Di Pietro

We're getting somewhere finally.  This line up has some potential.  Exciting times.

US hockey has been good to us...Brock, Hughes, Gaudette...all studs on their teams.

Lots of success so far with NCAA players including Tanev, Stetcher... Free agents.  This is a game changer though.  Love the high skill, high ceiling, players we're drafting in first round!  What # do you think he'll wear?  What is it.... 43 or U.S.A. #?

Fleury was hurt this year and only played 46 games, the knights were able to get where they were with the back ups they had.  Fleury was not even nominated, so their is zero chance he wins the Vezina this year.  The nominees are Pekka Rinne, Connor Hellebuyck and Andrei Vasilevskiy

Thanks.... Part of why I enjoy coming to cdc... Somebody's got the right info.... Well, in this case at least!

Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy may be part of the future dominate group of goalies.  Along with Demko of course!

I think Fleury was a dominant goalie for 98% of the Vegas G Knights season. That is why they made it to the Stanley Cup finals. Unfortunately his last five games were not dominant.

But to your point, maybe it is because so many pro NHLers are all so damn good now that there is very little that separates the top 10 or 15 goalies.

Yah Fleury had a Vezina kinda year (probably wins it this year?) for sure.... Just not seeing consistently dominating consecutive seasons by any goalie these days.

Regardless I like seeing more goals in games now.  Much more entertaining.  This years SC final was lots of fun to watch!

I honestly appreciate this optimistic energy.

It stands in firm contrast to the usual vitriol of CDC.

But anyone can make bold claims. The names you're using cannot be thrown around lightly. Elias may well skate among them, as he has the highest possible potential you can have as a player coming into the league. He could become the face of the new NHL - he looks to be that good. But he's done nothing in North America yet. He needs time and needs to gain some bruises, climb some hills, etc. to become a special player.

My bold claim is that the Canucks best player for the next 5-8 years will be Thatcher Demko.

    Well put....

A bold statement indeed.  If you are correct then the Nucks will finally hoist the cup.  Like Holtby, if Demko can develop into (bare minimum) a 'clutch' goalie then that should be enough, because I believe the team is drafting and developing the right way.

Is it just me...  Or are there no 'lights out' goaltenders right now?  Sign if the times?  Related to equipment change?  What I'm getting at is maybe the days of the dominant goalies are over... Throwback to the goalies of the 80's (Grant Fuhr). Thoughts?

This is a rather interesting post. McDavid came into the league immediately. So playing in a lesser league prior to being drafted is a pretty moot point. McDavid was on pace to break 82+ points his first year. Followed that up with a 100 point season. And improved upon that with 108 points this season on a bum team. Probably not the best idea to compare EP to McJesus. But who knows, sky is the limit for Pettersson.

    1+

I believe he'll make the time out of training camp.  If he doesn't get hurt... I think he'll end up being a better version of a Marner type of guy.  Elite creativity and seeing the ice.  Slowing or speeding up game tempo by himself.  And have a lethal shot. This will be fun.  It may take some time... but I don't think long.

I think there was another collision were Bos got almost bent backwards?

Bo was one of the greatest athletes to play anything.

Yup that was the one!  On the goal line.  It was such an anticipated match up but ended up being the most lopsided one with Boz never recoving from it.  Yes I agree, Bo Jackson was the most pure all around athlete in our time or any?  The guy never even hit the gym!  Like ever!  Hated it... Just a specimen.

He played PK for Green in Utica

Right.... I didn't watch Jake while in Utica but it showed in the corner battles and how he'd zero in to the puck carrier last year, that he seems to be 'getting it'.  I think Green has the right idea on how Virt can be most effective in the NHL and more specifically the Canucks.  On that note.... Does anyone see Virtanen possibly becoming similar to a Kesler, do to his wheels and potential pk abilities?  I don't know if he will ever have the same compete or drive level Kesler did but close maybe?

