  1. I think the born in BC is slightly over blown.....I think Calgary is about the same distance from Creston as Vancouver, and a quick check says Cagary is 100 miles closer....... But getting to the other more important issue, is what is front of him, in terms of road blacks (aka other prospects, depth of position, age of RHD in the organization etc.) Vancouver does look as an easier road, but Tanev is aging out in Calgary, so they only have Weeger and Anderson on the big club and Kylington sort of toiling back and forth I guess, it makes a difference, but never count your chickens before they hatch. SHOW ME THE MONEY!
  2. I think we have 3 things to achieve this summer.......... #1..............Get our cap under control #2..............a large defensive RHD and lastly #3..............a 3rd line center In that order!
  3. As one of the "Tank" commanders, I am very mixed, in how these last 2 games have impacted my opinion. I commend @-DLC- for her undying support for the players, and I have totally enjoyed the last 2 games, as they have been much more complete games, with great goaltending. But, to win consistently, you need premium players, with no holes in the line up, and for me that is this and next year, away (Meaning we are winning too soon!) If Allvin can move things around, and fill in another defensive RHD, this summer, then great, we are early in filling the holes. I guess, I am in the camp of "what will be will be", but we are not doing our selves any favours, by winning late in the season, while not in a position to be a playoff team. It is counter productive. What I am noticing is more system, and a more structured approach to the games. IMHO, it is that, that will long term, make us more successful. But to reach the top of the pile, we need more talent. We need that 2nd center, long term, and yes we only need a 3rd line center, now, but we have to give the Raty's, Karlsson's time to develop. Much more important is the filling in of our RHD, which has been addressed, and which we have not even seen the player we traded for yet (Hronek), so it is hard to project that impact. I am all for having players feel warm and fuzzy happy, but "Men" will be happy if the teams win. IT is not a short sighted, "OH! we win now, I am happy!" type of thing, only to loose again next season, when the games actually mean something. (That is what frustrates players and makes them unhappy!) Note........look at our early season expectations, and look at the players faces, after they realized, yet another losing season. That is the unhappiness, you seen on Hughes face, and heard in Pettersson's early season comments. Look at the sudden change in attitude, once Tocchet and his assistants arrived. They liked the structure. But again, if we want to be the Leafs of the West, and be one and done, for 10 years, and the remainder of Hughes and Pettersson's careers here, we need to have more talent (Draft) and to fill in the holes. IMO, the warm and fuzzy stuff happens after you are complete, and winning on a consistent basis. @-DLC- I caution you on feeling to good, as Hughes could not survive a consistent 30 minutes a night type of playing rotation. It is another reason, we are winning, over playing Hughes to the extent of actually having 2 Hughes, playing 15 minutes a night. (He is basically hiding the hole in our Defense) His size and frame would not be able to take it long term. (No he is not a RHD, but if he has the puck that much, he is basically defending the hole on our RHD side) In saying all that..............it is what it is. I have enjoyed the games!
  4. Is it just me or is Boeser playing well these last few game?
  5. Oh Yeah, and Demko looks to be back in form.............thank god! (Sort of!)
  6. First off...................Great game! Lots of fun to watch. Secondly.................I hate the friggin Leafs, I hate leaf fans, and I hate Leaf uniforms! I even hate Luke right now!.........I just hate Leafs Thirdly.....................That was probably Myers best game of the year........great hit! So timely! Lastly......................Great team game!
  7. @HighOnHockey What can you tell us about Jacob Truscott If memory serves me right, he played 1st pairing for the US20.....seems like a Defensive Dman? I always thought people were not high enough on him. Thoughts?
  8. In my scenario, both Boeser's buyout and retention are the same, why would you buy him out? Boeser at $4,433,333 is a steal!
