  1. Haha who has the "captain America fantasy" now. The team needs more balance and a new leader (who can get the team into the playoffs).
  2. Fair enough but the entire point of my post is that Mgmt needs to build a more balanced team so that EP doesn't have to do it alone (not just points but overall effort and compete level as well). In my view, they need to move out Bo to allow real change to happen. We all like Bo as a player but the accountability on this team is horrible and Bo is the leader of that complacency. Ultimately, the team needs to remake the second line, restructure the D (including finding a defensive stalwart for QH, and find a strong third line center). The team will be much more balanced then and EP won't have to do it all alone.
  3. Mgmt need to give EP the reigns and work on convincing him to stay now...they can't wait any longer. Kuz EP xxx Garland xxx Mik Hogs xxx Podz DJ Aman Lazar QH xxx xxx Bear Dermott Schenn (trade and resign as a UFA if he is open to it) Demko Martin Trade Bo, Miller, Boeser, Myers, etc. at the TDL and draft for young centers, D and draft picks. Use the draft picks on centers and D. Focus on a third line center and 3/4 D in the UFA market. Buyout OEL (just eat it and move on). If Mgmt can reduce the cap burden and fill out the five vacant positions, they should ice a much more balanced team. Bo should yield quite a bit. Hopefully at least some draft picks coming back in the other trades. Need to shift the culture and create a more balanced team capable of making the playoffs.
  4. Agreed, hard to see how Colorado is a good trade partner...unless they go all NBA on us and offer 2 or 3 1st round picks.
  5. I agree, Schenn provides more on the team than what he will likely receive in a trade. Go home or big home on Schenn...quite the opposite to some others where addition by subtraction might be best (cap flexibility, attitude, etc)
  6. I would say because it means they are the focal point of the team and will get paid like core players. At this point, that is the only way to sell them a future in Vancouver. If Mgmt commits to selling the other pieces and spends money and trades wisely, the team could be competitive in EP/QH/TDs' 27 - 32 year old range. But mgmt has to start at this TDL.
  7. What if Mgmt handed them the reigns and annointed them the leaders of the team? That might be a good incentive to stay. As currently constructed, this team will not win. Keep EP, Kuz, Mik, Hogs, Podz, QH, Bear, Demko, Schenn and the fourth line. Trade the rest (except OEL b/c he is untraceable) and rebuild around EP, QH and Demko. Best path forward IMHO.
  8. Extension talks began after the 2022 TDL didn't they? I don't dislike Bo but I also see this as anywhere near sustainable...can't see how team can justify signing him to a 8x8+ contract. Need to learn from the mistakes with Miller's contract...both players are support pieces on a good team
  9. Unfortunately, the team needs to win 8 or 10 games in a row just to get back into wildcard position (and only if other teams really drop off). It is an uphill climb to the playoffs this year as a result of their poor start. No one wants to trade Bo but how can this team continue on as is? They need to load up on assets at the TDL and draft. Those assets can be kept to build up the pipeline or used to acquire young assets (provided they are not stop gaps but grade A players). If EP, QH, and TD are the future, the best way to encourage them to stay is to hand them the reigns...this team will not win as is. The team should keep and plan for a 2023 such as: Kuz EP Mik xxx xxx xxx Hogs xxx Podz DJ Aman Lazar QH Schenn (OK for next year but priority should be acquiring a partner for QH) xxx Bear OEL (untradeable) Burroughs Demko Martin TDL/draft trades Miller Bo (salary retained for best return) Garland Boeser (would consider retaining salary for better return) Myers (salary retained for best return) Stillman The team should focus on acquiring young/prospects in the center and D position. In terms of UFAs, the team should focus on third line center and a solid 3/4 defender.
  10. In the long run, if Mgmt can get a bidding war going for Horvat and make the right trade (obviously that is a big if), I would take that over resigning Horvat all day long. A young D, grade A centre prospect and a first rounder (plus additional pick) would go a long way to setting this team up for the future. Horvat's biggest impact is on the PP (goals) and at the face off dot...I think the Canucks can replace that in a much more efficient way.
  11. One thing that did surprise me was that the Canucks are in the bottom six in terms of age - they are already one of the youngest teams in the league. I had no idea. I agree, at this point it does seem hard to see/understand what the plan is but I am willing to give them time. If they aren't going to blow it up, and need to fit in guys like Bo/Kuz, then you have to think Boeser, Pearson and Myers have to go to free up the cap space needed for pay raises and balancing out the lineup
  12. Agreed, if you trade Bo then you try and move on from Miller as well. In my opinion they should have never signed Miller (like him as a player just fine but feel a trade made more sense). With that being said, I believe his contract is buyout friendly the last two seasons. I would rather resign Kuz, add some more young pieces, and invest in one or two solid #3 d men (especially one with size that could play up with Hughes).
  13. Seems like a reasonable review of things Given Dooerrie's responses/comments/etc. over this period, a certain level of entitlement appears to be at play here. If Castonguay said what she is accused of, it isn't appropriate but it doesn't seem to warrant the response we are now seeing from Dooerrie - who seems to be better suited for a less pressure packed industry/job.
  14. I don't think anyone wants to trade Bo. IMHO it is more about the contract size versus what is available by trade. - is it worth locking him up for $7.5 plus million for 8 years? Good player but this year is likely an anomaly and we can't expect this type of production in non contract years. Signing Bo will depend on the trade offers received - if the offers are average, Mgmt might have to bite the bullet. - if Mgmt can procure a young D (ideally RHD), a grade A center prospect, and a 1st round pick, I think they need to take it. Likely in the minority but if the Bo wants a huge contract and Mgmt can yield a return similar to the return listed above then they should trade Bo. The money can be used to better even out the team and with their young core, some grade A prospects will be good additions towards making this a legit playoff team and hopefully a SC contender. Before anyone says it, yes they should have held off on signing Miller first (and should have traded him at the TDL last year or held out and traded him this TDL) - Miller likely would have started the season a lot better if he needed a contract (like Bo).
  15. 180 degree turn is a little early this year compared to last...let's hope they keep it up
  16. Safe to say that the leadership group on this team cannot get them over the hump. Time to get assets so they have enough time to evaluate if EP, QH and TD can lead a competitive/winning team.
  17. At least JT is still a point per game player, should have some value. Horvat and anyone over 25 years old needs to go at TDL or offseason (OEL unreadable). I would potentially keep Kuz and Mik for consistency with EP. Sorry to see Podz is the one out there having to fight guys. If this team put half as much effort into hockey as their Halloween costumes they might be a playoff team.
  18. Unfortunately, he doesn't listen to me anymore! Line went dead when I raised PR concerns and the expected B/S loss in goodwill value.
  19. I noted it wasn't "real" but it was likely a consideration for why mgmt was willing to agree to a seven year deal at $8M. Regardless, it was a mistake any way you look at it and they can't let another TDL pass by without collecting assets by trading any of the UFAs or 26 years or older players they can.
  20. What are you going on about? Was simply informing a poster that Miller signed an seven year contract. Good lord
