  1. That's exactly what I was getting at. Sedin's have a tendency of becoming more perimeter type players come playoff time, We need someone with size that can drive the puck to the net and make life hard for a goalie. Not just stop the wristers from the outside with no traffic of fear of rebounds.
  2. I'm going to ask a serious question and I only want smart, well thought out answers. Why does everyone think this team needs a top 6 goal scorer come playoff time? Now before you answer with how I know everyone is going to answer. -Bos 8 goals in 7 games -LA 8 goals in 5 games -SJ 8 goals in 4 games What reasoning is there that our team doesn't score come playoff time against those teams? We don't seem to have trouble against CHI, NSH, or even SJ in 2010 so why those teams? The Penguins only scored 3 goals in 4 games against BOS last year. Do they need to go out and get more scoring? Now while your thinking of the response try to remember what everyone said was missing on our team in 2010.
  3. Either you think Gillis has done a decent job or you hate him for some reason. All I ever hear is “we’ve had this hole since our cup run and he’s done nothing to fix it.” What is everyone asking him to do? Trade and acquire a top 6 forward that meshes in with this team. All without removing the core that made the cup run in 2011. Guess what Gillis has done that. Booth prior to his injury was producing at a 50 point pace. Is it Gillis’ fault that he has ran into injury problems, not at all, by a GM’s standard he acquired a player that was needed to fill a hole. Booth also had size as an upside that helped drive a puck to the net. Again by a Gm’s stand point he did everything right with that trade. Booth gets hurt, so what does Gillis do next, he brings in a constant 50 point playmaking center to set up and give Ryan Kesler some support. Something everyone is calling for. “Kesler isn’t producing like he used to give him someone more to play with than Raymond” Done, Roy is brought in. From a GM’s stand point he’s done exactly what he’s needed to. Add the missing elements to our roster without disrupting the core that was one game away from the Stanley cup. To say he hasn’t done anything to add secondary scoring is a complete joke. The players he’s acquired may have not turned out, he’s done his job, the play of the players he’s traded for is up to the coaching staff and the players them self to turn out. It’s not like he hasn’t tried to address the issues of secondary scoring. A lot of players don’t work out. Roy this year is on pace for over 50 points. What, “it’s Gillis’ fault he didn’t mesh with Kesler”. WSH traded for Erat for secondary scoring, Toronto signed Clarkson, Columbus traded for Gaborik, PIT traded for Iggy. Not every trade works out the way it intended, and a lot of the time it has nothing to do with the GM’s miscue of it not working out. To sit here and blame Gillis, is to sit blind and not look around the league to see what goes on with every team. Hossa flopped around with three different teams (still was an impact player) before having things work out for him in CHI. Again I’ve already posted a list of all the players who’ve been traded since our cup run 2011, that have produced at a 50+ point pace. There were 19 player and Vancouver has had 2 of them on their roster. Any of the other players out of the 19 would have cost us more than the scraps we gave up to acquire Roy and Booth. I’m sure Gillis has had the opportunity to acquire a top six scorer since 2011 but it would likely have created another hole on our team that you and everyone else would be complaining about. As a GM we should be happy for having a good GM like Gillis, we could be in Toronto situation where their future relies on 3 guys who I would never want to build a core around. We could have Holmgren who throws money around just for fun, or even be in a situation like EDM or CAL where they already haven’t made the playoff in 5+ years and who knows when the next time they will ever ice a competitive team. Remember when people were praising Feaster to signing O’Reilly to an offer sheet. What more can you ask for than a guy who’s built a team that consistently makes playoffs with an aging core and is starting to stock up top notch prospects for the future. I think it’s more of a case that everyone has forgot what it’s like to miss the playoffs year after year and cheer for a team that gives little in return to the fan. Quit your whining everyone Gillis has easily been the best GM this franchise has ever seen. You’d all find something to complain about even if we won the cup back to back in 2011 and 2012 but still happened to get swept by the sharks last year.
  4. Not at the olympic, something taken very seriously. And that's what your theory relies on. He knows how to out smart the world Olympic committee who sole job it is to enforce this rule of zero tolerance of PED, but the good ones all know how to get around it. Strong basis.
