Tre Mac
http://www.thescore.com/mma/articles/2966368-former-ufc-champion-georges-st-pierre-faces-knee-surgery-after-training-injury TORONTO - Georges St-Pierre's road back to the Octagon is suddenly a lot bumpier. The former UFC welterweight champion, currently on hiatus from mixed martial arts but still training with an eye to a future return, revealed Thursday that he requires knee surgery. "Tore my left ACL in training. Surgery in a few days," St-Pierre said via Twitter. "Rehab, pain, hard work, no shortcuts - I'll soon be back at 100%. Thanks for the support." The Montreal mixed martial artist confirmed in a text to The Canadian Press that it is not the same knee that required reconstructive surgery in December 2011. "I'm OK," he said. St-Pierre vacated his title in December saying he needed time away from the sport. But he kept training. The 32-year-old fighter has said he plans to return to MMA but has not provided a timeline. GSP has had his share of injuries. In the fall of 2011, he sustained a minor left knee problem and pulled hamstring. He believes that led to overcompensating with his right leg when he returned to training. An attempted takedown during a wrestling drill led to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a small tear to his internal miniscus. That operation was done by Neal ElAttrache, the surgeon who looked after NFL star Tom Brady's knee in 2009. "My knee feels like it never happened ... It's very strong,'' St-Pierre said later. The Canadian returned in November 2012 to win a decision over Carlos (The Natural Born Killer) Condit at UFC 154, the then-champion's first fight in some 18 months. St-Pierre (25-2) went on to beat Nick Diaz and Johny (Bigg Rigg) Hendricks, in a controversial split decision at UFC 167 last November, before opting to step away from the sport. He cited personal issues, without detailing them. Hendricks won the vacant 170-pound title at UFC 171 earlier this month with a unanimous decision over (Ruthless) Robbie Lawler. St-Pierre had to delay his first scheduled title defence back in 2007 due to sprained posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Surgery was not required then. And a 2006 fight was called off due to a groin problem. He also had a layoff in 2009 after tearing his adductor muscle in three places in a UFC 100 win over Thiago Alves. Neversummer
Why didn't Glover tried the elbow to the head when they were locked so many times ... is it really harder than it looks to snap that elbow to the head when fighters are grabbing each other? Del Rio
Glover wasn't crap. Bones is just that good. Glover was imo, he had a few chances where he tagged Jones and could have went in swinging to end it or cause damage. Other than that was on the defense entire fight and Jones just picked him off and never stopped. Gustavsson vs. Jones rematch most likely to happen now
Captain Aerosex
Glover was imo, he had a few chances where he tagged Jones and could have went in swinging to end it or cause damage. Other than that was on the defense entire fight and Jones just picked him off and never stopped. Gustavsson vs. Jones rematch most likely to happen now He was on the defence because Jones put him there. He said it himself; he recognized Glover was winding up for bombs and he made it a tight-space fight. Everybody thinks Jones is a range fighter because of his ridiculous reach, but his Greco-Roman skills and sheer size advantage make him a monster in the clinch. And his elbows are the most dangerous thing being thrown in that little amount of space. Also, Glover never really tagged him. He got him with a few good shots, especially one in Round 2, but nothing that staggered Bones. If he were to tag him and then go for a big bomb, he'd have to step in to close the gap, and that's how Bones puts people on their ass, which isn't a good place to be. Glover's corner sure didn't have any answers. Teixeira's a solid fighter, tough as nails, and he fought hard til the end. But Jones was just too good. Teixeira didn't fight a bad fight, he played to his strengths and just got beat at his own game by a phenom. Captain Aerosex
Lawler's still got the monstrous power and the fury, but he just keeps looking smarter and more polished each fight…dude's scary when he combines his natural abilities with great technique. Amazing striking. He's going to be right back fighting for the title. Half heartbreaking to see Hendo get dominated like that, half amazing to see the sheer power of DC at 205. Tossed Hendo around like a plaything. The UFC is really trying to sell Barao…he's beyond amazing, but not the 'pinnacle' of MMA. He doesn't have the roundedness of Aldo or GSP…he has flaws to be exploited. Doubt TJ has much of a chance though, Barao's a freaking monster. EDIT: SHUT ME UP, UPSET OF THE DECADE. Absolutely brilliant fight!!! I don't think I've seen an upset like that in my life. Edited May 25, 2014 by Captain Aerosex
Raoul Duke
Dillishaw with one of the most shocking performances ever. He looked so good in every aspect of the game. Cruz with power really. Pretty sure Joe Rogan came like five times during that fight.... Saw the Hendo/DC outcome a mile away, not that it was shocking at all. DC is just on another level. Gonna be a great eventual fight with him and Jones, if Gus doesn't beat Jones first. Robbie Lawler is such a feel-good story. This guy seemed like his career was close to over or nearing it's end and now look at him. Look at the WW division now too! Such parity now that GSP is out and the fights are actually EXCITING! IMO, the most exciting thing that could happen in the WW division (maybe after a couple of title fights) would be GSP coming back as a challenger with nothing to lose. The rebirth of Rush would be amazing. Also...Dillashaw fight only reinforces my belief that Cruz would've defeated Barao. People forget how special Dominick was because he's been out so long. DollarAndADream
What a sick fight by Dillishaw. The kid was sick during TUF and it's nice seeing him with the belt. I want to see another TJ-Dodson fight. Cormier-Hendo wasn't too surprising. A lot of people thought it would end quickly though, but Hendo has a ton of heart. Captain Aerosex
Love him or hate him, got to admit that Conor McGregor's got talent. Saw this video of him shadowboxing…the fluidity and smoothness of his movement and transitions is incredible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_qFzz730No Not the music choice you'd expect from a professional ass-kicking Irishman.
