  1. I like this Miller: https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/jt-miller-absolutely-buries-smith-with-a-huge-right-after-a-dirty-suckerpunch
  2. Just a joke. Original comment was more about OEL...Bear was a place holder. QH and Hronek are clearly the only guarantees for next year. Every other D is a place filler until mgmt decides how to move forward. Could easily see Bear walking. Myers will likely be traded (if they can) and Mgmt needs to decide on which lower level D to keep. OEL makes things tough...can he improve or can he be traded with cap/money retained? More than likely he is on the team but I think they need to put him in a position to be an offensive D-man again and partner him with a defensively responsible D partner.
  3. IMHO the challenge with OEL is that he is an offensive D-man that the Canucks have tried to turn into a defensive D-man. I would love to see him on the third pairing with a defensive D-man and let him loose offensively: QH Hronek Xxx Bear OEL "Schenn type"
  4. Given the moves made, they need to make the playoffs or this mgmt team will be in the hot seat...just the nature of being in Vancouver. Hope the team comes together because I would rather see them develop into a contender soon rather than watch a rebuild. Comes down to can Mgmt target right players and can the coaches bring the room together.
  5. Yup playoffs or bust next year...we all know what happened to mgmt the last time that was the case. At least this group seems to be able to assess NHL players better...when they pay a higher price they get a legit player, and when the target a project they pay a lower price. Hopefully Podz and VK break out next year. Then we can simply focus on worrying about the cap.
  6. Agreed, Horvat's time in Van had expired and the team needed to balance out the lineup. A scoring winger and a top two RHD do that. It will be interesting to see how this team performs next year. Mgmt appears to have targeted specific players so hopefully their scouting of NHL players is better than JB's team. Need some playoffs.
  7. But the picks could be used to acquire the right player from the right team...the team that wants Garland may not have the player needed but have the picks. Worked well with the Horvat trade in terms of getting a top end RHD
  8. And if rumors are true, hard to understand why mgmt won't take draft picks for guys like Garland...the Horvat trade showed that if a certain player can't get you what you want, draft picks can. Hopefully they embrace the two step trade process to open up some flexibility.
  9. I tend to agree, no RHD in the 1st round that were very interesting. Centre is another story, hopefully the lottery gods are with us...would be great to add Fantilli behind EP.
  10. And at least they are acquiring good players relative to what they are giving up...Hronek is top end for a high price, Bear is a solid D for a low price, etc. They are receiving comparable value, unlike the last re-tool where JB's group really struggled with targeting useful NHL players and/or overpaying for sub-par NHL players.
  11. Someone else mentioned Graves as well - would be interesting Hughes Livingstone Graves Hronek OEL Bear
  12. I thought the window was the next year or two? Haha With the contract it would have to be something like Boeser and Garland headed the other way...which is highly unlikely.
  13. But they need top tier players like EP and QH (who they passed over in the draft). They have quantity but don't really have the top end quality yet. I would like the Canucks to be more methodical as well but it will be interesting to see if mgmt can add more Hronek types for next season...tough to do but if the pull it off legendary. End of the day, if mgmt fails with the quick re-tool, they will at least have young assets to trade and rebuild with.
  14. Ya just noticed the contract...would be hard to take that on...cap dumps prices? Haha
  15. So how much would Parayko cost? There were Oiler rumors but that has cooled since they acquired Ek. QH Parayko OEL Hronek Wolanin Bear It would cost a lot but at this point they seem to be all in on turning this around quickly with EP, etc. Edit given Parayko's heavy contract, he might be available for less than I thought? Could be a sneaky good D core. Would be relying on Hronek to elevate OEL (ideally OEL slides down one spot and they can sign a top 4 UFA LHD).
  16. Totally agree, system/details were evident tonight. Was at the game and my thoughts: - Silovs is very poised - Wolanin was steady and impressive in a lot of ways (positioning, board work, pick movement) - System/details were more evident as mentioned - faily low event hockey - EP line was strong but not much offense from other lines (which is fine for now while the team, and especially the young guys, focus on the details) - Despite the goal, Boeser is no longer a fit on this team. Garland is not really a fit either. Team is getting bigger and hopefully more structured - Podz and Raty had a couple interestimg flashes and I like the look of them but significant development is still required
  17. I like Miller and would like nothing more than for him to be part of the team's long-term success moving forward but I worry about this current group's commitment to the details...Miller is a vet and a leader who could build in that accountability throughout the team if he wanted to...but we haven't seen it yet. For the same reason, I am glad they traded Horvat...give a new leadership group a try. Hopefully Miller steps up and helps this team take another step.
  18. Yes, I do have a crystal ball...I can see Blue and Seattle's D core...they look glorious.
  19. I think it is a legit discussion (albeit with a low probability of happening) because the winds have shifted and a team Mgmt thought was a playoff team is instead a bottom of the lottery team.
  20. Nothing against older players but if Miller ends up being the most valuable option to acquire some assets and free up some cap flexibility then mgmt has to take it. If they can move Boeser, Myers, etc. without losing too many assets and retaining too much cap then maybe that is the cap flexibility right their. Not sure that option is actually open. Mgmt could blow all expectations away but the the most realistic outcome is that this team is Cup ready 3 - 5 years from now (i.e. hopefully the team builds momentum over the next three and is ready to challenge). The "vets" are going to be EP, QH, etc. The balance of ages injected into the lineup will be the youth and prospects developed in Abby. There will likely be the odd vet UFA added or traded for as well. End of the day, if Miller stays, I hope he delivers and this team is successful again.
  21. But does he fit the general timeline of this current group though? He is a good NHL player but this team is young and Miller is 30 in March. Feels like cap flexibility over the next three years might be more useful to developing a more balanced team. But if they can move out some dead weight elsewhere and distribute it to the defence and PK, then I would be happy with that as well.
  22. Miller summary - points producer - versatile - cares about winning - long-term $8M cap hit on a "retooling" lottery team - not strong defensively or at consistently following definsive schemes For me, Miller is a very good NHL player, most teams would be happy to have him. But is he the right player for the Canucks at this time? They currently need cap flexibility to build a more balanced team, they need draft picks to build up depth behind EP and QH, and they need players commited to leading by example and playing a strong 200 foot game. So again, Miller is a very good NHL player but if they get an offer of a 2023 1st and a solid prospect, they should take it. Next year they will have a young team, they need to get them to gel together and then after that begin integrating prospects, trade returns and the odd UFA. Kuz EP Beau Garland xx Mik Hogs Studnicka Podz DJ Aman Lazar QH xx (strong defensive partner required) OEL xx (strong defensive partner required) Wolanin Schenn TD Xx Trade Myers Bear Garland Boeser LTIR cap hits Whatever they can