  5. You do realize hockey isn't a game that the strongest are the best. We'd have teams full of George Laraque's running around. PED do not improve the natural hockey sense and skill set. Something a player like Patrick kane has. Kane the same player who won the conn smythe last year as the best player in the playoffs. And before you go off thinking PED make super players. Just remember captain America is a mov
  6. Keith is a Canadian Olympian meaning they test for that and would be kicked off the team. So nothing.
  7. Your right he must have been on PED beucase he has such a great rookie year. But wait he must still be using them since he's having a better year this year. BUT he was also hoping and had a chance at making the US olympic roster and they test for PED's at the Olympics. Why would he continue to use it knowing he couldn't play in sochi?
  8. What a joke of Canucks Homerism at its finest. No matter how you look at it Kassian deserved his suspension for what he did to Gagner. Marchard the rat low hits salo and gets 2 games. Hammer and Ballard have done the same thing in the past and have only got "clipping" calls for. Every team including LA and TOR believes the league is out to get them and misses "calls, suspensions" not just the teams that don't win
  9. The only benefactor CHI receives is by having drafted great franchise players after being terrible for so long, Just as PITs has benefited from Sidney. From personally knowing Keith hawks are just a hard working team, with a good mixture of skill, youth, and leadership , you can't honestly compare Vancouver roster and CHI and no think that they are the better team
  10. I can’t believe this thread is still going. What a waste of everyone’s time. Good coaching allows players to develop at a quicker pace. Bad coaching like AV is benching the player after they make a single mistake. Then there is terrible coaching. Aka Oilers who let their young players down whatever they want. You continue to pick and choose the facts. Why doesn’t every player CHI draft “mature almost instantaneously into full-flight NHLers”. Go back and look at all their misses. Mikhail Yakubov 10th overall, Cam Barker 3rd overall, Jack Skille 7th overall are just a few. What happened to them? Team pick players knowing how close and ready they are to enter the NHL. Calgary pick Jankowski knowing he was 4-5 years away, Burke stated he wanted Reilly knowing that he’d soon have an impact in the NHL. Did you not watch the playoffs last year? Game 7 the refs nearly cost the Hawk by a completely ridiculous blown whistle after the Hawk score the go ahead goal with less than a minute. Doesn’t seem like something you’d do if you’re doing everything possible to make that team win. Like most conspiracy theories, people pick and choose the facts that only benefit there statement but yet blatantly ignore all the other obvious facts.
  11. To everyone that is writing of this team in the middle of January with a record of 23-13-9. You are the definition of a primadonna fan. Plan the parade when they win, write them off when they lose. Do you expect them to win every game? Go a full season of 82-0-0. Some loses hurt more than other and we’ve had two painful loses in a row. But if you truly think about it. PIT and ANA are what everyone believes are true cup contenders and we’ve had both of them down by a goal with less than 2 minutes left in play. I’ll take that as we can compete and have what it takes to beat the best teams in the league. Besides It’s best we get over this last minute break down garbage in regular season than compared to doing it in playoffs. On top of that, I truly believe having a player like Burrows on the ice with less than a minute left up by a goal greatly increase our chances of pulling out the victory. Everyone needs to step back take a breath and try not to overreact about a 1 goal loss where we were the better team.
  12. Maybe we miss Edler and Burrows more than we think.
  13. Refs needs to learn to play a 60 minute games as well. Two minutes left and they put there whistles away thinking the game is over. Neal retaliates on Hammer after being played well on the 1 on 1 then 20 seconds later santo gets hauled down by two different pens. No calls and a PP with less than 2 min left up by 2 goals, that would have iced the game. Canucks still should have had that, just brutal. How can we be so good on the 5 on 4 and so brutal on the 6 on 5
  14. This is the dumbest logic, What’s Gillis supposed to do get rid of them because he didn’t draft them. Does the next Pits Gm get rid of Crosby and Malkin because he didn’t draft them, there for not the team he built. Come on now. All the players you’ve mentioned have been resigned by Gillis, meaning he’s had the option to move on from them if he wanted to. But instead he’s provided better opportunity for those players to achieve their potential. Don’t believe look at the break out year for each of the players you’ve mentioned all (except Luongo) in the Gillis era. For all we know Burke or Nonis would have giving up on the twins, Kesler, Burrows, and traded them off prior to them all hitting their top potential for a lower return. Look at Kardi, Burke leaves after calling him fat and lazy and he finally gets a chance and has a really good first year in the NHL. If Burke was still GM he’d be still in the AHL considered a bust. I guess with your thinking every time a new GM is hired there should be a mass roster movement. I"m not Gillis homer but this Gm has provided Vancouver with the most successful and consistently competitive team we have ever seen in this franchise, and this fan base still finds a way to complain. We haven't missed the post season in what 5 years and we still hear the whining, I think people are forgetting what it feels like to have a team that's not competitive, a team that doesn't make the playoffs, and a team that gives little to cheer for, it wasn't that long ago.
