      You eat food. For drinks you can imbibe, drink, gulp, sip, nurse, guzzle, and other ways to drink.

       

      Drink is an action, and an item. Food isn't an action, unless it's a food fight. 

       

      Just like you can say "Beer me".  Not too many people say "Single-Malt Scotch me."
