hopefully Megna isn't back next year. seems like we have more than enough that he becomes a depth guy. sign him for AHL. but not for an NHL roster.
If we can acquire more depth Megna won't be here, maybe in Utica but not here.

Markstrom has to be given some games before this season comes to an end. and management have to force Willie to play Markstrom more. he's almost 28 years old and hasn't had a sniff to prove whether he can be a starter in this league or not. times running out for him. if Miller is brought back. I can't see how Willie changes his way with his roster deployments. if anything he continues with the way he's been coaching his year. i can't stand his addiction to Megna. what the &^@#. Megna has 10 points this year. TEN. and he's often playing in roles that he shouldn't be put in. I don't understand Willie's logic. that man has to go.
The whole Megna thing is management's fault.
We simply do not have enough young players in this organization to play instead of Megna.

Looks like we've got a future no.1 goaltender on our hands.
Hopefully Markstrom can be a good stop-gap while we wait for Thatcher to develop.

Best Mike Gillis moment lol

Trevor Linden is a terrible choice for a position that isn't similar to where Yzerman started in Detroit.
Brendan Shanahan, Marc Messier and Wayne Gretzky are where I'd look for player icon President and GM types. Y'all need to remember that there is probably going to be only one hiring, not two. The Aquillnis don't need another mouthpiece because they already had that. I'm fairly certain that they don't really think they're hockey savvy.
They want someone who is going to bring respectability back to Vancouver. For those of you that read Messier, you need to remember that the Canucks could rebuild many burnt bridges by bringing him into the fold. His presence would probably necessitate a Sedin trade and it's hard to say how feasible that is(How do you move $14 million locked up in two players who always have to play together?)
-
Brendan Shanahan should be the obvious choice
-
We definitely need a Canuck great come in and be the President of Hockey Operations
-
He should be gone for all the reasons you just listed. But knowing ownership they will bring him back and Torts will be the one that gets fired.
His new age ideas, the signings of collegiate players, adding Tortorella to coach the team, signing Sundin, getting Hammer and letting Ohlund go.... letting Mitchell go
Those moves have been magic and I don't think MG should be fired. Also, the fact that he managed to get something for Luongo is a big redeemer for me.
Call me crazy, I don't think Torts is the problem and I think Gillis deserves to stay here and set the course for this team. Keeping him as Team President has the added benefit of providing a shield from our intrusive ownership group.
-
I think we keep Mike Gillis as President.
When you look at the framework he's set for the team, it's great, the guy just can't develop players, he's not very good at drafting and he just can't make trades. We need a good hockey guy with scouting acumen running this team. The draft isn't a crapshoot, neither is player development, you just need a guy who can get it right.
-
I think Torts is there to groom Gulutzan to be the eventual head coach coach.
Gultzan seems to be a guy that possess traits similar to a lot of former coaches. I also think Sullivan stays on as Gulutzan's associate and they get a new special teams guy in there.

What if we used some of the proceeds of the Kesler trade to move up to #1 in the NHL draft?
That way we'd be getting Sam Reinhart, who's from Vancouver and has exceptional playmaking ability. He's also got a physical aspect to his game, which we've been missing at our No. 1 centre spot for years. We're almost guaranteed at that point to have a solid Reinhart-Horvat 1-2 punch down the middle for the next 15 years to replace Henrik and Kesler.
Also, by acquiring Sam Reinhart we'd make ourselves an attractive free agent destination for Griffin and Max Reinhart.
-
We're not getting Drouin or Hedman from the Lightning because it would totally defeat the purpose of them making the deal.
NYR 1st, Connolly and maybe another piece. Tampa Bay becomes an instant cup contender. Not to mention, they've got a really solid top 5 forward group of Stamkos, Drouin, Kesler, Filppula and Callahan.
-
I'm thinking if we get Emerson Etem coming our way, that's a road that we should probably be going down.
-
We cannot trade Kesler to Anaheim that would be a terrible idea
-
Not sure what people were expecting, we just got a great young goaltender and a top 9 forward. That's not a bad return, not to mention the $800,000 salary retention is a bargain if Luongo can play out his contract in Florida at least as a backup. We're basically fine unless he goes on LTIR, which would be absolutely catastrophic to our organization.
-
I think we're looking pretty good with two young goaltenders like Markstrom and Lack working under a goalie coach like Melanson.
-
Bennett, Pouliot, Sutter and a 1st. That's what it would take, make that clear to Pittsburgh and that's non-negotiable or we go elsewhere.
Brandon Sutter can't do what Ryan Kesler, he's a Higgins-Hansen type who can play more defensive oriented minutes. We're going to need to give some of those minutes to young guys eventually.
-
Wouldn't call that interesting. I would call that another attempt to knock down Kesler's value. "Kesler is worse than Staal offensively and defensively." Nope! Second best penalty killer in the league and his "cushy" time with good line mates and tons of powerplay time. Couldn't be more wrong.
If the Penguins don't want to pay the right price for Kesler that's fine, there are 29 other teams that he can be traded to.
-
Maybe there's a trade coming...
-
If we got Lecavalier, a 1st round pick and a prospect for Alex Edler that's a very good deal
-
I'd like to add that although Johansen has the better underlying numbers, Ryan Kesler provides veteran leadership that's been lacking in Columbus. They've got some great prospects and bringing in a guy like Kesler will make them more competitive in their division, more popular in their state and set a good tone in the lockeroom. Horton, Kesler, Umberger, Dubinsky is a really underrated core to be going into the playoffs and I think they make the Jackets a huge darkhorse.
-
That's a really bunk move on Kesler's part if that's true, if he was really going around telling his teammates on Team USA that he wanted out of Vancouver.
If we can get Ryan Johansen out of Columbus for Kesler, which is a possibility that Bob McKenzie posed, than I think everyone in Vancouver should be very happy.
MG said this summer that the time hadn't come to dismantle the core of the team. Well that time has come and it means that Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa, Edler and Luongo if we can all need to be dealt for younger, lesser, developing players and draft picks. We'll be making our next cup run when the time is right, but the time isn't for this season and probably the season after that it's probably 3 or 4 maybe 5 years down the road.
-
We really should trade Kesler if it looks like we'll be getting a good return. At this point, he's the perfect trade candidate. Edler should definitely also be a candidate for a move.
The return we could get from Detroit, Philadelphia and Ottawa would absolutely make this worthwhile.
This team looks fatigued and needs to move a lot of bodies out because right now we're not going to win a damn thing.

I think we should trade a 7th round pick to the Trailer Park Boys for Ricky and Julian. Ricky's got some good toughness from jail and protecting all the dope that he grows, meanwhile Julian can come in and show Torts some smart ideas for the powerplay. I think Ricky's experiences with being incarcerated and what not, I think that'll really bust the country club atmosphere that the Canucks have. The 7th round pick that they're getting down there is really for Bubbles, we feel like it would be good for bubbles to either use the pick to select a kid that can take care of his cats when he starts getting older or he could sell that pick to an NHL team and use the money for a mail order bride.
Make it happen MG!!!
(I'm not being serious I'm just poking fun at in the trade that was made today, which was basically a bandaid solution to a long-term problem. We're banking big time on big performances at the olympics to drive up trade value and it's a big risk IMO)

If we're picking top 5, Vilardi's our guy.
if we pick between 6 and 11, then Pettersson's our guy.
We need a first line centre and both these guys are skilled enough for the job. Pettersson has more talent IMO, but Vilardi is more NHL ready. One those two should fill in as our 2C behind Horvat once the Sedins retire after next season.
