  1. I understand that BB has holes in his game. Not fast, doesnt hit, etc etc. but I dont buy this argument. Take Pettersson for example. 9 even strength goals, thats barely more than Hoglander, less than Pearson and Podz. Hes not particularly strong on the puck, doesnt win many board battles, gets pushed around a little more than I would like...are we going to argue that we should give his minutes to Pearson now? Last I checked Petey was 1 point behind BB for production if we combine this season and the last two. I can find the table and post it if you like, but past 2 seasons in addition to this current season (up to and including the Montreal game) the total point production went something like Miller first place, Hughes second place, Brock third place, EP fourth, Bo fifth place. I find it hard to believe that a floater that doesnt deserve minutes and can be replaced so easily can land in third place on this team when it comes to point production if he was so bad - do we really need to pump his tires? Thats a pretty big sample size. Not only that, why doesnt Power Play time count? Isnt the PP part of the game? Or are we only presenting the numbers that make the player look bad. I realize that Brock can improve in many areas, I just dont think that guys like Hogz and Podkolzin can replace his production. Maybe Podz can one day, but Hogs is a no go for me. Hes a penalty away from the coach's dog house, and has never really been a good goal scorer at any pro level. Big teams will maul this team if our primary wingers are 5 foot 10 sub 180 lbs. I think some of you guys zero in on particular guys and are ready to bring out the noose...but if you look at the big picture every player on this team can probably be picked apart the same way. Brock isnt worth 7.5 million, I agree...but if he agrees to 6-6.5 i think it would be wise to keep him.
  2. Who said he’s a top d man? He’s a bottom pair guy who is doing his job and provides great value for what he gets paid with the elements he brings to the game. Imho there are other d men up the ladder that can be improved on- it’s a head scratcher why you are picking on him.
  3. In recent years we’ve seen the team fold after a little adversity. It’s nice to see the team evolve into one that can come back after things don’t go their way early on
  4. Like to add that bang for the Buck he’s been dynamite. Hits, fight, clears the crease. Makes the opposition think twice about taking liberties. He’s doing his job and more for his role on the team.
  5. This is why we need another couple big forwards that can answer these clowns
  6. Washington sure wasn’t playing like this vs the sad sak coilers
  7. Found an article from last year. Looks like an above average defender with below average offensive abilities.....To be fair this is from last year, he could have improved numbers this year.... https://www.pensburgh.com/2021/6/11/22526319/2020-21-season-in-review-john-marino-penguins-stanley-cup-playoffs Compared to 8 D men on his team - 5v5 Even strength play: Corsi For%: 51.2% (3rd) Goals For%: 49.3% (8th) xGF%: 47.9% (7th) Scoring Chance %: 51.4% (4th) High Danger Scoring Chance%: 46.1% (6th) 5v5 on-ice shooting%: 8.4% (6th) On-ice save%: 91.5% (7th) Goals/60: .14 (7th) Assist/60: .27 (8th) Points/60: .41 (8th)
  8. I know he had a good rookie season, but where are you getting this from for this year and last? I’m thinking if he’s such an impactful player why would Pittsburgh give up on an young cost controlled rhd when such players are hard to find and Pitts really don’t have much right hand depth on their lineup? I’ll play devils advocate.. i see a sixth rounder that might have played over his head in his rookie year. He doesn’t generate offence, is the only minus player on their D, and is sub 190lbs. How Does he improve our team when we minus a proven 20+ goal scoring winger (13 goals in 30 games under Bruce) in order to trade for him? I respect your opinions Gent, but if this trade goes down I’m afraid we will be underwhelmed. I’m fully prepared to be wrong about Marino, all I know are the stats I see and what I’ve been reading in here and in Pittsburgh forums.
  9. i know its off topic in here, but this is why I dont want Marino if we move Brock (like the rumors suggest in the other thread). He provides zero offence. One goal this year and thats on a pretty good Pitts team. I agree with you that we cant lose 2 top centers. I also think trading Brock for a D man, then having Miller potentially walk to UFA or get traded next TDL for a lesser return (as he will be a rental at that point) can really back fire here. Thats basically 2/3 of a legit number 1 NHL line gone. I dont know what the return will be next TDL but I doubt it will make an immediate contribution like these guys do right now. Wisest thing IMHO is wait till off season, see what they can do with Miller and then plan around that. I cant see this management team fumbling on both Bo and Miller ....hopefully...
  10. I dont know if you can move Horvat or Brock before you know if Miller would actually sign here. Imagine the hole up front, and the overpayment that will be required in free agency to fill it, if you move BB for a d man and then they cant come to terms with Miller and he walks. Most of your top line is gone like that. Thats why I think nothing will happen till off season.
  11. ive generally agree with you that the most logical move would be to trade Miller for a return that will set this team up for the next decade. But im starting to question my position that this team is a few years away from being a true contender. Are we that far off? To me it looks like they are a top 4 D, and maybe a couple players that add toughness up front while being able to put up 3rd line production, away from taking the next step and challenging the top teams. Theres a lot of good offence up front, goaltending is excellent, 4th line is the best weve had in a decade. Can they push the envelope with this group by adding? How many Miller calibre players have we had in 50 years? This group is making it really hard to decide what to do!
  12. This is the best team weve had since 2013 IMHO. The D still concerns me, but if Brock and EP keep heating up the offence can go a long way in covering up any warts on the back end. 4th line is the best weve had in a long time Offence is great. Goaltending excellent. Are we closer than we think? I keep thinking they are not good enough, but they keep winning. Im glad im not management right now lol.
  13. Keep this group together, if they can sneak into the playoffs who knows what they can do if Demko gets hot. Use the off season to make moves
  14. you make fair points. im trying to find more info on Marino. If hes a solid top 4 rhd then it could be a good move, especially if they throw in Kap....im just a little skeptical right now...guy taken in the 6th round, that doesnt produce much...(i know compared to our D his offence might look good , but outside of hughes the bar isnt really high) Anyhow ,thanks for taking time to respond with some good facts.. cheers
