[Discussion] Roberto Luongo Trade Thread 6.0

Which GMs? Keep in mind that the hardliners in the CBA negotiations included contradictory jokes like the Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames. Look at what Philadelphia or the NYI have done. MG is actually very moderate - the one long term deal he cut was Luongo, and that contract is both back diving and a cap bargain - the issue is term, and the new CBA (cap drop) couldn't really be anticipated at the time.

Duh... what... I did say trades... Booth and Ballard trades were just salary cap dumps by Florida...and by the looks of it...they were right... Higgins another Florida trade....does MG know there are other teams to trade with.... why is Luongo only linked to Florida... come MG...step it up

Yup, Detroit and Chicago were the first teams to offer these types of contracts. We were next, then New Jersey and a whole bunch of other teams. Everyone is responsible for their own contracts, sure, but if they don't want to trade for a player with one, they can't look for much help if they need to move their player with the same back diving deal.

Vancouver - While Roberto Luongo's coach confirmed his goalie wants out of Vancouver, the GM of a team many thought he might wind up on has suggested he doesn't want him. Of course whether the Tampa Bay Lightning's Steve Yzerman means it is another thing.

Speaking on the Quebec TV show 'The Match', Canucks coach Alain Vigneault, who signed a two-year contract extension this week and is now under contract for the next three, confirmed Luongo wants out. "This is what he wants now," Vigneault said about Luongo's request. "And we will act in the best interest of our organization, while watching what is best for Roberto." After Vancouver was eliminated from the playoffs by the L.A. Kings in the first round, Luongo, 33, made it clear he'd waive his no-trade clause and take his long (10 years remaining) and expensive ($43 million remaining) contract and go. Cory Schneider, 26, had a breakout season and Bobby Lou could see the writing on the dressing-room wall. But Canucks GM Mike Gillis has not said he'll move Luongo and recently suggested there was even a chance he'd keep both goalies for next season.

In terms of Tampas interest, dont go by this, its from May, when they thought some young goalie would be their savior.

truly an archive, and beaten to death in version 1.0-5.0

what you're missing is the actual quote, which began, in the french, pre-translated version with "mais si"

which means "but if"

If you put that in context, you'll see that it wasn't anything resembling a 'confimation' of a trade request -

"but if this is what he wants now..."