  15. Nash is there because every time he puts on a Canadian jersey he is always one of the best players on the team
  16. There so much stupidity in this thread. We have just came off a president trophy 2012, did we get knocked out earlier in post season to the kings? Yes, tell me which team didn't. Does that mean every NHL GM is terrible? 2013 we have a shorten season where half our team didn't go over seas to play and a full year of Luongo vs Schneider. The team this year is what 23-13-8 and everyone is losing their minds. We just set a franchise record month in Dec, lose a couple games by a single goal all within the last 2 minutes, and nope this team is a far ways away from cup. News flash even good teams have bad games. LA has 1 win in their last 6, Ana had a stretch where the only won 3 of 12 games, SJ had a stretch where they won 2 of 8. You don't see their team's GM panicking making "bold" moves. Did ANA, CHI, SJ go out and make a big moves in the last two years. No, their teams core has been aging hitting their prime, and becoming more mature, while our team is getting older and worn down from being at the top for so long. What time in the last 10 years has there been a team at the top for so long as what the canucks have been. And everyone screams Gillis make a bold move and try to acquire someone to fill our holes, He did that with Booth, Ballard, Roy, and Kassian. Should be be more like Holmgren and make a move just to make one? Which top six snipers with size is available at a cost we can afford. Honestly, please tell me? What makes a top 6 player? I think we could all argue that a top 6 players should be expected to put up 20-30 goals and about 50 pts. Sound reasonable? Since are 2011 cup run there has been a total of 18 players that have been moved that have put up a point pace higher than 50 points in a season. 2011/12 Cammalleri Turris Brouwer Carter 21 goals 34 pts in 55 games Booth 16 goals 29pts in 56 games Richards 2012/13 Pominville Derek Roy (on pace for 57 points this season) Iginla Ryder Nash Van Riemsdyk Staal Ribeiro 2013/14 Vanek Moulson Seguin Ryan Out of these players which ones would have fit on our team? Now go back and look at the cost to aqcuiring one of them. Would we have been willing to part with Kesler, Burrows, Edler (at the time of the trades, Tanev wasn’t a top 4 yet), 1st round picks (Horvat, Shinkaruk, Ganuce)? The only bold move that has really worked out for any team is Richards and he cost a crap load to give up. People will argue Carter but he got a whopping 8 goals in their playoff run. Since 2011 Canucks have acquired Garrison, Booth, Richardson, Santo, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Roy, Ganuce, Kassian. I'm sick of hearing the Gillis is chicken, terrible, blah blah garbage. So what this team isn't winning the presidents trophy and beating every team with ease this year. You don't like it go cheer go cheer for flames Burkes built a lot of consitently successful teams, How about the oilers who've had the revolving door of GMs. Holmgren is a beauty in PHI. Mcphee is good at young trading future stars for washed up Erat. Or best of all cheer for Nonis, he's for 3 players locked up for 7+ years and still doesn't have a 1st line center. We have are ups and downs all we need is to come hot at the right time. Playoffs, Can't wait for this team to make a big run this offseason and watch everyone who's screaming for Gillis head jumping back onto the bandwagon cheering for the team he has built.
  17. You mean lose by one goal and less then 2 minutes away from winning.
  18. Tired team, playing with a short bench. Great game by lack
  19. Sure we can we just did compete against the kings. it wasn't like we got completely outplayed.
