I read yesterday that Chris Higgins is suffering from using 'power draining antibiotics' (via the Province).

Explains his play lately, but maybe AV should think about giving him slightly more sheltered minutes while he is suffering? Maybe put him on a line with Lapierre & conserve some energy/feast on other 4th lines + 2nd PP time?

Raymond - Kesler - Booth

Malhotra - Hodgson - Hansen

Higgins - Lapierre - Weise

Dunno, just a thought.

More on Salo:

Head coach Alain Vigneault confirmed the obvious following practice, ruling out Salo for the San Jose game on Saturday, but interestingly wouldn't rule out him playing on Tuesday against Edmonton, the final game before the Canucks' seven-day NHL All-Star break.

“We don't have a definite day for his return, but everything is looking real good,” said Vigneault. “He's skated three straight days, he's worked out hard off the ice. Today he took full practice and contact, so it's looking promising. We're going to continue to follow the protocol and see where it is the next couple of days.”

Wouldn't it be prudent to keep Salo out for Oilers game, just to give him that extra week?

“That is one way to look at it,” said Vigneault. “But the other way would be to give him three more days until the Tuesday game. If he feels that he's 100 per cent, getting a game under his belt so mentally he feels he's overcome the concussion and he can go on the break and he's back and he can contribute. I don't think we're at either stage. He's had three real good days and we'll see how he comes in tomorrow.”

Hadn't posted in a bit, but wanted to clarify around Higgins status. Apparently it's the antibiotics he was taking for the staph infection that weakened his immune system, which is why he got the flu so easily. They're trying a different antibiotic, but he'll still have to recoup from the flu and build up his immune system again. No exact timeframe though.

AV: Higgins had a reaction to medication he was taking while facing staph infection. He is feeling better.

Well, the #hankle didn't stop Henrik from playing well tonight, but Ballard sat out with either back spasms or an issue with his neck, depends on what you heard last. Word before the game was back spasms but Dan Murphy just tweeted this tidbit:

AV says Ballard has been having neck issues for awhile and needs to have it further looked at. Unlikely to play in Calgary.

With Higgins, I don't think there's been any updates. It's mostly that they're waiting on him to say he feels ok since it's not about the injury or the staph infection anymore, although they are being careful to make sure that's cleared up as well.

BTW, I can't take credit for hankle, that was from the @canucksgame twitter in the previous game.