Sorry this should probably be asked in Virtanen thread.... Next time! Lol

I am going to jump into this conversation because I am a lifelong Seahawk fan who has thin skin. I absolutely despise being grouped together with Bandwagon Hawk fans because I have been through the tough times of this franchise. The Aaron Curry, Seneca Wallace, and Jim Mora Days. I don't think you give enough credit to the 12's that live in the lower mainland. There are a lot of them.

    https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/eh-game/seattle-seahawks-canadian-fans-integral-part-12th-man-090242049.html

I especially dislike it when Niner or Ram fans talk about Seattle having bandwagon fans when they can barely fill half the damn stadium when the team is losing or even good for that matter (Rams fans I am looking at you). Seattle has sold out 130 games in a row.

Seattle almost had the Hawks stolen from them like the Sonics were. Paul Allen stepped in, bought the Hawks and built them a new stadium.

All due Respect but the blurb that you wrote about Pete Carroll is probably the worst attempt of explaining Pete Carroll's coaching career as possible.

He went 6-10 his first season as a HC and was fired by a toxic owner when he was with the Jets. The next 2 seasons the Jets won a combined 4 games. Had a winning record with the Pats and made the playoffs twice in his 3 years as HC. Went to USC and rebuilt the football program into a powerhouse winning 2 Natty's (probably should have had 4 during his tenure, **** you NCAA and the BCS) and had a historic 34 game win streak which is tied for the longest in Modern CFB history. He then came to the Seahawks and built arguably the best defense of all time, won a super bowl and should have had another. I will defend that playcall in the NE-SEA SB till the day I die. It was an ok playcall that wasn't executed properly.

Pete Caroll doesn't need to prove anything. He is one of the greatest Football coaches of all time and the second best in this generation (behind Bill Belichek). You need to give him the respect that he deserves

Well thin skinned or not, you're a true fan.  I knew about Pete during his USC days but wasn't paying attention during his stints in NY or NE.  Didn't know about his records while he was at those places.  For me, I enjoy the building process the most... Obviously when its done well.  So right now I'm excited to see them revamp their running game.  In hoping Penny is the real deal.  Carson can take 3rd downs and hopefully Prosise can stay healthy and be the utility back.  Having a fullback scheme implemented should help too.  I can go on and on because of all the new faces.... In relation to impact, hopefully this draft class is a lot like the 2012 one!

No, Greener always insisted that it was easier and more efficient to make the defensive side on your strong side. Jake excelled on his offside in juniors due to being much larger, stronger, and faster then the competition. I think if you watch his highlights from Utica last year it is easy to think he played RW. I seem to remember him sniping a few goals blazing up the right side. I'm pretty sure Jake had a habit of crossing the ice in the neutral zone to enter the offensive end last year.

If Jake continues to refine his defensive play, I could see him playing some off wing in the next year or two. I think having Eriksson on the team is a positive in that regards. Loui is a very reliable player away from the puck, and  often plays on his off wing.

Thanks for info... That makes sense.

Defensively he improved dramatically last year, and think if he continues down that path, he may become an elite pk specialist that can create breakaways and generate some short hand goals.  Like you say LE is a good roll model for him.

Of course there are real lifelong Seahawks fans out there, but as evidenced lately plenty have hopped off of the bandwagon now that they are no longer perennial contenders.  I don't remember if Seattle ever came close to losing their franchise, but I still do remember the half empty stadiums every Sunday during a good stretch of the 90's.  They didn't start picking up in attendance until sometime in the middle 00's I believe.

I still have very clear memories of Pete Carroll being a terrible coach with the Jets so the call for a pass that lost them the SB wasn't shocking to me.  Now that they have to rebuild the team we'll see if he is the coach that people think he is or if he is just a coach who rode on a very good team's coattails.  I honestly don't know for sure, but I can't shake the memories I have of him when he coached the Jets.

I didn't watch Pete while he was coaching Jets... Probably a good thing... I'll take your word for it.  He and Schneider built that SB winning team together so I'm hoping they can duplicate it (or something close to it) again.  I'll check in with you next season and discuss it with you then.  Cheers!