  9. Ok, we need some cap space, so what do we do? Trade with no retention, Trade with retention, or Buyout? The Candidates: Buyout OEL 23........................$146,667 24.....................$2,346,667 25.....................$4,766,667 26.....................$4,766,667 27.....................$2,126,667 28.....................$2,126,667 29.....................$2,126,667 30.....................$2,126,667......Total over 8 years = $20,533,336.......average Cap hit Equivalent $2,566,667 Myers 23.....................$5,333,334 24........................$333,334......Total over 2 years = $5.666,668.......average Cap hit Equivalent $2,833,334 Boeser 23.....................$2,216,667 24.....................$2,216,667 25.....................$2,216,667 26.....................$2,216,667.....Total over 4 years = $8.866,667.......average Cap hit Equivalent $2,216,667 Garland 23.......................$838,889 24.......................$838,889 25....................$1,838,889 26....................$1,838,889 27....................$1,838,889 28....................$1,838,889.....Total over 6 years = $11,333,333.......average Cap hit Equivalent $1,888,889 Pearson 23....................$1,416,667 24......................$916,667......Total over 2 years = $2,333,334.......average Cap hit Equivalent $1,166,667 Poolman 23......................$500,000 24......................$500,000 25...................$1,000,000 26...................$1,000,000......Total over 2 years = $3,000,000...... .average Cap hit Equivalent $750,000 So, I realize the cap crunch is next year......It is always next year! And I pose we are much better to retain, than to buyout. So, my conclusions are that a buyout of OEL is too long, and that Pearson's, and Poolman's buyouts are too small. But if we use their average buyout, as a retention number, then most of the above players become, very acceptable, cap hits, for trading teams. (Note...........Garland can be moved without retention, but it would be much like Schmidt, where the trade value was minimum. But here is what each salary looks like, applying the average buyout, as retention number. Candidates New Tradable Contract OEL....................$7,260,000 - $2,566,667 = New Tradable contract = $4,693,333 X 4 years Myers.................$6,000,000 - $2,833,334 = New Tradable contract = $3,166,666 x 1 year Boeser................$6,650,000 - $2,216,667 = New Tradable contract = $4,433,333 x 2 years Garland..............$4,950,000 - $1,888,889 = New Tradable contract = $3,061,111 x 3 years Pearson..............$3,250,000 - $1,166,667 = New Tradable contract = $2.083,333 x 1 year Poolman.............$2,500,000 - $750,000 = New Tradable contract = $1,750,000 x 2 years We will have 3 retention spots, after this season, and IMO, if we are even considering Buy Outs, we should be looking at retentions, instead. The 2 questions are, how much additional cap space do we need? And who brings in the greatest return? Note* The "NEW TRADABLE CONTRACT, is also the cap savings we would have for that player. I would "HOPE" that both Pearson and Poolman, stay on LTIR, and no not enter the discussion. Poolman to the minors, just about saves as much (aka, it really does not move the needle) I would suggest Gritting our teeth and retaining on OEL at a neutral ...Non return type deal. Myers is a perfect trade asset at $3,166,666 for 1 year to another team, and IMO, Boeser becomes a asset at $4,433,333 per year. PS.............WE move OEL before he gets even worse! I see this happening at the draft....thoughts..........................which are tradable, In your Humble opinion..........who brings in the best return?
  10. After Sept 15th he is only owed $1,000,000 for the remainder of his contract, but will have a $6,000,000 cap hit. Basement teams will love him.
  11. Ok............the team does not look that bad! So i am going to suggest 3 pretty simple moves that should help us out for the next 3 years + At the draft.............. Vancouver trades Jack Rathbone and Brock Boeser (1 million retained) to Pittsburgh for Marcus Pettersson In Free Agency Scott Mayfield 30 year old (3 years X $3,500,000 per) If Scheen can play with Hughes at 33 , then Mayfield can do it at 30 (solid Defensive Dman) Luke Schenn 33 year old (3 years X $1,250,000 per) This contract is a reward and statement contract, one who shows the young guys what team loyalty can bring) Jake Livingstone 3 years at $925,000. This is actually done immediately after his season is over! (May?) September 15th......after paying Tyler Myers his $5,000,000 bonus, we trade Myers Kuzmenko..............Pettersson..............Beauvillier Mikheyev...................Miller....................Podkolzin Garland......................Raty....................Kravtsov Joshua......................Aman...................Lazar Studnika Hughes...................Mayfield Pettersson..............Hronek OEL.........................Bear Brsiebois.................Schenn Demko Silovs This is a approx. $83,000,000 Cap hit of a $83,500,000 Cap Ceiling
  12. Ok, now that I have had to digest this trade, I am going to look at this trade as a "Glass half Full" trade........as stated above, Hronek is a legit top 4 Deman, possiblity a top 2 Dman. So, when you look at the total picture, we need a Defensive RHD for the first pairing, and a Defensive LHD for the 2nd pairing That is up 1 from only having Hughes as the only legit defenseman on the team. Now, first off, Hronek is 25 and will not be 26 until November of next year. I give him 7 years, as a ligit top 4 Dman. That is 33, after that, anything is gravy..........but that is 7 years! So, we seem to have a great forward group, that can compete with anyone, we have a starting goalie in Demko, and an up and coming one in Silovs, so when you look at the big picture of things, we are not that far away. Point #1.............we acquired a legit RHD. He will be the second best Dman on the squad. Point #2.............we are only 2 defensive Dmen away from having a pretty decent top 4 Point #3.............we will be picking a very good player in the draft, and even if we rise, we will still have a decent prospect...IMO, think Dvorek, Moore, Yager, or Reinbacher (I would be happy with any of them) Point #4.............IMO, our current prospect pool is stronger than is being given credit for........I compare Brisebois to Mayfield on the New York Islander (a late bloomer. (I would like to see him kept up, at least until he shows he can't handle it) (IMO, he is showing he can handle it) Point #5.............we have a few prospects that may be able to play with Hughes......(RHD Filip Johansson, and this is not including possible target UFA senior Jake Livingstone) Point #6.............we also have Truscott and Pettersson, who both can play defense, and are both showing they are solid Defensive LHD This is not including any UFA defenseman that might fit that bill, if we can clear enough cap. The point is, we have obtained a solid RHD, that is here now, and is a bonafide NHL Dman (That can not be said for the picks, who we would be waiting for anyways). Am I disappointed losing the picks........In more ways in one! But If management is going against my wishes, this is not a bad trade.
