Boy does the Goldobin contract look good...
Not only did Colorado Joe sewer some picks to land him... But also paid him 3.25 LOL
2019-Jun-28 Traded from Washington Capitals to Colorado Avalanche for Scott Kosmachuk, round 2 pick in the 2020 draft and round 3 pick in the 2020 draft
Would like to personally thank Colorado Joe for not working for the Canucks. Maybe I'll send him a gift basket?
Long live Nikolay Goldobin
Dude that Duchene trade was highway robbery they got Girard, Byram, Kamenev and Bowers for Duchene. Highway robbery.

Vey was a good player. He had good AHL stats and he did produce for Vancouver, although much of the hate seems to be HOW he was deployed by Desjardins. He was definitely "gifted" minutes but did the Canucks really have another option? Our prospect cupboard was so bare. We literally did not have any younger players to fill the gap.
They could've signed a UFA
-
Really wish we would've kept that picked and signed a player in free agency to play the role that Vey played. We could've gotten Donato or Montour had we kept that picked. McKeown isn't anything to sneeze at either. I think he can still be a bottom pairing guy and a solid 2nd unit PP QB

I'm pretty excited about OJ. He's actually a big kid, and everything I've seen for the most part is a kid wth a lot of poise. I don't think he's going to be flashy but just be really good at getting the job done.
Just like Hampus hopefully.

I"m sure thats what JP and CAR are thinking
Holland really doesn't have much bargaining power, other than he's shown he'll be patient. I guess thats enough for this situation.
I don't think he'll play here unfortunately but I'd love to have him
Hopefully Juolevi can be the Hampus Lindholm-like player he was drafted to be!

sure but Goldy also had 23 goals in the AHL too, and Goldy has proven he can put up some points in the NHL. But looking at the physical potential EMD probably would go with Gauthier even though I think Goldy could likely start scoring points right away. We don't know what Gauthier is yet in the NHL.
Teams may just let EDM hanging and not offer much at all.
JP is a great fit in Carolina though with fellow countrymen Aho and Teravainen

I guess if EDM is stuck on getting a larger winger we don't have much to offer. I do think Goldy would fit in with them but then its probably a 2020 2nd round pick going too which I don't really want to see happen.
Julien Gauthier has more upside than Goldobin by miles though
If I'm Carolina I'd offer Edmonton Jake Bean for Puljujarvi if I could get a bit more compensation from Edmonton. Gauthier is too promising IMO to trade for Puljujarvi, although Puljujarvi has the potential to be a star Gauthier has the potential to be just as good and he's putting up far better AHL numbers than Puljujarvi.

I wouldnt. Im only trading JV in a package for a star/elite player or a player in the mold of Josh Anderson, Max Domi orrrrrr that Seth Jones guy, i heard hes pretty good lol
Virtanen will eventually be just as good as Anderson IMO

Friedman mentions that Carolina could offer a prospect like Gauthier - he was 21st overall in 2016. He just had a 27 goal season in the AHL (41pts). They are not so keen on doing the pick though.
He'd be a great fit with the 'Canes
They're a young team and they have a Finnish Centre in Aho that JP can play with

Per Friedman Edmonton insists that they will only move Puljujarvi if they get exactly what they want - a pick and a prospect. Carolina and Tampa are teams that they have been in discussion with. He suggests Gauthier from Carolina. Puljujarvi also does not want to play in Canada - he wants to go to a quieter market in the USA.
Kekaleinen says Wennberg was great at the Worlds playing C1 for Sweden and believes he will rebounds. Says he simply had a bad season and there's no reason he can't play like he did at the Worlds. Says it's bigger ice but competition were NHLers.
Maybe we could trade Loui for Dubinsky instead? He's much worse than Wennberg but he can still play in the 3C role to replace Sutter or he could shift to LW and play in our bottom six. I think Columbus would be great for Loui to re-start his career

Is JP just not an NHL player then? McDavid and Draisatl are pretty good.
It's the Oilers coaching and development which is the ACTUAL problem. They've had a carousel of coaches and GMs over the past few years which isn't good for young players. Remember Nail Yakupov? He was supposed to be the next Pavel Bure! They friggin' ruined his career! How about Rob Schremp? He was supposed to be a star! If someone doesn't trade for Puljujarvi soon he'll be another player the Oilers have absolutely wrecked. JB should step in and get TG and our development staff to work with him and turn him into the star player he was projected to be!

