  1. im not disputing your line of thought here. what i am questioning is what makes Marino "quality"? Offence - nope. size- nope. So is he a good shut down d? one that is worth trading one of your best goal scorers for?
  2. But what does he do well? This is what I dont get? How does he improve this team. You are subtracting one of our better forwards, the best forward we had last year, and you are adding a 190lb d man who doesnt generate offence...eating up 20 minutes a night isnt hard to do...i recall stretches when MDZ and Pouliot ate up 20 minutes a night. We already have guys that can eat up 20 minutes a night.
  3. i was referring to Rodrigues (sorry should have made it clearer). 28 years old having a career year looking to cash in. Not a long term solution in my mind. Marino looks underwhelming to me. Sub 190 (according to DB) ...may be a good fit...but we are talking about trading a 50-60 point 20+ goal scoring winger. These are guys you can pick up UFA . These moves dont help this team improve IMHO. MIght as well dump Brock for picks and use the 6.5 - 7 million to go after UFAs and keep guys like Motte around.
  4. What makes Marino any good? Yeah, I get it..contract, but I mean how will he help this team win? Sub 200lbs, doesnt look like he contributes much offence.... So we going to trade one of our better pieces at forward for an underwhelming D man and a third line forward at best? Might as well trade for draft picks and save all the cap to do something impactful with it. I dont get it.
  5. How about Tampa? Miller could be the edge they need to get by Florida and win again. Don’t know their cap situation, don’t know their prospects.. do they have any young D ..
  6. Yup , no doubt. But part of me thinks a big picture management team would have managed to get something out of Edler, Tanev, Markstrom and controlled at least one of their destiny’s by trading them earlier. Kinda like the arguments we are making now for trading Miller while they are in the thick of a playoff race.
  7. When the big two are not on the ice the coilers look like an awful hockey team. Bad defence, bad bottom 6 forwards, bad goaltending as for Calgary, makes my stomach turn seeing Markstrom and Tanev in that awful red jersey. In know it’s irrational to blame Benning but I do … he let two pillars walk out the door for nothing and go right to the enemy.
  8. I hope Brock agrees to a reasonable deal so we can continue to have the entertainment of Eddie’s anti brock diatribes in the gdt’s every time Brock makes a mistake.
  9. This was the moment where Brock found out that air Canada lost his suitcase of hair products from the flight from NY just kidding. Brock turned over the puck which led to a goal. JT was consoling him like a boss and leader.
  10. OJ was a draft mistake, easy to say now in retrospect and looking back at it the choice is probably indefensible. I think they probably viewed Tkachuk as a redundant prospect in light of the fact they had already drafted two wingers in the first round of the previous two drafts. Instead of drafting the best player available they drafted for positional need- and they took the kid that was generally regarded as the best d man available. seemed logical at the time but these types of decisions can affect a franchise for long durations… like when Jimmy Sandlak made Cam Neely redundant and expendable. Sandlak the monster winger who had lit up the world juniors was the horse they bet on.. would have made sense at the time. to me what’s most frustrating is there are multiple decisions that Benning has made that have somehow affected the Calgary flames in a positive way. The Benning regime has somehow, knowingly or not, resulted in the Flames obtaining Tkachuk, Andersson, Markstrom, Tanev, and even Toffoli - that’s a lot of their current foundation. It’s probably unreasonable to view it like this but I need to blame somebody for Calgary’s success this year lol
  11. Would be funny if Calgary picks him up. Not likely but funny
  12. so we are here arguing about how good Brock is, or isnt. Here is a thread from a NJ board, NJ perspective on Zacha. https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/devils-2021-22-team-discussion-news-notes-and-speculation-part-xvi-w-mod-warning-post-28.2869333/page-29
  13. Good Gawd Sam, I once saw Cassels shut down McDavid in Junior like a boss. I once saw Jeff Cowan score 5 goals in 6 games. The sample size here is not large enough, its mind boggling to me that you would think Lammy can take Horvat's reigns. Bo is probably our best overall forward - hes having a so so year. You dont give up on guys like Bo just because of one year. So now hes ready to replace Bo? You are impressed quite quickly, and bring out the noose when things dont go as planned just as quick :-) Proof is in the pudding. if he has multiple attributes that are so much better why has he never a) put up 40 points b) had a higher point total than Boeser in any season, ever. Lets Forget Boeser for a moment.........Zacha was drafted in 2015 and has never put up more than 40 points. Not great for a supposed dynamic powerhouse. I wont argue that this team doesnt need more physical - tougher - players. But if you are going to trade one of your best assets it better be for more than a Zacha and it should address the biggest hole on the team which is D. I respect your opinion here, I just think you are barking up the wrong tree with Zacha.
