Team holes to fill at deadline...

I think we could use someone to replace Manny; someone who is left-handed and can win faceoffs. Otherwise Henrik becomes our only left-side option.

A right-handed depth defenseman would be nice to have around as well.

Maybe more grit? If management decides they want a bigger 3rd line center for the playoff than Schroeder, they could go that route.

right now i dunno , have to wait almost until the deadline before you can really pinpoint the canucks problems

we got a pretty good group that can kill penaltys but yeah , another guy with a manny malholtra resume would be cool , thats hard to come by but hey , so its an allstar goalie :bigblush:

aslong as the defense tightens up and players up and down the line up keep scoring we should be pretty good , gillis will pull something off tho , he always does

I'm thinkin' we definitely need a goal tender. Lu's proven he's no good in the playoffs and Schnieds has let in a few Mcschofties so far this season. Maybe trade Kesler and Booth for a tender like Carey Price?

We'd have the best 1a, 1b, 1c, goal tending trifecta in the league. Each goalie can play a third of the season to ensure they stay fresh for the playoff's.

The team is not perfect, but it doesn't have holes. There are some spots that could be improved upon, but nothing is altogether missing.

First, the second line needs time to gel upon Booth's return. If they play to their potential, the top-9 is set. Otherwise, secondary scoring would be an issue, and a top-6 playmaker would be a nice acquisition.

A replacement for Manny would be nice, but that is a very specific need which may not be possible to address. It would be a defensively responsible, left-handed face-off specialist who can thrive with a regular shift in a bottom-6 role.

The defense is a little goofy with only two natural right-side defensemen on the roster. But each defenseman is valuable, and addressing the need for another right-handed defensemen would likely mean displacing one of the left-handed defensemen, which would only make sense as part of a big trade, which I don't see happening. Perhaps a right-handed depth defenseman would be nice, provided he is an upgrade on Alberts et al.

What pieces this team needs at the deadline will come down to the performance of David Booth and Jordan Schroeder. If Booth scores at a healthy pace and Schroeder continues to show he can be counted on as the 3rd line centre, I honestly don't think the team needs anything. If those two don't perform up to snuff between now and the deadline, then I'd say we need a top 6 winger and a big, two way 3rd line centre.

Goaltending is obviously fine and the defense, I think, is as good as it's ever going to be. Nothing needed on the back end.

I'll revise my post: I actually think the team could use a two way bottom 6 centre with size, regardless of Schroeder's performance. I have a feeling when the intensity notches up in the playoffs Schroeder might be converted to wing. Who knows?, maybe he becomes a fast scoring winger for the Kesler line.

Sorry guys, one more thought.

One player I really want for this team is Vinny Prospal. Nobody ever talks about this guy but he's 38 years old and still a dependable scorer. He had 18 goals and 55 points and played all 82 games last year on a terrible Blue Jackets team. He's not necessarily known as a playoff guy but he's still a very skilled player who could play a depth role for the Canucks while also being equally as good an option for a top 6 scoring role.

Schroeder has a 42.5 % average in the circle, plumbing the bottom face off % players in the entire league.

With Manny having been let go mgmt. should have some plan in place to replace the hole he leaves.

Jordan in the playoff circle come playoffs has to be improved for him to retain a 3C position.

I would say:

1. Upgrade on D (get a superstar shut down D-man who can put in points)

2. Upgrade a 4th line man (get a huge banger, does well on the faceoffs, and can score points)

4. Upgrade a 2nd line man (ie. Booth, Higgins or Kassian - to a superstar).

Pretty happy with the rest of the lineup. The only reason I mention the last point as a #4, is it's much less important than the first two, which would be a good addition. But even with no changes, we're looking pretty good. I just wish the D would get it together - they need a superstar-niedermayer type back there to lead the D-corps stability and invincibility (don't even really need his points, but that would be good).

1) Good 3rd line winger (think the Brouwer, Paille type)

2) Depth center

I think that's it. Or if we can get Torres back for a depth player and a mid-late pick (4th-7th) we'd be set

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Booth - Kesler - Kassian

Higgins - Schroeder - Raymond

Torres - Lapierre - Hansen
