Blackberry Bold 9900 was released today and im wondering if i should get bold 9790 or 9900? What do you guys think?

Go to a store and try both out. Bold 9900 is like the bold 9000 so it has a great keyboard with a touchscreen. I didn't like the down-sized bolds (9700, 9780) as the keyboards were mushy and not very satisfying. If I had to choose between the two I would pick the 9900. 9900 is also pretty fast as well. But yeah go to a store and try them out. :)

Alright, I have a new Torch, but whenever I am talking, I am regularly hitting buttons on the touchscreen. It is distraction hearing a bunch of beeps and bloops while I am trying to carry out a conversation. How do I finagle it to disable the touch screen while I am in a call?

Also, the screen lock is terribly sensitive so while it is in my pocket, I am constantly inadvertently pocket texting and dialing... what is a lock on it?

Get a case for your pocket and there are some apps that lock your phone when you call. Can't name them cause I use my phone for calls like 3-4 times a month probably.

Yeah, I usually just hold it up to my face to pretend I'm talking to someone whenever there is an awkward moment around other people.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, I'm going to the States for a few days, and I need internet access to check my waitlist spot for school. I was just wondering if anybody knows whether I would be charged for data roaming if "mobile network" is turned OFF, but wi-fi (hotel provided) is ON. My provider is Telus, if that helps.

If you're only using Wi-Fi (with all network connections turned off), you should be fine. When I was in Vegas, I turned off everything but my Wi-Fi and wasn't charged any extra fees.

So I have had a curve 8520 for almost 2 years now, I think come december I can get an upgrade(I know I can phone rogers and threaten to leave and they will give me one sooner but I'm in no hurry.)

The things I love about my berry, bbm; things I don't is the internet and crappy twitter and facebook apps. It annoys me to be online and see requesting..requesting..requesting..loading..loading and by the time the page loads I forgot what I was looking up. Then fb and twitter apps never seem to load pictures without failing, the tsn app crashes my phone. I know the curve is the cheapest berry and the worst performing, but needless to say I'm looking forward to a new phone, which brings me to my question.

Which phone should I get?

The bold 9900? Does anyone have this yet? Is it not 4G, and does OS7 make it so u can surf online with more ease? I like bb and if I don't have to give up my bbm I would like that too.

Droid Phone, prob Galaxy S2; I know technology wise its the best phone available. I would miss bbm, I heard it might be released for androids but I could live without it. Touchscreen I could get used to altho I like a keypad. I am worried about viruses tho seeing how its open base code. I can be a retard and maybe bored one day and decide to go surf some porn sites,or download something stupid, by berry seems to be unaffected when I do this but is a droid more at risk? After I do this one too many times will it become slow and useless much like my laptop now is?

Iphone 5; I don't like apple as a company, I mean even their is stupid and annoys me. I hate how they refuse to support flash, cuz ya no one ever uses that...but seems a lot of people are going that way. I'm not a sheep but it would be annoying if they released something exlusive like bbm and being the only one who didn't have it. Also it seems like the middle point between berry and droid, bit safer thean droid but not as fast, but faster than berrys and more apps but not as secure.

Or should I wait, is there something new and big in the pipelines?

So can anyone help me decide? I feel like BB is like an ex girlfriend and I'll just fall back to it because I'm the most familiar with it, and don't want to lose bbm. Thanks for help, sorry for writing an essay.

I had a Bell salesman try to convince me that because the Android platform is Linux based, it's actually more secure than Blackberry. My counter to that was it's still open source. Having read an article, ironically enough, about why/why not Windows Phone will surpass Android. One of the points that was raised was security. It pointed that RIM is virtually impenetrable while Android is subject to various attacks.

I also read an article in the Metro a while back, that stated Android is the next target for hackers. Whether they've actually successfully gotten into a phone is not known, the mere fact that they're trying is enough to keep me away.

It sounds like you and I are of the same mindset. My advice, go with the 9900 or with one of the new Torches. All 3 are 4G, so it's just a matter of how big a touchscreen you want.

Because Android phones are not exclusively made by Google, there is always something new coming. Apple and Blackberry are a bit more predictable because of the number of manufacturers they use, that being themselves.

Thanks, that's what I first thought too when I heard about androids. Open source means anyone can write something even hackers. The bold touch was my first choice, I've just been frustrated with the internet on it, but if that's finally fixed then makes my decision easy.

That has nothing to do with anything. There are plenty of extremely secure open-source applications and operating systems.

However, Android isn't as secure as BlackBerry, but whatever.