  13. Have you ever laugh cried? Where you are both happy and upset at the same time. Well, I am there! IMO, this sends a clear message that the Canucks are not rebuilding, and that they are not worried about where they pick. probably no later than 12th, and sure should not be 6th, with this addition. IMO, this has Aqualini's hands all over this. It also means that they can not move Boeser like they wanted to. I would also say, there is zero chance of Miller being traded. They have made their bed. It also gives me a feeling that Livingstone will be signed here? Because the Canucks would have either used their Islander pick or a 2nd to pick a RHD for the farm, and that is not going to happen now. Kinda sucked all my happiness away! PS........I do like Hronek. Sure hope he doesn't flop! LOL
  14. So, as of today, we have the 6th, 18th, 38th, 70th, 102, and 122, picks in the first 4 rounds I am wondering if we get a better player, adding our 3rd and one of our 4th's together, to get another second? I wonder how far, we could move that 3rd round pick up, by adding that 4th round pick to it? Is it worth it? I feel it is, but wonder what other think. Is it realistic?
  15. And this is why I love this thread. people like yourself, and others that dig into much deeper than I. The insight I get from you guys, causes me to dig deeper, and get a better understanding. It is my favorite thread. I am admittedly a parrot in this thread, because, I do not watch tape like yourself. But I do read alot. I am more a builder, and I feel pretty confident on what is needed on a team. It is why I am so excited about the Canucks, they honestly just need to fill holes. (Important holes), but it is not our young players that pose the problem, it is the way they were build, and how premature Benning was in trying to finish. Far too impatient. But, live in the here and now..................we need to hit home runs in this draft. I do believe in BPA, but that is very subjective, which is proven every draft, as every team has their own list. My interest is not in being right on the draft, but looking at players that fit "My narrative". I believe very strongly in tiers, and again, BPA is soft within those tiers, which gives you the ability to reach within a tier. I also, do not believe in the adage of draft the BPA, because you can then trade him for what you need. That happens so rarely, if at all. And if a prospect is worth his salt, the team that has him, just will not give him up........case in point, where NYRangers, would just not give up Schneider in trade for Miller...........so an unproven prospect can not get a 100 point player....lol. But that is how cemented in these teams get. So, please never take what I say as questioning you, but more questioning myself, and trying to establish if my belief is solid, or if it is shaky. Like I say, I just love this forum. I also like to question you guys to see how solid you are on your opinions. It has made me question myself more than once. With the sincerest Thanks. JIAHN (Paul) Thanks to all the posters here! Really informative!
  16. Yeah, as I was counting Dmen in the top ten of each year, I noticed that earilier, there had been a exaggerated amount of flops. LOL, we with Juolevi contributed to that. But in the end, I think the 3 I mentioned earlier, will be the 3 that push the hardest for the top 10. They may be 9, 10, and 11, for all we know, but I think the trick is to wait and see how the final reports and rankings look. Who knows? Maybe this is the year that there are no Dmen in the final 10? I doubt it though. I have noticed that in the past 10 years, there less and less flops, because of the trend to get away from the eye test, exclusively. Analytics, are starting to take some of the error out of the rankings, and it is becoming more of a science? More eyes as well. What do you think of that? PS....one last thought, maybe the delay on the top defensemen is that are mostly European, this year....causing a greater need to see them longe, before making that final move?
  17. Hey, thanks for the tag! I kind of agree that is what I am reading, from everywhere But, I have a question Has there ever been a draft where there has not been 2 or 3 defenseman in the top 10? It can't be many times, if ever, that I can recall. Never say never, but it is early, and I am just saying! (Asking) So since 2000.........1 draft had 1 Dman in the top 10, 3 others had 2 Dmen, all the other had 3 or more, with 1 having 8 Dmen in the top 10. I would find it strange that the final draft did not have 1 or 2, possibly 3. ................Pellikka, Reinbacher, and Gulyayev...the jury is still out on this. But I get it, there is alot of great offensive forwards in this draft............which is why I say, lets wait and see what the final rankings look like. I am not saying I am right, only that it is worth considering............Love your knowledge, and am not questioning it, or your amigos on here either... Just a interested party!....That Islander pick is getting a pretty nice prospect!
  18. Totally Devron......Particularly Brisebois....very defensive
  19. I see it differently....... If the jets let it get to the summer, and it blows up in their face. They loose position and Montreal knows for sure Dubois wants Montreal. That weakens Winnipeg's position and return, because it will signal to the other 30 clubs that Dubois intends to go to Montreal. What team would trade for him? It would be exactly like the Kessler deal, where he forces our hand, and basically minimized our return. Please let me know if you feel otherwise. Because I think Montreal will not want to give up Guhle, or anyone else of value, once everything is confirmed. What else does Montreal want to give up? Certainly not their captain...........and nothing else compares with Miller and a Lekkerimakki to Winnipeg.........except futures, which does not help Winnipeg now, in their win now mode.
  20. Exactly where did you hear that, other than the media, like me?