Even Wennberg's contract is $1.1 cheaper than Eriksson's, has no clauses and no signing bonuses. Despite his performance, his contract is much less egregious. We have to retain on the first deal or add more.
I say no the second deal because I'm not sold on Puljujarvi and Baertschi is a proven low-end top six forward.
The third deal is the closest, but I don't think Sutter quite has that value yet. Maybe if he starts the year off strong. Either way, I'd rather keep him, because Gaudette is not NHL-ready. Given your other trades, we have options, but taking your trade on it's own, it leaves us with Gaudette as a 3 or 4C in the NHL.
Maybe retain 18.3% of Eriksson's salary to bring his cap hit down to $4.9 Million. We don't save any cap room but Wennberg is a much more promising player than Eriksson. If Wennberg turns his play around we could potentially trade him next summer for some futures.
Puljujarvi is a star in the making who's being ruined by the Oilers terrible development staff. Obviously Ken Holland will be able to improve the Oilers development staff but Puljujarvi at this point needs a fresh start with a new organization. I think he would do really well on a line with Pearson and Horvat.
I really think we need to do what we can to get rid of Sutter because he just isn't performing with our team

Loui Eriksson gone without paying a draft pick OR retaining cap? Is NHL 20 out already and did they make it even easier to make trades in it?
I don't think you realize what an albatross that Wennberg contract is bud

Could do. Don't know if he has played there or not.
I think he did in Sweden.
it's a lot easier for a centre to shift to wing than a winger shifting to centre like Drouin in Montreal

Columbus might want a center prospect instead, maybe Gaudette and Loui for Wennberg.
If the Canucks do end up with Wennberg they'll need to move Suter or Beagle.
They could shift Wennberg to the wing.

True, but he is younger and plays center. Had a very good year a couple back with 59 points.
I don't mind the idea but as Jimmy said, I think it would take more, be it retained cap or whatever.
Maybe a pick or a prospect or something? How about Goldobin?

Reality?
No retention on Loui seems
a bitway out there.Keep in mind Wennberg is on a longer contract than Loui

To Vancouver:
C Alex Wennberg
To Columbus:
LW Loui Eriksson
Reason: Wennberg isn't fitting into Tortorella's system and needs a fresh start. Eriksson is more of a serviceable player for Columbus. No salary retained. Wennberg slots in as our 3C. He's more of a offensive player but Pettersson and Horvat's strong two-way play makes up for Wennberg.

To Vancouver:
RW Jesse Puljujarvi
C Kyle Broadziak
To Edmonton:
LW Sven Baertschi
VAN 3rd 2020
Reason: I think Puljujarvi is a star in the making. Edmonton has a horrible player development program. We can send Broadziak to Utica where he can slot in as their 2C. Baertschi is good but we have a surplus of wingers like him and Puljujarvi is a potential star power forward who I would compare to Todd Bertuzzi.

To Vancouver:
TOR 3rd 2020
To Colorado:
C Brandon Sutter
Reason: Colorado gets a good defensive player to take on some tough minutes for MacKinnon and Kadri. Tyson Jost can develop better as a winger for Sutter. Vancouver clears more cap space for Boeser

Right handed defender. More of a stay at home guy. I guess the Panthers need depth on their backend and Minnesota wanted to free up a roster spot.

What if we did
Eriksson, Tanev and rights to Boeser
for
Ryan, Hainsey, 1st rd 2020 ( lowest of the 2 top 5 protected), 1st 2021, 2nd in 2020 & 2021
Teams cannot trade players they just signed as free agency. It's bad for optics. This isn't the NBA
We still need Tanev
Boeser is a core player for our team going forward.