Leipsic plays the left side and I would love to see Jake get some time on the left side as well. :)

I wonder why Travis didn't use Jake more on his off wing last year. He did quite a bit in Utica right?

People all over North America have been falling hard and fast off of the Seahawks bandwagon the last couple of years.  Fortunately for the Seahawk owners, their local fans haven't given up yet so they continue to sell-out tickets at home.  Up into the 90's the Seahawks would sometimes play in a half-full stadium.  Not even the locals cared about the team until they started winning.

I'm one of those 'life long fans'.  Started watching them when I lived down there 1986-88.  Dave Kreig, Curt Warner, Steve Largent.... and unfortunately I saw Brian Bosworth get run over by Bo Jackson!  Those were the days! Lol. Lots of losing for a lot of years.  I never fully stopped watching but didn't follow as close through the 90's.  Paid closer attention after they went to SB in 2005.  I watched them draft ET and the next year all the others (LOB) were drafted (I think?) except Bobby Wagner/KJ Wright (year later).  Anyway I had a good feeling about Russel but didn't expect all of them to become so good so quickly.  Sooo amazing to watch them win SB!  Unfortunately all anyone talks about now is not giving the rock to Beast Mode.... A mistake for sure but PC is that kinda coach that takes risks from time to time... And that one sucked!  Oh well... I like what they're putting together now.  Got rid of the malcontents and bringing in a bunch of new blood.  Here's to hoping!  Regardless I'll be here ON THE BANDWAGON. Go Hawks!

  15. Schroeder is barely better than Prab Rai. He's not even worth a thread. Let's put it this way: He is no Cliff Ronning.

Is this what you come up with? You have 880 posts.... is this your usual type of input.... I'll watch for your future posts and see if you have anything more to offer or is this just sarcasm? Anyway, ironically, he may very well turn out to be like a Ronning in the not to distance future.

  16. A grade-A prospect like Jordan Schroeder has to be added to gain any significant piece in return without losing a roster player. That's why you're seeing Jordan's name out there often - because our goal is to win now, and if trading Jordan will get us a piece that will put us over the top, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger either.

I look back to even this year, when that ridiculous trade rumour for Corey Perry involving Cody Hodgson was gaining traction. At the time, and even now, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger to get Corey Perry using Hodgson as one of the pieces because it would make us an unbelievably stacked team.

It's about what gets us the Stanley Cup now rather than how promising a player is.

Look at the Dallas Stars - they traded Jarome Iginla for Joe Nieuwendyk in 1995. Dallas won the Stanley Cup and Nieuwendyk won the Conn Smythe in 1999. Jarome put Calgary's sh!t team on his back and went to the SCF game 7 in 2004. Would Dallas have won a Cup or two if they stuck with Jarome? Maybe - there's a good chance.

But they wanted to win now, and Nieuwendyk got it done. Similarly, if Jordan can bring us that guy that will put us over the top, and even Cody (though his value is much higher), we would pull the trigger.

That's why he's included in the talks - not because we don't see him as a valuable piece in the future - we know and everyone else knows - that's why he's included, since he's a player of value - but because we can use him if necessary to get a piece to win now.

I don't think it will happen, because MG is not looking to significantly upgrade, but if he was, Jordan and even Cody (though to a lesser extent) wouldn't be off the table.

The Dallas Calgary trade took place in another time. There was no salary cap back then. You could buy players and make a stacked team if the owner had money to spend (a la Rangers, though it didn't work). Now is a different time, drafting is the ONLY way in the new NHL to stay competitive. No Gillis shouldn't sell the farm to win now. We are close... so close. It may not be necessary to sell off significant prospects in order to win the cup now. If anyone can do it, it's Gillis. I want Ott!

  17. I'm more excited then I've ever been in relation to seeing our young prospects in main camp. Hodgson, Rodin, Archibald, and Polasek. Rodin will be an exciting player for the Canucks in a couple of years.