  14. To get a young impact D man we prob have to give up Miller. I guess my standard of "very good" is a replacement for anyone on our D core not named OEL or Hughes. The bottom line (for me anyway) I dont see the point of trading Forwards for Forwards when the blatant holes are on the back end.
  15. Im not saying dont trade Brock. Im saying if Brock goes a very good D man should be coming back, thats where this team needs help the most.
  16. Everything you and I say is subjective when it comes to who carries the puck better, who sees the ice better. I mean Justin Bailey is faster, carries the puck better, and is stronger on the boards than most of our forwards. But you know what is not subjective? The friggen stats. This , by Boeser's standards, is a down year yet he currently has 31 points...Zacha's best year is 35 points. Now im sure you are going to remind us that poor Zacha doesnt get the same treatment Boeser does (even though Corey posted stats showing he gets favorable zone starts and a boatload of ice time) but the proof is in the pudding. If Zacha was this big strong dynamic player he would put up more points than he has, its not like NJ has been deprived of elite talent since he got drafted. Its not lie he hasnt been given the opportunity...there are blogs written about how NJ management and coaches have tried to get this guy going by playing him up and down the lineup. What is concerning (or more amusing) is how quickly the nooses have come out ... Horvat has been quiet for a few months, Boeser led the team last year in scoring but he is having a down year by his standards, now we want to trade them for 40 point plugs. I even read that Lammikko is a potential replacement for Horvat somewhere in here, as if we know that Lammikko can hold up over the long term taking all those draws and being tasked to face the other teams best players night after night- just because hes an exciting new toy that has scored a bit lately. lol Love the kid, and hope it works out for him, but come on.
  17. But it seems to be a common theme. I’m actually surprised at how many want to unload him.. I know that message boards aren’t always accurate but to me it’s a red flag…
  18. Just reading the NJ boards, Zacha not dressed tonight. Not Covid related, not enough info to know but.. interesting reading NJ fans perspective on Zacha a NOT unusual sentiment it seems (quote from a post) I pray Zacha aint in the lineup tonight because a trade is about to happen. I can't wait for the day to come when I wakeup to read confirmed news Zacha traded for X yeah … doesn’t inspire much confidence to give up one of our best forwards, a guy who led our team in scoring last year, for Zacha. if Brock goes .. please get a dman back… we don’t need Zacha
  19. This argument doesn’t hold water in my mind. How do you know Zacha would have a higher ceiling if he faced the other teams top line/top checkers and top d men like Boeser does. People just assume that if you put a guy on a top line he will magically become better. Maybe there’s a reason that Zacha doesn’t get those opportunities , it’s not like he hasn’t been given enough time. He’s another Steve Bernier with a cool sounding Euro name that people think means high ceiling lol
  20. After watching hockey for so many years do you really need insightful commentary from the Color guy to get what’s going on? I think Garrett does ok and for me I give him lots of rope coz he’s our guy. a lifetime of watching Alberta and Toronto homers on ‘national’ broadcasts has tainted me I suppose. Look at what’s happening now.. Canucks win, shorty says goodbye and 10 seconds later we are watching maple loaf highlights or getting a documentary on the laffs farm team. We are Canadas third largest hockey market and the team gets covered like it’s in the AHL. They are slowly killing all regional coverage. keep Garrett , let him be a Homer, let him talk about fries… it balances it out!
  21. Great shift by BB there. The initial bank pass to get the puck into the zone was money
